  1. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 24 May

    Leach c Gay b Raine 30 (Durham 277 v Somerset 102-5)

    Jack Leach goes.

A case of Ben Raine losing a few battles but winning the war with Leach.

After two tickles down to deep third of successive deliveries, Leach tries to turn Raine a deeper shade of purple with another lash outside off stump.

Ironically, it's the best shot of the three but he's drilled it to Emilio Gay at gully who's taken a top catch away to his right.

    That was travelling.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 24 May

    McManus c Bracey b Taylor 43 (Northamptonshire 349-7 v Gloucestershire)

Left-armer Matt Taylor produced a beauty from round the wicket, drawing Lewis McManus forward before moving it away a touch.

It's just enough to take the edge and give a regulation catch behind to James Bracey.

    Simple as.

  3. Postpublished at 39.4 overs

    Surrey 119-3 v Surrey 217

That may just be the best stroke of the match so far.

Sam Curran drives Kasun Rajitha to extra cover for four - David Gower in his pomp couldn't have timed it any better than that.

  4. Postpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 24 May

    Yorks 31-3 v Notts 228

On the nightwatch he may be, but Jack White has crunched Mo Abbas off the back foot through the covers for four.

Now Dawid Malan has timed a perfect on drive off Dillon Pennington to move to eight and creamed another through the covers to get into double figures.

With a relatively small target to aim at Yorkshire will be keenly aware they can quickly load pressure back on to Notts with a bit of quick scoring.

    Could be entertaining stuff.

  5. 50 runs

for Wayne Madsenpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 24 May

    Derbys 382-2 v Kent

You can't give Wayne Madsen any width on this pitch.

He has already square cut Nathan Gilchrist and Jake Ball for fours and now reaches a 70-ball 50 with a single to backward square off the latter.

It's the evergreen skipper's fourth half-century of the season, to go with a hundred against Gloucestershire in the opening match of the campaign.

  6. Postpublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 24 May

    Durham 277 v Somerset 84-4

We've seen how obdurate a nightwatchman Jack Leach can be (and by extension for a fielding side, very irritating) and he's doing his best to pump Durham's blood pressure up.

He's just edged James Minto just past third slip for four before popping him over the corden with a much better stroke the next ball for four more.

He then takes three off the next one. 11 off three.

All part of the education for 17-year-old Minto...

  7. Third batting point for Glamorganpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 24 May

    Glamorgan 352-7 v Middlesex

It's not going Middlesex's way so far this morning.

Toby Roland-Jones found the edge of Andy Gorvin's bat and the ball flew past gully for four.

In his next over, TRJ is out of luck again as another Gorvin nick just eludes the diving second slip and brings him another boundary, as well as pushing the total beyond 350.

  8. 'Warwickshire needed that'published at 11:19 British Summer Time 24 May

    Worcestershire 64-1 v Warwickshire 227

    Frank Watson
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

A good innings from Jake Libby but Warwickshire needed that.

It's a tricky situation for new batter Henry Nicholls to come into against a top-class bowler in Chris Woakes.

  9. Postpublished at 37.1 overs

    Surrey 106-3 v Essex 217

    Glorious.

Shane Snater overpitches and Dom Sibley drives straight past the stumps and away for four.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 24 May

    Wharton c Patterson-White b Pennington 7 (Yorks15-3 v Notts 228)

Notts have a wicket early.. and it is not the nightwatchman either.

It has looked very tricky out there this morning in perfect bowling conditions and James Wharton has edged an absolute beaut from Dillon Pennington to first slip.

The Yorkshire batter throws an accusing look at the strip in front of him but when he watches that again he will concede it was more bowler skiil than misbehaving pitch that has got him out.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 24 May

    Libby lbw b Woakes 45 (Worcestershire 64-1 v Warwickshire 227)

Chris Woakes back in among it!

Jake Libby is struck in front of middle and leg after Woakes puts it on that perfect length and it looks like it's held its line too rather than threaten to slide down.

Hit just above the knee roll and it's not going over.

An excellent effort from Libby is over.

  12. Division Two updatepublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 24 May

Caleb Jewell is still batting at Derby - the Aussie is now on 158 not out for the home side, who are 365-2 in the 99th over at Kent.

Glamorgan are edging towards a third batting point against Middlesex in Cardiff - they are now 342-7, with Chris Cooke 36 not out.

No joy yet for Lancashire's bowlers against Leicestershire, who have advanced to 72-2, with Rehan Ahmed and Lewis Hill still together.

  13. Postpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 24 May

    Notts 228 v Yorks 15-2

Yorkshire see off the first over from Mo Abbas and Dillon Pennington's completes his first from the other end, four slips in place and the bat beaten a couple of times.

It's overcast and sweater weather at Headingley. There are a few coats on in the stands and hands wrapped around coffee cups and overall it feels like a good morning to be bowling not batting.

  14. Postpublished at 35 overs

    Surrey 101-3 v Essex 217

Dom Sibley tucks Jamie Porter for two to mid-wicket as Surrey reach three figures.

Sam Curran sends for a new rubber for his bat handle, but it only takes a few seconds to put on.

Seems to be a much easier process than in yesteryear when talcum powder and a lot of swearing were involved - or maybe we're recalling some other activity......

  15. Postpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 24 May

    Worcestershire 64-0 v Warwickshire 227

Worcestershire will reset this morning, mentally telling themselves it's 0-0.

Conditions are very different to yesterday at New Road - a lot more cloud cover which will put a different hue on the challenge posed by the Bears attack.

But Jake Libby has added six runs - four from a nicely controlled check drive - to give the Pears a solid early start.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 24 May

    Rew lbw b Raine 8 (Durham 277 v Somerset 73-4)

    Nightmare start for Somerset.

James Rew is back to one just short of a length from Ben Raine but he's missed it.

He's hit in front of off stump, but the natural angle from round the wicket from Raine to the left hander has Rew done for.

  17. Postpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 24 May

    Durham 277 v Somerset 69-3

First over safely seen off by Somerset nightwatchman Jack Leach.

    Although not without a scare.

He very nearly chops on to Ben Raine's fifth ball of the day. Thick inside edge that shot just over the top and down to fine leg for four.

    Close.

Obviously Durham will want to see the back of Leach asap. Nearly did it there.

  18. Postpublished at 33.4 overs

    Surrey 98-3 v Essex 217

First boundary of the day as Dom Sibley nudges Shane Snater down to third man. Risk free shot - all along the ground. He is 28 not out.

  19. Postpublished at 33 overs

    Surrey 94-3 v Essex 217

It's overcast at The Oval as Dom Sibley and Sam Curran trudge out to resume Surrey's first innings.

This may be a day when Sibley's adhesive qualities are needed by the reigning champions - but Essex are going to have to bowl well to get themselves back into this game.

Shaner Snater will bowl the first over of the day.

  20. Postpublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 24 May

OK. Scenes having been set for the majority of our nine Championship games, it is time for some actual action.
