Why does Woakes open the bowling when Wood and Atkinson are in the team? Wouldn't they be better to use first up - ball nice and hard and fast and Woakes to then take advantage of the ball's greater capacity to swing once the veneer is off?

Trimmer from Woakes, nipping past the outside edge. He's got some very distinguished flecks of grey these days, Woakes. Like George Clooney.

Wondering how everyone’s vegetable growing is going this year? Seems to have been a poor year. My cricket ball squash haven’t got going at all.

What on earth is going on? Gus Atkinson bowling, Louis hit on the thigh pad and sets off. There's never a single, so Louis has to turn back. If Jamie Smith's throw had hit, Louis would have been toast.

I like Mikyle Louis but that's a part he could add to his game. He's very solid on the front and back foot in defence but that's a part of his game he can work on. Keep the scoreboard ticking over. Get busy.

Swing for Woakes, away from the right-handed Mikyle Louis, who has to be careful of the one that comes back. Pace just below 80mph. Get loose, Wizard.

Chris Woakes bowls so well in English conditions. He get's everyone thinking 'it's swinging away, it's swinging away' - and then he gets one to run back into the pads. That is tricky.

If you don't bat on this, you're going against what Test cricket is all about. You have to back your side to get runs.

The anthems have been sung. Gus Akinson and Ben Duckett have had a nice cuddle. Duckett's partner Paige gave birth to a baby girl named Margot earlier this week.

Akeem Jordan bowled me out last weekend. Nipped back and hit middle and off. Would have done the same to Root I suspect.

Matthew Potts and Dan Lawrence have bee released from the England squad to play in The Hundred. Potts' Northern Superchargers, led by Andrew Flintoff, are in action tonight.

By the way, on the subject of the Olympics, have you seen the chat about problems with food in the athletes' village? Raw meat, shortages of certain things?

They should shift the Games to Edgbaston. Never any problems with the food there. Magnificent.

All subjects welcome, cricket optional. As a starter, any light on what might be going on in that earlier picture of Zak Crawley and Ben Stokes would be helpful.

West Indies had a bit of a doubt over fast bowler Shamar Joseph after a bout of flu but he is fit enough to play.

That means there's no place for Akeem Jordan, who is in the UK playing in the Birmingham League for West Bromwich Dartmouth Cricket Club.

You suspect the captain of West Bromwich will be on the phone to 29-year-old Jordan to see if he can play in tomorrow's fixture away to Berkswell instead.

According to his play-cricket statistics Jordan's played nine games for them and taken nine wickets at 33.67.

Just to confirm, England are unchanged from the side that won at Trent Bridge, so no place for Matthew Potts or Dillon Pennington yet.

West Indies make one change. Gudakesh Motie was ill in Nottingham but his replacement, Kevin Sinclair, had his arm broken by Mark Wood. Motie is back.
