  1. Aus 232-9published at 39 overs

    Acceleration from Alex Carey!

He strikes Adil Rashid for consecutive fours, driving down the ground and then sweeping behind square, where Olly Stone fails to keep the ball from the ropes.

That's Rashid's ten overs done - he finishes with figures of 2-42.

  2. Aus 223-9published at 38 overs

Carey refuses a second-ball single, as he looks to farm the strike for the remainder of the innings.

He decides to give Hazlewood a go after four deliveries, taking a single off Carse to backward square.

The tail-ender fends off the final two balls of the over.

VoiceoftheMysterons: Does Brydon Carse bagging two tail enders in consecutive balls otherwise excuse him from going for ten an over ?

Rick Harris: Rashid and Potts have bowled beautifully today. Two players who have played far, far too little Test cricket.

  4. Aus 222-9published at 37 overs

Josh Hazlewood is last man out of the hutch for Australia.

He blocks out the remainder of Rashid's over.

The notion of tailenders playing for the batter at the other end seems to have evaporated!

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 36.3 overs

    Zampa c Stone b Rashid 3 (Aus 221-9)

    The leggie gets the leggie!

Rashid returns and removes Adam Zampa, with the Australian simply whipping the ball into the hands of Olly Stone at backward point for the simplest of catches.

  7. Aus 219-8published at 36 overs

Carey and Zampa pick up three singles from the back half of this crucial Carse over.

“You’ve got to be a good bowler to get an England hat-trick,” chirps Steven Finn from the back of the TMS box.

  9. Aus 216-8published at 35.3 overs

The hat-trick ball is fended away by new batter Adam Zampa.

    Length delivery, reasonable defence.

It's amazing how this game can turn around. Carse was having a nightmare, now he's on a hat-trick!

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 35.2 overs

    Starc c Potts b Carse 0 (Aus 216-8)

    On a hat-trick!

Carse removes Mitchell Starc from the next delivery, clipping into mid-wicket and straight to Matty Potts for catches from successive balls.

Looks like a good bowling change! He went to Carse with a bit of trepidation but it's a change of pace. Hardie had probably seen Marsh pummelling it into the Western Terrace, but he got it too high on the bat.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 35.1 overs

    Hardie c Potts b Carse 23 (Aus 216-7)

Back to the full-timers, back in the wickets!

Brydon Carse returns to the attack and claims the wicket of Aaron Hardie with his first ball.

A bit of a snorter from the Durham seamer, catches Australia all-rounder by surprise and he can only spoon the ball to Matty Potts at mid-wicket.

Jack: Not sure about bowling Livingstone and Jacks here - feel we should be going for the kill with the Aussies 6 down.

  15. Aus 216-6published at 35 overs

Australia's post-drinks acceleration continues, with two more fours coming from Livingstone's second over.

Hardie finds the ropes past gully, before Carey strikes through the covers to bring up the fifty partnership.

How long do England persist with the part-time spinners?

  16. Aus 205-6published at 34 overs

A second new bowler as Will Jacks replaces Adil Rashid.

His fourth ball slips down the leg side for five wides, bringing up the Australian 200.

Carey follows that by lifting the following ball through long-on for four.

Ben: Bethell just looks the perfect fit for this England side - proper batter who can bat anywhere 4,5,6 and good left-arm spin option

  18. Aus 194-6published at 33 overs

And now Aaron Hardie repeats the trick.

His reverse sweep goes a little finer, still reaches the boundary.

  19. Aus 187-6published at 32.2 overs

A new bowler after the break as Liam Livingstone enters the attack.

Carey reverse sweeps his second for four through backward point.
