  1. Eng 26-0published at 3.5 overs

Steven Finn is spot on about Hazlewood - he zips two consecutive deliveries past Salt's outside edge, the first was a prod but the second was a frustrated-looking flash.

  2. Eng 26-0published at 3,2 overs

Four more for Phil Salt - short-ish outside off stump and he slashes it past the slips to the triangular sponge thingy at third.

Every Hazlewood delivery looked threatening, but Starc at the other is perhaps searching for wickets too much.

Phil Salt has looked in form from the first over.

  5. Eng 19-0published at 2.4 overs

Starc's radar is 'off' a bit, he goes wide outside leg and off, but then gets Duckett swiping outside off stump with a better delivery.

Then the left-armer spoils it with another wide outside leg - his third of the over.

  6. Eng 17-0published at 2,3 overs

That dropped chance has livened up the crowd from their postprandial slumber, as has Ben Duckett's clip off his pads from Mitchell Starc for four.

  7. dropped catch

Salt dropped by Short on eightpublished at 2 overs

    Eng 11-0

    A life for Salt!

He jabs at one and it's heading towards Mitchell Marsh at first slip, but Matthew Short dives across him and spills it.

It's remarkable that that hasn't hit the edge, it's almost like the ball's morphed as it's passed the edge.

  9. Not outpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 21 September

    Eng 11-0

    Not out!

There's nothing on Ultra Edge, the ball deviating a bit after passing the bat.

  10. Australia reviewpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 21 September

It's cracking the flags in Leeds now, a welcome change from the murk of earlier.

Phil Salt fends at one outside off, and Australia have asked for the review after a tentative appeal was turned down.

  11. Eng 10-0published at 1.2 overs

Josh Hazlewood glides in from the football stand end, and Ben Duckett gets going with a weird slap-shot back past the bowler for two.

    Here's a neat round-up of a superb knock from Australia's keeper-batter.

  13. Eng 8-0published at 0.3 overs

England are up and running in style, Salt leans gently into one on middle and off from Starc, driving him to the cover boundary, then off the next he guides him backwards of point for four more.

  14. Eng 0-0published at 0.1 overs

    Thanks, Mike!

Mitchell Starc sends down the first from over the wicket to Phil Salt. It swings in and scoots under Salt's waft through to Alex Carey.

The players are back out on the field.

England need 271 - an intriguing chase, not tiny, not gigantic.

Here's Tim Oscroft to take you through the start of it.

Dan Worrall has just said on Test Match Special that he'd definitely accept a call-up to the England side next summer.

The 33-year-old, who played three ODIs for Australia in 2016 but moved to play county cricket a number of years ago, qualifies to play for England in time for their summer Test series against India.

He has 52 wickets at 16 in the County Championship this season, spear-heading Surrey's drive to a third successive title.

Earlier this week Australia called up 19-year-old Mahli Beardman into their squad as cover, given the injuries to their quicks.

That comes despite having only played one professional game of cricket at the elite level - a 50-over game for Western Australia last year.

He's just come out to bowl during the interval and it has sent shudders down my spine when I think of Ashes series to come.

    Effortlessly quick.

Janet Hopper: When trying to get the final wicket it seems like England resort to bowling in the hope one of the batters makes a mistake rather than actually bowling to dismiss them. Just leads to a final wicket stand that sees momentum shift.
