Archer has to sacrifice himself there. It was his call but he’s sold Carse down the river just as it looked like the latter could have got England up close to 180.

  2. Eng 144-8published at 17 overs

Adil Rashid is the new batter. Can he and Jofra Archer help give themselves a decent total to bowl at here?

Brydon Carse's 31 off 17 is the highest score from a England batter at No.8 or lower since David Willey's 33 against India in 2022.

Only they can decode what happened there! Carse had looked so impressive but there was uncertainty - oh no, no, no, no,no.

    Huge disappointment for England.

    Carse run out (Jurel/Bishnoi) 31

Deary me. A terrible mix-up out in the middle between Brydon Carse and Jofra Archer.

A bit of "Yes, no, sorry..." from Archer after England look for a second following Carse's neat work into the leg side.

Carse had already set off and is struggling after he turns to make his ground at the non-striker's end. Good work from Dhruv Jurel and Ravi Bishnoi and he is toast.

When 'high risk, high reward' more regularly becomes 'high risk, no reward'.

Anyone think the problem with how Baz is coaching this T20 side is that we're trying to play like it's a Test match...

    J Overton b Varun 5 (Eng 136-7)

Jamie Overton flummoxed by the final delivery of Varun Chakravarthy's spell.

It's the googly and he fails to pick it as the ball skids through and clatters into the stumps.

Back-to-back sixes from Brydon Carse off Varun Chakravarthy, who is spearheading an England lower-order counterattack.

The first is a 78-metre effort walloped back over Varun's head and the fielder at long-on while the second is a one-handed swat to deep square.

England have invested a lot in Jamie Overton as a hard-hitting white-ball finisher. Now might be a good time to repay that investment.

Meanwhile, Bryson Carse is fulfilling that role with some acumen.

Looks like the English men are following the women with mindless cricket, poor shot selection and inability to read the game. What makes it worse, is that it is so predictable.

    Richard, Telford

Maybe England men should just play England women?

  11. Eng 121-6published at 15 overs

Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton find Ravi Bishnoi's variations a little more difficult to pick and have to settle for three singles off the over.

England will beat their score in the last T20 but will it be enough to challenge India?

  12. Eng 118-6published at 14 overs

Brydon Carse picks up a streaky boundary with an edge off Axar Patel later in the over. England will not mind that one bit. Every run is valuable from this point.

England have lost 10 wickets to spin so far in this series - the most they have lost to spin in a T20I series is 14 (twice vs New Zealand, 2023 & 2019). We still have three and a bit games to go...

  14. 6 runs

    Eng 113-6published at 13.2 overs

That will help. Brydon Carse with a hearty swing of the bat, using those long levers of his after skipping down the pitch, and he puts Axar Patel into the stands.

  15. Eng 106-6published at 13 overs

There's still seven overs left here but it feels like a case of what their bowling all-rounders can eke out.

Frustrating to watch the same dismissal again and again - trying to clear the legside boundary, and failing and shoving it right down the fielders throat - none of whom have had to move by the way. Need a partnership here and Jamie Smith to fire!

    Anon

Has someone told this England team the only way to score runs is by hitting a six? Have they forgotten you still get four runs if it reaches the rope on the ground!?

    WICKETpublished at 12.3 overs

Smith c Tilak Varma b Abhishek Sharma 22 (Eng 104-6)

    A touch of overconfidence, perhaps?

Jamie Smith attempts to go inside out Abhishek Sharma for a second time in the over but this time he cannot generate enough power in the shot.

Perhaps a subtle change of pace from Abhishek and Tilak Varma snaffles the catch with ease down at long-off.

  18. 6 runs

    Eng 104-5published at 12.2 overs

Jamie Smith looks a million dollars here.

He pumps Abhishek Sharma downtown for six. Next ball he squirts a square drive through point for four.

  19. Eng 94-5published at 12 overs

A bit of fielding from Arshdeep Singh with his boot down on the boundary at international level to prevent a four from the last ball of Axar Patel's over. Something club and village cricketers around the globe, particularly those of a certain vintage, can associate with.

    He sure is, Kieran...

Liam Livingstone attempts to play yet another slog down to deep square to Axar Patel. He is unable to generate enough power as the ball hurries on to the bat and it does not come out of the middle.

Substitute fielder Harshit Rana claims the catch. India well on top here.
