  1. Somerset need one wicket to winpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time

    Somerset 670-7d v Worcs 154 & 477-9

Archie Vaughan around the wicket to Matthew Waite who has 81 and looks comfortable out there.

He runs back for two from the fifth ball. He must trust Tom Hinley.

Waite has now faced 301 balls and been in the middle for almost six-and-a-half hours.

Fourteen minutes to survive or force a win depending on who you support.

  2. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 51.5 overs

    Lancs 214-5 - target 309

Luke Wells drives Zafar Gohar to the short boundary for four runs, only the second boundary of his innings.

A single follows and George Balderson is then down the track and hoisting the spinner over mid-on for six.

Hello - maybe game is on again.

  3. Somerset need one wicket to winpublished at 17:43 British Summer Time

    Somerset 670-7d v Worcs 154 & 475-9

A muted celebration as the ball pops up off Matthew Waite's thigh guard and is caught at leg slip. Fooling no-one.

Archie Vaughan pins Waite down to a maiden and Tom Hinley will have to face a new over from Jack Leach.

More enthusiasm from the extended slip cordon as Hinley pads the ball away.

Leach is on for a five-wicket haul. Not that he'll care about that right now. Well bowled, well defended.

  5. 'Magnificent innings'published at 17:38 British Summer Time

Somerset need one wicket to beat Worcs

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

"It's been a magnificent defensive innings from Matthew Waite.

"Somerset's work still is not yet done."

  6. Somerset need one wicket to winpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time

    Somerset 670-7d v Worcs 154 & 475-9

Jack Leach gets a nice bit of turn from over the wicket to Tom Hinley, but the left-hander gets the face of his bat on it.

Hinley pads up and there's a big cry, but no dice. He sees out another big maiden.

    Twenty-three minutes remain.

  7. 200 runs

up for Lancashirepublished at 50 overs

    Lancs 200-5 - target 309

Frustrating for Zafar Gohar as he finds a bit of turn and the ball runs away down the leg-side for four byes.

Lancashire don't seem in a chasing mood at the moment - there are no big shots being attempted, but appearances can be deceptive.

Gohar has 3-46 for 17 overs in what has been an excellent Championship debut for Middlesex.

There are 17 overs to go.

  8. ESSEX DRAW WITH SURREYpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time
    Breaking

    Essex 582-6d v Surrey 365 & 219-6

    That's it - Surrey survive.

Dom Sibley and Ben Foakes did the heavy lifting for the champions as they batted through the afternoon session.

Essex chipped away in the evening to keep their hopes alive but ultimately both sides have been beaten by the pitch.

You can expect these two to be right up there challenging this season.

  9. Somerset need one wicket to winpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time

    Somerset 670-7d v Worcs 154 & 475-9

Matthew Waite turns down a run off the second ball of Archie Vaughan's 45th over.

Five dots. Can he get himself down the other end? He clips it into the legside but straight to the fielder. No run.

Worcestershire are so, so close to pulling off a special escape.

But they like dramatic finishes down at Taunton.

  10. Postpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time

    Essex 582-6d v Surrey 365 & 219-6

Surrey move into the lead for the first time in the game as Jordan Clark edges one away for two runs.

  11. Somerset need one wicket to winpublished at 17:32 British Summer Time

    Somerset 670-7d v Worcs 154 & 476-9

A backward push off Jack Leach brings Matthew Waite four more, but Somerset won't care about that.

Waite goes to 80 and he'll want a single from the last couple of balls to get back on strike.

And with good running he gets it off the penultimate ball, pushing down the ground and scampering through.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time

    Lawrence c Cox b Critchley 18 (Essex 582-6d v Surrey 365 & 215-6)

Jordan Cox pouches a neat slip catch to remove Dan Lawrence off the bowling of Matt Critchley.

    The celebrations are muted.

In walks Jordan Clark who may have been thinking about packing away his kit.

  13. Postpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time

    Lancs 192-5 - target 309

A boundary for George Balderson in the latest Zafar Gohar.

Partner Luke Wells decides he needs some fresh batting gloves.

Lancashire require 117 off 19 overs - 6.15 per over.

  14. Somerset need one wicket to winpublished at 17:29 British Summer Time

    Somerset 670-7d v Worcs 154 & 470-9 - trail by 46

Tom Hinley gets off the mark to his first ball from Jack Leach.

The Somerset then make sure Matthew Waite can't nick a single and the strike for Archie Vaughan's next over.

Good over from Vaughan but Hinley survives. Maiden.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time

    Taylor c Overton b Leach 12 (Somerset 670-7d v Worcs 154 & 463-9 - trail by 47)

    There it is!

Jack Leach finally makes the breakthrough and picks up his 500th first-class wicket.

He gets an outside edge as Tom Taylor pushes forward and it flies through the slips to Craig Overton at gully who takes a fine one-handed catch.

Tom Hinley is last man in.

  16. WARWICKSHIRE DRAW WITH SUSSEXpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time

    Warks 104-2 & 454 v Sussex 528 & 313-7d

Rob Yates, with 65, and Sam Hain, 26, safely see Warwickshire to a draw.

No drama on the final day at Edgbaston.

It went neither here nor there for either side in the morning session. Sussex couldn't make quick enough progress to build on their lead of 200 and Warwickshire couldn't make inroads swift enough to set up an achievable chase.

All in all, both side will probably be happy with a decent haul of points from round one.

Warwickshire's attack was very light through injuries and they were always on the back foot after Sussex's huge first innings.

The visitors should be very satisfied with the better of the game on their return to Division One.

  17. Postpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time

    Somerset 670-7d v Worcs 154 & 469-8 - trail by 47

Matthew Waite picks up one more from his 275th delivery, this time off Archie Vaughan.

Tom Taylor then guides Vaughan through the legside fielders into the vast empty swathes of the Taunton outfield and picks up four.

  18. Postpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time

    Essex 582-6d v Surrey 365 & 213-5

Simon Harmer spins one out of the rough, past Ryan Patel's bat it goes and past Michael Pepper's gloves for four byes.

    Surrey trail by four runs.

I'll say it, I think this is a draw.

  19. Postpublished at 17:21 British Summer Time

    Somerset 670-7d v Worcs 154 & 463-8 - trail by 53

Tom Taylor has four close-in fielders on the offside for company and two on the leg.

I bet all of them are offering the batter a bit of friendly advice.

It must feel like the ground is closing in on him.

But Taylor is rock-solid in defence to Jack Leach. Maiden.

  20. Postpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time

    Somerset 670-7d v Worcs 154 & 463-8 - trail by 53

Can this pair hold their concentration? Matthew Waite has been out there a long, long time.

Coming up to five hours to be precise.

Waite picks up a solitary single from Jack Leach's latest and then sees off six more balls without scoring.

The scoreboard is showing 11 more overs remain, but there will probably be more with two spinners twirling away, probing for mistakes.
