  1. Postpublished at 7 overs

    Notts 23-1 - target 89

A tip and run as Haseeb Hameed scampers through for a quick single off Matthew Potts.

It's another probing over from Potts who induces a play and miss with the final ball. Fortunately for Freddie McCann it misses the edge.

Hameed then turns Ben Raine into the legside and eases through for a more manageable run. McCann moves the target a run closer.

Then, the shot of the innings so far as Hameed brings out a straight drive which thumps into the boundary boards in front of the scaffolding-clad pavilion.

A single takes the captain to 17 and takes the runs required to 66.

    Essex 582-6 dec v Surrey 365 & 181-3

    BBC Essex Sports Editor

This is going to take some doing for Essex now. The Sibley and Foakes partnership has frustrated them and although they’ll get a go with the new ball in a few overs time, it’ll take something very special from the Essex attack to force victory.

    Hurst c Higgins b Gohar 2 (Lancs 119-4 - target 309)

    Zafar GoharImage source, Rex Features

    What a catch!

Matty Hurst tries to cut a ball from Zafar Gohar which is far too close to him and Ryan Higgins somehow clutches the ball in front of his face at first slip.

He saw that so late - mighty impressive reflexes.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9.4 overs

    Shaikh b Carson 2 (Warks 34-2 - target 388)

And now a wicket in the second over after tea too!

Lovely piece of bowling from Jack Carson.

Floated up, draws Hamza Shaikh forward and he's beaten by some sharp turn through the gate to take off stump.

Bears just need to be careful here not to give Sussex a sniff.

  5. Postpublished at 30.5 overs

    Lancs 118-3 - target 309

Excellent timing by Marcus Harris, who plays a sort of checked back-foot drive off TRJ and collects four runs.

The Middlesex skipper strays onto his pads and his flipped away to leg, but there is a man down there to restrict the Australian to a single.

  6. Postpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time

    Somerset 670-7d v Worcs 154 & 426-7 - trail by 90

Craig Overton goes a little too straight and Ben Allison flicks his first ball away into the legside for a boundary.

Allison picks up two more with the next before Overton strings together four dots. The deficit drops to 90.

  7. Postpublished at 5 overs

    Notts 15-1 - target 89

Matthew Potts again proves accurate and is hitting the bat hard with the new ball.

His second over concedes a single to Freddie McCann.

Ben Raine shipped 13 from his first couple of overs but keeps it tidy in his third. McCann plays out a maiden.

    Notts need 74 more.

  8. Play resumes at Chelmsfordpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time

    Essex 582-6d v Surrey 365 & 164-3

Essex have huffed and puffed but can't blow down Surrey's house.

We are into the final knockings and barring something extraordinary we'll be shaking hands in about an hour from now.

Tom Westley is going to get us back under way.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 8.1 overs

    Davies lbw b Seales 1 (Warks 27-1 - target 388)

First ball after tea, Alex Davies gets a complete shooter from Jayden Seales!

Rolled along the ground from a length and pinned him lbw bang in front.

Few more of them quickly and it might get interesting!

  10. Postpublished at 29 overs

    Lancs 110-3 - target 309

Toby Roland-Jones will bowl the first over of the final session at Lord's.

A single by Marcus Harris brings Matty Hurst onto strike.

TRJ ends the over with another booming inswinger like the one that bowled Michael Jones, but somehow Hurst survives. Not sure even he knows how.

  11. Play resumes at Tauntonpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time

    Somerset 670-7d v Worcs 154 & 416-7 - trail by 100

The Somerset players and Pears batters troop out for the final session.

The hosts need three wickets for victory, but it's worth remembering, the last three sessions have yielded just a single wicket.

Craig Overton opens up to Matthew Waite who picks up a single to move to 59.

Ben Allison watches the next three through without having to play.

  12. Postpublished at 3 overs

    Notts 14-1 - target 89

Freddie McCann cuts Ben Raine into the ground and beats Emilio Gay at backward point who beats the ground in frustration.

Gay has not had a happy match at Trent Bridge after picking up a pair.

    They run through for three.

Haseeb Hameed picks up another couple to move into double figures. Notts need 75 more to win.

  13. Flat pitch 'hasn't made for exciting spectacle'published at 15:58 British Summer Time

    Warwickshire 454 & 27-0 v Sussex 528 & 313-7 dec - tea

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

This game is drifting towards a draw after Warwickshire were set a highly improbable 388 in 44 overs

Both teams will feel they have achieved their objectives from this game, with a healthy haul of bonus points and batters and bowlers scoring runs and taking wickets.

On the debit side, the pitch has been very flat, offering precious little encouragement to all bowlers, which hasn’t made for an exciting spectacle to start the new season.

  14. Postpublished at 2 overs

    Notts 9-1 - target 89

Matthew Potts is bang on the money, but Freddie McCann squeezes a single away to get off the mark.

Haseeb Hameed then has a bit of a waft and misses. A few butterflies?

  15. Happy birthday, Rockypublished at 15:56 British Summer Time

    Rocky FlintoffImage source, Rex Features

We mentioned earlier that it is Dennis Amiss' 82nd birthday today.

At the other end of the age scale, Rocky Flintoff is celebrating turning 17.

Bet he wishes he was at Lord's to help Lancashire try and reach this target against Middlesex - but a back problem put paid to his potential involvement in the game.

Hope to see you in action again soon, Rocky.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time

    Slater lbw b Potts (Notts 8-1 - target 89)

Matthew Potts opens from the Radcliffe Road End.

He can provide a bit of pace, too - and he's struck inside two balls!!

Ben Slater made a fine 92 in the first knock but lasts just two balls as Potts, around the wicket, sends one across the left-hander and thuds it into his front pad, just below the knee roll.

    Freddie McCann is in.

  17. Postpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time

    Notts 8-0 - target 89

A second four of the opening over as Haseeb Hameed punches Ben Raine to the short boundary.

Durham must be absolutely reeling after that burst of pace bowling.

  18. Notts begin chase of 89published at 15:49 British Summer Time

    Notts 4-0 - target 89

After that remarkable end to the afternoon session, Nottinghamshire need just 89 runs to open the season with a remarkable win.

Josh Tongue’s four-wicket burst earned him a five-for as Durham lost their last five wickets for just 21 runs.

Skipper Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater are out in the middle. Ben Raine to open the bowling as Durham search for a miracle.

Hameed guides Raine's third ball down to the third man boundary to get the chase up and running.

  19. Tea at Lord'spublished at 15:45 British Summer Time

    Middlesex 260 & 407 v Lancashire 359 & 109-3

Toby Roland-Jones bowls Michael JonesImage source, Rex Features

Two slips and a short leg in for spin bowler Zafar Gohar's final over before tea, but it is safely negotiated by Marcus Harris and Matty Hurst.

Lancashire were looking good on 93-0 after finally bowling out Middlesex for 407, for whom Max Holden made a magnificent 184.

But the loss of Keaton Jennings, Josh Bohannon and Michael Jones in quick succession has perhaps now tilted the game in Middlesex's favour.

Lancashire will have 39 overs after tea to score exactly 200 - that's a rate of 5.13 per over. Middlesex, on the other hand, need seven wickets. Don't go anywhere!

  20. Tea at Tauntonpublished at 160 overs

    Somerset 670-7d v Worcs 154 & 415-7 - trail by 101

And that's tea at Taunton with the game, remarkably, still in the balance with one session to play.

Worcestershire lost their fourth wicket yesterday afternoon and looked dead and buried but just a single wicket has fallen in each of the last three sessions.

Brett D'Oliveira was the solitary batter to go in the afternoon and he was a trifle unlucky to be given lbw for a brilliant 121.

Somerset need three wickets to fall in the final session to seal what would prove a hard-earned win.
