Keep India out there and keep them turning up tomorrow not quite knowing what's going on and get yourself some more runs. There might be a bit of rain which could be in the back of Ben Stokes' mind but keep them going and maybe accelerate a little bit.

The fact is, was Anshul Kamboj the right choice? With due respect, the young boy has done well and tried to do his best but if Shardhul Thakur is going to bowl a certain amount of overs, then they should have given Kuldeep Yadav a chance.

England simply didn't allow India to get back into the Test match this morning. I think India looked toothless sometimes but injuries and whatnot. They just let it drift perhaps and I'm surprised we didn't see more of Washington Sundar. Tricky day for India, they will be tired.

Jonny: Nice to see England being the side doing the grinding into the dirt for once, having been on the receiving end a few too many times!

Probably their best day under Stokes - yes, others have been more exciting, but this was ruthless cricket at its best.

India have a huge mountain to climb but can they fight and make it hard for England in what seems inevitable. What way they play tomorrow is going to determine if the fifth Test will have the same passion or not.

There have been more questions answered. If they had a poor series here, there would be more questions going into Australia. In order to win Australia, the side has to be settled and the bowlers are starting to work a little pattern. The batters are getting settled as well.

For England to be successful in Australia, their characters will be tested and things have happened at the right time. For instance, Liam Dawson looks a good player and things are happening and the pieces are coming together.

Ollie Pope has also been talking to Sky Sports:

On Joe Root not being put up for interview: "He's fine, just cramping up complaining, obviously skipper retired as well. They're both good as gold."

On Root's achievements and what to admire about him: "Just his hunger and his drive, you look at all the batters here and everyone's picked up something from Joe, not necessarily cricket but with how he goes about himself and his training. His hunger for it is awesome. He's an annoyingly good bloke, the way he is with the fans and as a role model for the next generation is awesome. There's a lot to learn from him. He knows the records he's breaking but it's not necessarily the kind of bloke he is, he'll be more happy if we can get this done and dusted."

On the current state of the game: "It's pretty clear there's some turn out there, it's not really what we expect in England on a day three pitch. We're well aware it's going to be tough work. As a batter it's about trying to forget that and push forward and get as many as we can."

On tempo of innings: "It's something we talk about a lot, to try and find opportunities to push a game forward. Me and Joe are a bit different to the likes of Brook and Smith for example, we made a real effort to make as many singles as we can and push the field. It ebbs and flows when new balls come in, for us it's just trying to read it as best as we can."

On his own performance: "I did some technical work in between games and had a look at some footage and thought about where I want to score against these bowlers and on this ground."

On his dismissal: "I was annoyed at how I got out, for me that was a soft dismissal. I'm disappointed with it, but I'll learn from it."

Joe Root must still be irked after hearing how bad the dressing room was under his leadership but now everything seems rosy when he is still the talisman in that side.

It still gets mentioned and he has still gone out to bat and he has gone to another level.

There was that split moment after lunch when they lost two wickets but they settled after the skipper came in. And they are developing into a side where when they get on top, they don't allow the opposition to get back into the game.

England batsman Ollie Pope spoke to BBC Test Match Special about Joe Root:

"Very happy with how today went and I was obviously in a very good position to watch Joe go and break some more records and a really good day for us. It was really good to bat with him and he is pretty chill. Once we are both in and kind of feeling good out there, we can have a laugh and I try to learn as much as I can and talk about the situations and learn off that.

"The best thing about his game is the simplicity of it. He hits some gorgeous shots obviously. He is a joy to watch and when he is playing at his best, everything is at the right place.

"He absolutely loves playing for England and playing Test cricket even for someone who's played as much as him. He still has got a lot he wants to achieve. The hunger he has for scoring runs and helping the team win is amazing and I can't see that ending any time soon.

"Pretty happy with how I played and adapted my game slightly to the conditions but annoyed with the way how it ended. But I felt my game was in good order and for me to kind of feel good out there and put a decent score on the board was pretty pleasing."

On the pitch: "I think the pitch has broken up slightly quicker than we would have anticipated. Obviously it has played well today but over the next day or two it is going to become tough to bat on. For us in the morning it is about putting as many runs as we can. There is going to be a few that is shooting, a little bit of turn as the game goes on as well so hopefully we can get bit of luck when we are bowling and push on a few more runs in the morning. From what I am aware there is no plan to declare as of yet."

India bowling coach Morne Morkel is taking some tough blows in the press conference. Why did they pick Anshul Kamboj and why was Washington Sundar not brought on earlier are among the questions fired his way.

He has also confirmed Jasprit Bumrah rolled his ankle on the dressing room staircase, while Mohammed Siraj hurt his in a pothole.

The highlight of today was Joe Root passing three legends of the game - Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting - in relatively quick succession to move second in the all-time Test top run-scorers.

Here's the moment he passed Ponting to move behind Sachin Tendulkar in first place.

The people who will benefit the most from this way of batting is the bowlers because they have had their feet up all day and tomorrow when the bowlers come out to the middle, they can hit the deck hard and get the most out of it.

All the headlines, rightfully, will be about Joe Root but today was another lesson in that Bazball is maturing especially at the start of play when England knew they had to win that first hour and they did.

England milked it all day and today was the day where it came to fruition how England is a different side and to win the biggest series' you can't play one way.

There will be a few weary bodies hauling themselves into the Indian dressing room right now but they stuck at it. And the day couldn't have gone better for England.

  20. Close of play - Eng 544-7published at 135 overs

    Lead by 185; Stokes 77, Dawson 21

That's the end of day three - England have batted for all of it, building an impressive lead of 186.

Mohammed Siraj returns to take the final over, the 89th of the day, and Liam Dawson and Ben Stokes work him for five singles.

Having resumed this morning on 225-2, England have added 319 runs for the loss of five wickets.

The home side now big favourites to take this Test and the series.
