Joe Root then adds a further two into the covers to end the over.

The game is just meandering on at the minute but England would like to push it on. The field has spread so England might find that a little bit difficult now.

Joe Root smiles after hitting a century at Old Trafford.Image source, Getty Images

Root has to be the calmest batsman in cricket. Doesn't appear to get riled and maintains a humble approach. He's not blinded by ambition to score the most runs which is admirable. It's players like him that makes cricket special!

India have to be kicking themselves with the missed opportunities in the first three Tests. If you go session by session and day by day, India wins.

Washington Sundar didn't bowl until the 69th over. He's bowled 11 overs with 2-30 being his figures. We've had 107 overs in the innings and excluding what Sundar has bowled, the rest of the bowlers have a combined figures of 2-411 in 96 overs.

Washington Sundar replaces Shardul Thakur and he starts with a maiden to Ben Stokes.

The England skipper stretches between balls and at the end of the over - his groin, I think.

What people have to realise is that batting for a long period of time is hard work, physically and mentally. You have to maintain concentration, you have to physically exert yourself so much by running up and down, running the ones and the twos. You've got to have strength in your arms. You have to be fit to get big scores.

Joe Root runs during England v India at Old TraffordImage source, Getty Images

It's pilling up on India now. They have to somehow muster the troops and do something about this. Joe Root looks like he is having the best nets of his life, nothing is at stake and they can't do anything about it.

Root's 'effortless push' down the ground goes for four at long-on

    That straight drive comes off!

Having hit the non-striker's stumps in the previous over at this end, Joe Root fires Shardul Thakur's delivery down the ground and over the ropes.

The ailing Jasprit Bumrah has to retrieve the ball, while that's an over-step too so an extra run is added to the total and that's the hundred partnership.

Thakur does draw an edge from Root with the over's penultimate ball, but it drops well short of wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, and a leg side single from the following delivery brings up England's 450.

Surely we can move on from talk of Bazball now. As a distinguishable style of play it's now dissolved into sensibly adapting to match situations, albeit with a positive attitude, which should be a given in a well managed team.

Jasprit Bumrah will continue for India.

Bumrah’s average speed in that first over after tea was just 80.3mph - his slowest over of the series to date.

Shardul Thakur has the ball at the other end.

He sends down three dot balls to Joe Root, before a leg bye and a couple of singles of bat come in the back half of the over.

Root can consider himself a little unfortunate with the second of those dots - he played a tidy straight drive right onto the non-striker's stumps.
