England need to push on here and not fritter away wickets. A 150-run lead is not enough at all.

  2. How's stat?!published at 17:50 British Summer Time 25 July

    Jem Green
    CricViz data analyst

India spinners are averaging 53.66 in this series. This is the highest average in a series by an Indian spin attack, where they have bowled a minimum of 1,000 deliveries in the last 10 years

  3. Eng 518-6published at 126 overs

    Lead by 160

Spare a thought for wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel - he's taken two catches and two stumpings in this innings and took three catches in the first innings at Lord's... but none of those will be added to his stats because he's on the field as a sub for Rishabh Pant.

Meanwhile England's batters take a couple of singles off Ravindra Jadeja.

Mike: Little doubt that declaring right now would be way better than the decision to declare in the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston.

  5. Eng 516-6published at 125 overs

Anyone hoping Ben Stokes was going to walk back out will be disappointed, it's Chris Woakes walking to the middle.

He knocks Bumrah through point for a single off his third delivery.

The game is never over. India will think now that if they can get England out for another 20-30, and they can get 400 then they will give England 200 to chase which is certainly not easy on this pitch.

Bumrah dismisses Smith for nine after outside edge is caught behind

Jasprit Bumrah back... and he has a wicket with his first ball!

In the corridor and Jamie Smith takes a prod at it, with the edge going through to sub wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, who takes the catch just above the ground.

The umpires hold Smith for a second as they check if the catch was taken cleanly, but it's fine and the England keeper walks off.

  8. Eng 515-5published at 124 overs

Two into the covers for Liam Dawson off Ravindra Jadeja, the only scoring shot of the over.

  9. Eng 513-5published at 123 overs

    Lead by 155

Well-timed from Jamie Smith, pushing Washington Sunder's final delivery through the covers for four.

That's his first boundary of the innings.

  10. Eng 508-5published at 122 overs

Jamie Smith plays Ravindra Jadeja off the back foot for two through point, before the England batters take a single each.

England's lead is now 150, and we have roughly an hour to go in the day.

    Nicely done, Liam Dawson.

He faces four dot balls from Washington Sundar then skips down the pitch and hits the spinner over mid-off.

The ball plugs a bit as it lands near the boundary, but has enough momentum to pass over the ropes.

  13. Eng 500-5published at 120 overs

    Smith 2, Dawson 1

Out walks Liam Dawson for his first Test innings in eight years.

Fielders suddenly surround the bat and up goes Jadeja for an lbw appeal off Dawson's first ball.

There's an inside edge there and Dawson knocks the following delivery into the leg side to bring up England's 500.

Superb knock from Joe Root, he looks a little disappointed as he should be since he was batting so well. A brilliant delivery, bowled slower in the air and because of the slowness, he was dragged out of the crease.

Jadeja dismisses Root by stumping to end 'brilliant' 150 run innings

But will Joe Root now be heading back to the pavilion?

Second ball after drinks, and Ravindra Jadeja has the England number four sprawling outside his crease.

Sub wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel takes off the bails and Root starts heading on his way.

The umpires ask him to stop for a second, but the replay shows the stumping to be fine - not sure what they were checking there.

Root walks off, hobbling a little after treading on the ball post-stumping - the end of a magnificent innings.

I think plenty of England fans, including me, have had their moments of moaning before and during this series. Now is the time to doff our caps to a wonderful team effort and appreciate the privilege of having watched two of England's finest in the middle.
