    And Washington Sundar has another!

This is good, very good, from India's off-spinner. You can see the ball dip away from Harry Brook in the air and, with Brook advancing down the pitch, he's left stranded when the ball beats his outside edge.

    India are back in it.

  2. Eng 349-3published at 80 overs

All eyes on Shubman Gill and the umpires as Joe Root blocks out Ravindra Jadeja's over.

Gill has gone up to Jasprit Bumrah for a chat.

The result seems to be at least one more for Washington Sundar.

The theory goes that the ball drifts more if you put more revolutions onto the ball. Washington Sundar is tall, long-limbed and is giving it quite the rip.

The new ball is now an over away but this is as threatening as India have looked all day. Do they take it?

Shame for Pope. Deserved a hundred like the opening pair. An almost identical dismissal to Crawley (and Jaiswal). We don't want to be chasing too many batting last vs Bumrah and spin.

You can see the drift on the replay. The angle of Washington Sundar's delivery has the ball coming into Ollie Pope but as it whizzes down the ball just starts to drift away from the right-hander.

He beats the outside edge of new batter Harry Brook with the same method too.

It is remarkable that it took so long but it's the drift - the same drift we saw at Lord's - and Ollie Pope is looking to play into the off-side but it is a brilliant catch. And now with England still trailing and the new ball due very soon, this is the moment for India to get back into the Test. Pope will be disappointed with that after all the hard work he had done and he knows he's made a mistake. That will hurt.

    Gone!

Washington Sundar had to wait until the 69th over to get a bowl and he strikes in his fifth over - the third one after lunch.

Ollie Pope manages to nick his drifting off-spin to first slip and is furious with himself.

What you don't see is the little look from Joe Root before the ball is bowled. He sees the gap and just whips it with absolutely no spin from the tracks.

  11. Eng 341-2published at 76 overs

You didn't expect Joe Root to need time to get back into his rhythm, did you? He times the boxer shorts off a clip through mid-wicket and the ball keeps trundling all of the way to the boundary sponge.

Loving the top order of England this innings. Can’t remember the last time all four made 50+, usually one folds easily.

Joe Root goes back, as he does, and knocks the easiest of singles into the leg side.

It's going to spin from both ends in the sunshine.

India have a new ball due in five overs and it is quite clear that it has to work for them. They are in big trouble otherwise and that is putting it mildly.

  15. Eng 333-2published at 74.1 overs

Washington Sundar is bowling the first over after lunch. He has two mid-wickets in place, looking for something chipped in the air.

Can we now put to bed the Crawley and Pope debate? They have both taken down one of the best test playing nations. They go to Australia, no doubt.

Without meaning to labour the point I made below, Prasidh Krishna keeps hitting the top of off on the practice pitches in front of me.

Akash Deep, who missed this game with a groin issue, is bowling too.

They could come back at the Oval but will it be too late?

India's morning was a tough one. The closest they came to a wicket was actually a run-out chance when Joe Root was on 22.

Had Ravindra Jadeja's throw hit, or had an India player got to the stumps, Root would have been well out.

It has been tough going since.
