Henry: It is not often we absolutely dominate a team under the Bazball era. If this is the adaption that they were speaking of at the start of the summer, then I am all for it. Loving this.

    Pope 70, Root 63

Joe Root reverse sweeps Ravindra Jadeja into the covers for three, before a trio of dot balls take us into lunch.

England's session without a shadow of doubt.

They've added 107 runs from 28 overs, with both Ollie Pope and Joe Root passing 50 as England get through the session without losing a wicket.

If Washington Sundar is getting the drift away from the right handers and he is bowling that line outside off stump, he does not have the field for it - he's got four fielders on the off-side and five on the on-side. Might as well flip it.

  8. Eng 327-2published at 73 overs

Ollie Pope ends Washington Sundar's over by driving into the covers for two.

We'll get another over in before lunch.

  9. Eng 323-2published at 72 overs

And another four for Joe Root, cutting Ravindra Jadeja past slip.

    He moves to 58.

Shubman Gill cannot alone be blamed for getting the strategy wrong. I think the blame has to go also on the likes of KL Rahul, who is a senior player, and the likes of Morne Morkel and Gautam Gambhir who are part of the coaching staff.

    Trail India by 40 runs

A seventh four for Joe Root, cracking down Washington Sundar down the ground.

There's a happy hum around the ground as England go about their business.

Ravindra Jadeja needs to slow down. His natural pace is quick but he needs to slow down and find his rhythm which I am sure he will.

  13. Eng 313-2published at 70 overs

Ravindra Jadeja rattles through his over, conceding just an Ollie Pope single through point.

A little under 15 minutes until lunch.

Brilliant running between the wickets by these two since the run out chance. Applying pressure on the field and accumulating.

With his record at Old Trafford, is Joe Root the man most comfortable crossing the Pennines in this direction since Eric Cantona?

England looking comfortable here, as Washington Sundar looks set to bowl for the first time in this innings.
