Fielding to forget - England drop three catches in final session

Brilliant from Yashasvi Jaiswal. A wonderful player for India.

Those dropped catches from last night are costing England.

Jaiswal makes century as England pay for two dropped catches

He isn't on 99 for long! A single brings up Yashasvi Jaiswal's sixth Test century.

He leaps in the air, runs a mile, places his helmet and gloves on the ground, makes a heart shape with his fingers, and hugs Karun Nair. Friends again.

We've seen three flavours of Jaiswal throughout his innings. Last night, he breezed to his half-century. This morning, he was composed and scored steadily. After lunch, he's been chaotic. But, he's made it to three figures and he's still batting.

Yashasvi Jaiswal runs two and moves to 99.

He wanted three and is yelling to Karun Nair, who turned the run down.

Atkinson traps Gill lbw with first ball after lunch

It looks to me that England have had a talking to at lunchtime.

Getting Gill first ball gives you a boost, but this last 20 minutes England have bowled with more intensity.

  6. Ind 209-4published at 50 overs

Yashasvi Jaiswal starts the over with some sensible running to move two runs closer to three figures... and then the wild wafting returns.

He's 97 not out from 125 balls. Maybe he'll settle down again if he makes it to 100.

It didn't look convincing and Karun Nair is not comfortable with anything around the ribcage area.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, eyeing a century, goes for an uppercut and misses. England had a fielder lurking at deep third.

Five runs, including a clipped four for Karun Nair, added to India's total.

This series has not been for the faint hearted. It has been a rollercoaster.

  10. Ind 200-4published at 48 overs

    India lead by 177 runs

Yashasvi Jaiswal finally gets one off the middle of the bat, cutting for four to move into the 90s.

    A single brings up India's 200.

  11. Ind 195-4published at 47.2 overs

Half-hearted wave of the arm from Josh Tongue. Small shake of the head from umpire Ahsan Raza. How many times have we seen that?

  12. Ind 193-4published at 47 overs

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been equally out of sorts since lunch.

He swipes wildly at a wide delivery from Gus Atkinson and is fortunate that the ball beat his top edge. Jamie Smith is knocked over by the bounce as he takes the catch. Later in the over, another rising ball yields a sharp intake of breath.

Jaiswal was the picture of composure this morning...

This is the Test and the series, right here. The Oval crowd knows it, too. If India are still batting an hour after tea, they probably win the match. But if England go bang, bang...

Shubman Gill facing pace deliveries hitting the stumps in away Tests:

Before this series - six dismissals @ 11.6, 17 balls per dismissal

This series - three dismissals @ 17, 34 balls per dismissal

Despite three dismissals this series exploiting his weakness with the nip-backer hitting the stumps, Gill has significantly improved his dismissal rate against such deliveries compared to in previous away tours.

Karun Nair needs to switch on. That was a nothing shot.

For Karun Nair, this is a great opportunity for him to re-establish himself.

He has played four Test matches and he's got one half-century. This is a good opportunity to get a big one from here.

  16. Ind 192-4published at 46 overs

It's been a skittish start from Karun Nair.

After making a real mess of ducking out of the way of a short ball from Gus Atkinson in the previous over, he starts Josh Tongue's first over of the session with a wild waft and miss.

He and Yashasvi Jaiswal exchange mid-over singles to add two to India's total.

  17. Ind 190-4published at 45 overs

Karun Nair, now sporting a heavily taped index finger, safely navigates two further dot balls before running a leg bye off the penultimate delivery of the over.

A good over from Gus Atkinson.

Karun Nair, new batter in, got a very important half-century in the first innings.
