Will England rue six dropped catches in India's second innings?

The pace is still good from Atkinson for a guy in his 22nd over.

  2. Ind 276-6published at 66 overs

Dhruv Jurel was desperate to get off the mark.

Third ball of the over, he sets off for a single but is sent back by Ravindra Jadeja as Ben Duckett swarms the ball. Duckett's throw misses and Jurel, with a well-executed dive, would have been safe. He gets his run off the next ball.

Three singles, three dots in total.

  3. Ind 273-6published at 65 overs

    India lead by 250 runs

India's lead is up to 250 and despite being six down, they've still got Washington Sundar to come.

It is a poor shot. Jaiswal is in disgust that he has hit the only man there.

He has played brilliantly for his 118.

Just when you felt like the next 15 overs were India's opportunity, England have picked up a wicket. The lead is a good one but it is not match-winning.

    England have caught one.

Jaiswal's series with the bat is over but he has done some damage.

Yashasvi Jaiswal targets the boundary but picks out Jamie Overton at backward point to bring his excellent knock to an end. It's a good catch from the fielder, getting down low.

England have clung onto one and have a breakthrough with a little over half an hour to go before tea.

Anything over 300 would require a great chase. The Headingley pitch, where England chased 371 in the first Test, was flatter than this one.

  8. Ind 272-5published at 64 overs

Yashasvi Jaiswal goes after Joe Root and absolutely hammers the ball into the covers. However, it goes straight to a fielder.

A single for Ravindra Jadeja is the only scoring shot of the over.

  9. Ind 271-5published at 63 overs

Yashasvi Jaiswal attempts another uppercut but Josh Tongue's short ball is too high. He's not had much success with that shot since lunch.

India extend their lead by three.

  10. Ind 268-5published at 62 overs

Joe Root starts with a maiden.

Ollie Pope is sticking with Josh Tongue from the opposite end.

England had to bowl spin at some stage. To be fair the seamers have run in unbelievably hard. How long can Jaiswal not be tempted by Root?

If Joe Root doesn't get hit out of the attack he might be on for 10 overs.

Will England be made to pay for six dropped catches in India's second innings?

The last time England dropped six catches in an innings in a home Test was all the way back in 2006 against Pakistan, coincidentally also at the Oval.

All but one of the 61 overs in India's second innings have been bowled by England's three-man pace attack...

Ollie Pope has pre-empted my point. Here comes the spin of Joe Root.

I think that would have been too high for a second slip.

  16. Ind 263-5published at 60 overs

    India lead by 240 runs

Two boundaries for Ravindra Jadeja off Jamie Overton.

The first is lucky, a big edge flying high over the head of lone slip Joe Root. The second is well-timed through point.

India's lead is creeping up towards 250.

  17. Ind 255-5published at 59 overs

A quieter over from Josh Tongue. One run added.

I've only got space for one more dropped catch on my scorecard.

I suspect if Mark (14:26) was an Aussie fan he'd be finding reasons to be negative with them too. England have 8 wins and only 2 losses from our last 13 series, whilst (mostly) playing cricket you actually want to watch. Obviously lots of room for improvement but seems a cheap day to doommonger by ignoring the great cricket that both sides have played this series and place emphasis on a day where England are toiling with a diminished and rotated bowling attack (and might still win!)

Well, the first over after lunch brought the wicket of Shubman Gill.

The first over after drinks, bowled by Jamie Overton, brought a dropped catch and eight runs.
