Devine looked a bit frustrated in her first seven balls.

Finally a bit of impetus and it's no surprise it comes from the bat of Sophie Devine. A dismissive pull through mid-wicket forces Nadine de Klerk to alter her plans and the great New Zealander times a slower ball for four next up.

Devine scored a century in defeat against Australia. She's in form.

I don't want to say this was a quiet over but I have been distracted by trying to explain to the older members of our desk the concept of 'pundit shoes'.

  6. drinks break

    Drinks - NZ 51-2published at 15 overs

Almost another! Georgia Plimmer, with 14 runs to her name from 45 deliveries, decides she has to have a swing but one chips the ball into the air. A fielder comes charging in off the extra cover boundary but cannot get there in time.

That's drinks with South Africa in control.

It feels like New Zealand are just plodding along, they might try and find higher risk options but South Africa are bowling really well.

  8. NZ 50-2published at 14 overs

Masabata Klaas has done it again. A run of dots - five on this time - and then a big wide delivery that beats Sinalo Jafta behind the stumps. Frustrating.

Sophie Devine is still waiting to face her first delivery.

  9. How's stat?!published at 11:27 BST 6 October

That is the first time Melie Kerr has been dismissed by Nadine de Klerk in ODIs.

It's a big wicket for South Africa as Kerr averages 47.3 in her eight previous ODI matches against South Africa.

Kerr will be absolutely fuming with that. She will have been wanting to bat all day but that run-rate has been slowly creeping down.

The pressure tells! After four more dots in Nadine de Klerk's over, Melie Kerr has a swipe. She's aiming somewhere on the leg side but slices the ball up in the air to mid-off. Sune Luus has to dive for it but gets there with two hands.

The wicket has been taken by De Klerk but that has been an all-round effort from South Africa's bowlers.

Run-out chance! Melie Kerr would have been well out.

It was Tazmin Brits with the throw - a former youth world javelin champion. Not the wisest move from Kerr to take on that arm.

There has been a lot of dot balls and it feels like there is a release after it.

Without meaning to labour the point, there were 60 balls in that powerplay and 48 of them were dots.

Ah. This will frustrate South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt.

The pressure builds and builds as Georgia Plimmer's struggle continues but Masabata Klaas throws down five wides to release that stranglehold.

  16. How's stat?!published at 11:09 BST 6 October

Melie Kerr has a solid record against Marizanne Kapp, but it is not a particularly free-scoring one for the New Zealander.

In the five previous matches Kerr has come up against Kapp she has never been dismissed by the South Africa all-rounder.

But there's fair a degree of respect shown by Kerr with 35 runs scored off 64 balls at a strike rate of 54.

  17. NZ 32-1published at 9 overs

    Plimmer 10, M Kerr 20

Nadine de Klerk's first over is a carbon copy of the last. A four through the covers, the only change being this one comes from Melie Kerr's bat, and five deliveries without a run.

South Africa will be comfortable with this run-rate.

A lovely shot from Plimmer there, she just capitalised the length. It is just so important in 50-over cricket to be clinical.

  19. NZ 28-1published at 8 overs

It's getting to a point where it's fair to say there have been too many dot balls here. Georgia Plimmer drives for ball for four but there isn't a run in the rest of the over as she repeatedly picks out the fielder.

Nadine de Klerk is the next to enter the attack.

  20. NZ 24-1published at 7 overs

    Plimmer 6, M Kerr 16

After five more dots tot up, Melie Kerr takes a couple of steps down to Marizanne Kapp in an attempt to break the shackles. She times it well, squeezing the ball between mid-off and extra cover but there's a good stop to keep the runs to two.

Time for a bowling change. Masabata Klaas is coming on.
