If we get to a situation similar to yesterday where the light is bad, I don't think we'll see Dhananjaya de Silva just happy to bowl spin like England were.

There have only been two sessions today but they've been very long ones. He'll want extra rest for his seamers so they can come back fresher tomorrow.

Jayasuriya's excellent post-interval run continues as he sends down another maiden to Smith.

What was in that tea, I wonder?

This being Lancashire, maybe he enjoyed a particularly excellent chip barm.

Cricviz's Kieran Parmley has been in touch, having seen your Sam Curran texts and tweets. He's done some digging and England win more than they lose when Curran is on the team-sheet.

England's Test record between 2018 & 2021 (when Sam Curran was an active Test player)

    • Overall with Curran - 24 matches, 16 wins, 5 losses, 3 draws - 66.6% wins
    • Without Curran - 25 matches, 6 wins, 15 loss, 4 draws - 24.0% wins

    • In England with Curran - 12 matches, 9 wins, 1 loss, 2 draws - 75.0% wins
    • Without Curran - 13 matches, 3 wins, 7 losses, 3 draws - 48.0% wins

With every run, you can see the body language on Sri Lanka's players drop a bit. Each run is a psychological blow at this stage.

    Hello, a bit of life!

Vishwa Fernando replaces Milan Rathnayake after just two overs and Woakes strikes him for consecutive fours, flicking one off the pads and guiding the next ball through the covers.

That's what one wicket can do, it completely changed how England have played him.

Jayasuriya's first 10 overs went for 41 runs, but since then he has bowled five overs, two maidens, 1-6.

A couple of singles to close the over, this time off Jayasuriya.

I would put England in front, at the moment. There's not much in it but it feels like a game where even a lead of 50 could be so important.

  10. Eng 209-5published at 47 overs

The England batters exchange a couple of singles at the back-end of Rathnayake's second over.

It's a tad soporific out there, to be honest.

Jayasuriya looks like a very different bowler, all of a sudden.

He's just got one ball to turn, got a wicket, and it's filled him with confidence. The batters have been much more cautious since.

  12. Eng 207-5published at 46 overs

Jayasuriya rattles through a maiden to Woakes.

He's kept a tight line since the interval, albeit the turn he found to dismiss Brook hasn't re-emerged.

Rob Stow: Curran at seven just creates more problems than it solves. He’s not good enough with either the bat or the ball to justify that role.

  14. Eng 207-5published at 45 overs

The first bowling change for Sri Lanka after the interval, with the wicketless debutant Milan Rathnayake replacing Asitha Fernando.

He twice draws an inside edge from Smith, the first beating the keeper and running away for a rather fortuitous four.

    England trail by 35

A perfunctory nudge into the leg side from Woakes brings up England's 200.

    Parity is in sight.

The slowness of the outfield has been a feature of this ground. Balls that have been really well struck have just stopped.

  18. Eng 198-5published at 43 overs

Smith slaps Asitha into the leg side, but the ball is just about fended off the boundary ropes and the England batters run three.

Another four shot strangled by the slow outfield.

Woakes eases a two to deep third, before Asitha finishes the over with four dots.

    Here's that Harry Brook wicket.

We can see him back in the changing room, looking at a laptop with Matty Potts. I'd guess he's trying to work out where that turn came from.

You're the main spinner, you've just got one to turn from leg to off stump but you've got five men out on the boundary! It really is unusual.
