Records have tumbled and milestones surpassed on an absorbing ‘moving day’ in the latest round of County Championship

With only three rounds to come, the next 24 hours look like they could prove crucial to the ambitions of several teams.

Liam Dawson completed a match to remember by taking a second five-wicket haul to end with match figures of 10-99, oh, and hit 104 with the bat to boot as Hampshire wrapped up an innings win over lowly Lancashire at Old Trafford.

Ollie Hannon-Dalby finished with 6-43 as Warwickshire swept aside Kent, who look destined for the drop, by an innings and 21 runs.

Jack Leach also picked up five to help put Somerset in a commanding position against Durham going into the final day, despite a century for Brydon Carse, while teenager Freddie McCann made 154 for Notts against Surrey, for whom Will Jacks claimed a career-best seven wickets.

In Division Two, Colin Ingram made a career-best 257 not out for Glamorgan but their hopes of a big win over Leicestershire were held up by the weather, while there were tons for Middlesex’s Sam Robson and Derbyshire’s Wayne Madsen as their sides battle to save the game.

We’ll be back bright and early tomorrow morning for all the thrills and spills, do join us then.

    Somerset v Durham 15-3 (target 420)

Make that seven close fielders, plus wicketkeeper and bowler Jack Leach.

Credit to George Drissell, who plays out five of those six balls with a straight bat while the other zips past his outside edge.

Durham live to fight another day - just. Somerset are in buoyant mood as they troop off after removing the visitors' top three so cheaply.

    Somerset v Durham 15-3 (target 420)

We started this Durham innings with three fielders around the bat - that number has now increased to six.

Huge pressure on George Drissell and Callum Parkinson, who are battling hard to survive until stumps. They're certainly not concerned about scoring runs at the moment.

I was convinced there would be no more play today, so much so I recorded my end of play voice piece. My colleague was on his way to the dressing rooms to grab an interview and others had headed home.

Then I spotted the little roller being used and Archie Vaughan doing some bowling warm-ups. Surely not? But yes, the umpires Rob Bailey and Mike Burns brought the players back on just after 6pm and said there would be another 14 overs in the gloom.

That has somewhat backfired on the Durham skipper Scott Borthwick. He was arguing earlier it was too dark to be in the field, while the Somerset batsmen said they were happy to play on.

So when he brought Brydon Carse into the attack the umpires said it was too dark for him to bowl and everyone walked off. Somerset then cunningly declared and said they were happy to bowl their spinners. And the players came back on.

  6. wicket

WICKET: Borthwick b Vaughan 4published at 18:34 British Summer Time 31 August

    Somerset v Durham 15-3 (target 420)

Somerset are certainly glad they got out there again tonight!

Archie Vaughan pierces Scott Borthwick's defences and that's two wickets in two balls for the home side.

There are two nightwatchmen out there now, with Callum Parkinson joining George Drissell.

  7. wicket

WICKET: Lees c Overton b Leach 6published at 18:32 British Summer Time 31 August

    Somerset v Durham 15-2 (target 420)

Somerset are celebrating their second wicket - and Jack Leach has his sixth of the match!

Alex Lees tried to turn Leach off his pads and Craig Overton, at leg slip, dives to take the catch.

  8. Close of play at Hovepublished at 18:30 British Summer Time 31 August

    Sussex 607-8 dec v Derbyshire 290 & 142-2

Jack Carson bowls the final six balls, with the only run seeing Wayne Madsen nudging a single to move to 31, following up his first innings 138.

Harry Came is 54 not out from 167 deliveries overnight after a first-innings duck.

They and Derbyshire will be back in the morning, seeking to bat out the day with eight wickets in hand and a deficit of 176 to try to wipe out.

Sussex need eight wickets to move a step closer to Division One.

Remember those old deodorant commercials where everyone would raise both arms to show how fragrant they were thanks to a squirt or two of the product in question?

I can't know what kind of odour Somerset's close fielders are giving off, but they're all in that same pose as they and bowler Jack Leach appeal unsuccessfully for an lbw against Alex Lees.

  10. Postpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 31 August

    Sussex 607-8 dec v Derbyshire 290 & 140-2

James Coles sends down a wide, yes really, in the penultimate over. Those five close catchers look none too impressed.

Harry Came and Wayne Madsen tick the strike over to move to 54 and 30 not out respectively.

Madsen will be on strike for the final over of the day.

    They trail by 177.

  11. Postpublished at 18:22 British Summer Time 31 August

    Sussex 607-8 dec v Derbyshire 290 & 135-2

Fielders are flocking around Harry Came like seagulls on a discarded bag of chips as James Coles sends down his latest over of gentle left-arm spin.

He stands tall and negotiates the latest over, keeping strike to then suffer a similarly smothering field as he faces up to Jack Carson's off-breaks.

12 balls remain in the day. The Derbyshire watch is nearly over... (until tomorrow!)

  12. Postpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 31 August

    Somerset v Durham 9-1 (target 420)

Durham skipper Scott Borthwick is off the mark now, steering Jack Leach for a single on the off side as he and Alex Lees try to battle through to stumps.

They've got a way to go yet, as long as the light remains fit for play.

  13. 50 runs

50 partnership for Derbyshirepublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 31 August

    Sussex 607-8 dec v Derbyshire 290 & 130-2

Wayne Madsen carves the first delivery of the over from Tom Haines away past point to the fence to move to 27 and take the Derbyshire partnership with Harry Came to 51 in 89 balls.

They will need plenty more of these, but it's a building block for the visitors as they battle to thwart the Division Two leaders.

  14. Postpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 31 August

    Somerset v Durham 6-1 (target 420)

Plenty of ooh and aahs among what remains of the Taunton crowd as Jack Leach pings in a ball that turns away from Scott Borthwick and rolls to the rope for four byes.

Borthwick is yet to score and also survived a strong lbw shout in the previous over against Archie Vaughan.

  15. 50 runs

50 for Harry Camepublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 31 August

    Sussex 607-8 dec v Derbyshire 290 & 126-2

It took him 140 balls but Harry Came has posted a half-century to help the Derbyshire cause at Hove, hitting five boundaries along the way.

He made an eight-ball duck in the first innings so this is a welcome turnaround in fortunes for him.

He and Wayne Madsen have whittled the Sussex advantage down to 191.

Six overs remain by the seaside.

  16. wicket

WICKET: McKinney run out 0published at 18:08 British Summer Time 31 August

    Somerset v Durham 1-1 (target 420)

    Disaster for Durham!

What on earth was Alex Lees thinking?

He drives Archie Vaughan straight to Tom Abell on the off side and sets off for a single that was never on.

Ben McKinney is run out for a duck as Abell returns the ball to James Rew, who demolishes the stumps.

  17. Postpublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 31 August

    Somerset v Durham 1-0 (target 420)

Unsurprisingly, it's Jack Leach who opens the bowling in this Durham second innings, complete with a slip, leg slip and short leg.

Alex Lees gets the scoreboard up and running by turning a single to leg - and there's an appeal for a bat-pad catch against Ben McKinney, but the umpire rules it was pad only.

  18. Close of play at Sophia Gardenspublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 31 August

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 144-3

Huge frustration for Glamorgan who lose more than 20 overs from their quest to oust Leicestershire and complete an innings win to keep themselves in the promotion race.

The frustration also stems from the fact that both Ajinkya Rahane (47*) and Peter Handscomb (33) were both dropped by Mason Crane in the final hour or so of play.

The pair have put on 70 from 129 balls together and have whittled the Glamorgan lead down to 155.

The hosts will be back in the morning looking to reclaim the initiative, while the Foxes will be looking to complete the salvage effort.

  19. Stumps at Headingleypublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 31 August

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 441-5

Middlesex haven't quite managed to erase any chance of being made to follow on, but given that we've seen 11 wickets fall in three days, it's hard to envisage them losing five for next to nothing in the morning.

Sterling effort by Ryan Higgins, who finishes unbeaten on 117 after Sam Robson starred with an earlier century for the visitors.

Luke Hollman is the other not-out batter on 21 and Middlesex trail Yorkshire by 160 runs.

  20. SOMERSET DECLAREpublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 31 August

    Somerset 492 & 263-5 dec v Durham 336

It's still pretty gloomy at Taunton, but the Somerset players are out there warming up now after declaring during that delay for bad light.

That means Durham will need 420 to win and in theory, there are 14 overs remaining tonight.

You'd think it's likely to be an all-spin diet for Somerset when that run chase begins.
