  1. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 127-3

Frazer Sheat tempts Peter Hanscomb into a pull through mid-wicket but Mason Crane - yes, him again - puts down the tough chance.

That is three catches in the span of 10 overs either side of tea which the spinner has shelled. This one was firmly struck and looks to have hurt Crane's left-hand, but his pride is probably stinging just as badly.

Handscomb and Rahane are the two key scalps and they have both now been given another life.

  2. wicket

NOTTS ALL OUT FOR 405published at 16:43 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Notts 405 all out v Surrey 525

Will Jacks finishes off this Notts first innings by removing Farhan Ahmed for a duck with the last man struck in front in attempting to play to leg.

It is a seventh wicket for Jacks and a career-best effort of 7-129. Well bowled sir!

Surrey lead by 120 runs at halfway.

They will have to push on with the bat to set up a declaration, but their chances of forcing a win are a lot better than they were 30 minutes ago when Notts were 384-6.

  3. 50 runs

50 for Kyle Verreynnepublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Notts 405-9 v Surrey 525

Kyle Verreynne struck the first six of the Notts innings off Cam Steel.

He now tucks a single away off Will Jacks to clock up a 50 on his Notts debut and a 33rd of his career.

The 27-year-old averages nearly 49 in first-class cricket so Notts may have pulled off a great move in bringing in the South Africa wicketkeeper for three games.

  4. wicket

WICKET Brookes c Das b Harmer 19published at 16:35 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Essex 404 v Worcs 266 & 278-8

Ethan Brookes scampers down the track to Simon Harmer and gets away with missing one, Michael Pepper also misses the ball and the stumping chance and it runs away for four byes.

However from the next ball a reverse sweep attempt skews back to the diving Robin Das at short leg who takes a neat catch.

Harmer has offered scoring chances, but has also looked capable of finishing the innings by himself.

Tom Taylor is the new batter and Essex smell blood.

  5. wicket

WICKET Lord lbw b Steel 10published at 16:34 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Notts 404-9 v Surrey 525

A 12-ball spell at the crease in his first first-class innings for Rob Lord.

He hits a four to help the score past 400, but he is almost yorked by Cam Steel and that is an easy LBW call for the umpire.

16-year-old Farhan Ahmed is the last batter.

  6. Postpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 111-3

Back out in Cardiff, much to the delight of Sam Northeast and his troops, you'd imagine.

34 overs (in theory at least) for them to make further inroads and try to prevent Leicestershire wiping out too much more of this 188-run deficit.

  7. wicket

WICKET: Abell c Robinson b de Leede 56published at 16:31 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Somerset 492 & 228-5 v Durham 336

As predicted, there wasn't time for Tom Abell to advance to another hundred and he perishes trying to press the accelerator.

It's a first wicket of the game for Bas de Leede, with Ollie Robinson claiming another catch behind the stumps.

Archie Vaughan is at the crease now, with Somerset 384 ahead.

  8. 50 runs

50 for Jack Daviespublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 372-4

Jack Davies (Middlesex)Image source, Rex Features

Well batted Jack Davies, who reaches his third half-century of the season - and the fourth of his first-class career - from 104 balls.

Davies has gone for his shots at times, but also displayed a good deal of patience - just what Middlesex needed in this partnership with Ryan Higgins, which now stands at 109.

  9. Postpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Essex 404 v Worcs 266 & 273-7

Double teapot from Matt Critchley as the Essex spinner sees Ethan Brookes get a leading edge to his umpteenth sweep attempt, only for the ball to loop to safety.

Brookes has 18 and has swept the Pears lead up to 135.

Simon Harmer beats the bat and the stumps of Logan van Beek by millimetres to start the next over.

Essex want this done tonight, make no mistake.

  10. 50 runs

50 for Tom Abellpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Somerset 492 & 220-4 v Durham 336

Tom Abell (Somerset)Image source, Rex Features

A sparkling cover drive for four off Bas de Leede takes Tom Abell past 50 for the second time in this match, from 69 balls.

Given the way Abell's batting, you'd back him to turn this one into a century as well - but the match situation, with Somerset looking to set up a declaration, means he may not be given time to do that.

  11. wicket

    WICKET Patterson-White lbw b Jacks 0published at 16:22 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Notts 385-8 v Surrey 525

A sixth wicket for Will Jacks!

Just when we start to write off Surrey's victory chances, they go bang, bang!

A perfect ball from the off-spinner around the wicket to Liam Patterson-White and the left-hander is as dead as a dodo.

  12. Bad light stops play at Cardiffpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 111-3

Tea was a little early due to a sprinkling over Sophia Gardens and the resumption will be delayed until hopefully only 16:30 as the clouds are looming large over the ground.

The umpires walked out, had a look, and went back inside again. Needs to brighten up for them to get back out there.

Glamorgan fans are sun-dancing. Leicestershire fans quite the opposite.

  13. End of bonus pointspublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Notts 384-7 v Surrey 525

The wicket of Lyndon James comes with the end of the bonus-point period of this game.

Notts collect three with the bat so they have four for the match in the fight to avoid relegation.

Surrey got three with the bat and only two with the ball, so five more in their pursuit of the title.

Somerset have a chance to narrow the gap at the top if they can force a win over Durham.

  14. Bad light stops playpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Sussex 607-8 v Derbyshire 290 & 47-1

There's an extended tea interval for the players at Hove as the skies have darkened.

A good delay for Derbyshire, while Sussex will he hoping it isn't a long one with potentially wet weather tomorrow too.

  15. wicket

WICKET Hose b Harmer 64published at 16:19 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Essex 404 v Worcs 266 & 259-7

BIG WICKET. First ball of the session from Simon Harmer beats the forward push from Adam Hose and he is bowled.

The 43-run seventh wicket stand with Ethan Brookes is broken.

Logan van Beek is the new batter, with the visitors ahead by 121 runs.

  16. wicket

WICKET James c Sibley b Steel 23published at 16:17 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Notts 384-7 v Surrey 525

The final ball of the 110th over sees the demise of Lyndon James.

He has helped the team past the follow on target but he tamely slaps one to point and that is his innings over.

  18. Notts avoid follow-onpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Notts 376-6 v Surrey 525

Kyle Verreynne picks up a single off Cam Steel and that is job done for Notts as far as the follow on is concerned.

They trail by 149 and Surrey will have to bat again in this match.

  19. Postpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Essex 404 v Worcs 266 & 259-6

Adam Hose on strike to face Paul Walker in the opening over of the evening session...

Grey skies over Chelmsford too so not entirely sure we'll see all of the 32 overs on the slate... not that Worcestershire will mind that.

Hose moves to 63* with a nice pull off Walter for his ninth four down to fine leg.

    The lead is 121.

  20. Postpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 31 August 2024

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 350-4

They're back out for the evening session at Headingley and, with spin dominating the bulk of the overs throughout this match, we have a minimum of 26 scheduled for the rest of the day.

Minimum is the operative word - we should get a fair few more prior to stumps - and this session should give a clear idea of where the contest is heading.

Jack Davies takes a single off the first of those mandatory 26, from Ben Coad, to lift the Middlesex total to 350 - still 251 behind.
