  1. wicket

WICKET Hartley b Dawson 10published at 17:19 British Summer Time 31 August

    Lancashire 200 & 147-9 v Hampshire 389

    Liam Dawson's perfect match continues!

It is now nine wickets in the game as he bowls left-hander Tom Hartley with one that beats the defences and crashes into the stumps.

Lancashire are being well and truly outclassed and are not far away from being put out of their misery.

  2. Bad light stops play at Trent Bridgepublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 31 August

    Notts 405 v Surrey 525 & 13-1

Two balls and one run later and the players are heading to the dressing rooms.

Surrey lead by 133 runs in the second innings with nine wickets left.

We may do well to get back on tonight.

  3. Higgins passes 1,000 runs for the seasonpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 31 August

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 413-5

Ryan Higgins is into the 90s now and he'll be determined to maintain his focus as Middlesex creep towards what would effectively be a position of safety.

Higgins has just pumped Dan Moriarty back down the ground for a boundary to reach 94 - a shot that also takes the Middlesex all-rounder beyond 1,000 first-class runs this summer.

  4. Postpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 31 August

    Notts 405 v Surrey 525 & 12-1

The Notts players are all stood around chatting to umpires Paul Pollard and James Middlebrook.

Are they waiting for the umpires to send them off for bad light?

It is dark and the lights are on at Trent Bridge.

We carry on, and with spin at both ends.

  5. Bad light stops play at Cardiffpublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 31 August

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 142-3

Oh dear. Autumn really is here.

24 overs and change on the slate but those pesky clouds have other ideas.

Sam Northeast and his team are not happy. He seems to be asking to bowl spin in the failing light.

Peter Handscomb (33*) and Ajinkya Rahane (47*) are basically already back in the hutch. They are very happy with this.

They have done the business for Leicestershire, hauling the deficit down to 157 and strengthening their chances of coming back across the Severn with something to show for it.

  6. Sunny up northpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 31 August

Off for bad light in Chelmsford and Taunton.

Very gloomy in Nottingham with the lights on.

Lovely in Manchester, which does not help Lancashire!

  7. wicket

WICKET Sibley c Hameed b Ahmed 8published at 17:04 British Summer Time 31 August

    Notts 405 v Surrey 525 & 8-1

A wicket with his eighth ball of the innings for Farhan Ahmed and his eighth of the match.

Dom Sibley takes a step down the wicket but succeeds only in driving low to short midwicket.

Surrey lead by 128 as they look to push on.

  8. Postpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 31 August

    Yorks 601-6 dec v Middx 403-5

Good shot from Luke Hollman, who punches Dom Bess through the covers for four and lifts the Middlesex total above 400.

That in turn means the deficit dips below 200 and the visitors are inching towards saving the follow-on, with Ryan Higgins - who is unbeaten on 89 - probably holding the key to that.

There are a minimum 11 overs scheduled for tonight, but we'll get more than that assuming the light holds for the next hour or so.

  9. Postpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 31 August

    Glamorgan 550-9 dec v Leicestershire 251 & 133-3

Dan Douthwaite is causing some problems.

Peter Handscomb was saved by an inside edge in his previous over and now the Glamorgan man has beaten the edge of Ajinkya Rehane's bat.

Every moment those two are at the crease must seem like a lifetime for Mason Crane, who has spurned chances to dismiss them both, remember.

Their partnership is 61 from 109 balls and is the cause of some frustration for the hosts.

  10. Surrey begin second inningspublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 31 August

    Notts 405 v Surrey 525 & 1-0

Surrey are out there for the second knock with Rory Burns and Dom Sibley in the middle.

Farhan Ahmed is bowling and the lights are on.

  11. Bad light stops play at Chelmsfordpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 31 August

    Essex 404 v Worcs 266 & 303-8

Maybe that's why Simon Harmer continued...

The clouds have gathered over Chelmsford and off troop the players.

Worcestershire are 165 ahead with 20 overs remaining in the day.

This delay will certainly be aiding their cause more than Essex's.

  12. Bad light stops play at Tauntonpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 31 August

    Somerset 492 & 263-5 v Durham 336

Not what Somerset supporters wanted to see, but it's been coming and the umpires have now decided the light is too murky for play to continue.

The home side lead by 419 overall, with James Rew 33 not out and Archie Vaughan on 16.

  13. Postpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 31 August

    Essex 404 v Worcs 266 & 301-8

When you have Simon Harmer in the zone, you don't need a new ball, right?

Logan van Beek doesn't mind as he gets down on one knee to sweep the spinner to the deep square boundary for four to move to 12 and bring up the Pears 300.

    The lead is 163.

  14. A strange day in Tauntonpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 31 August

    Somerset 492 & 257-5 v Durham 336 - Somerset lead by 413

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

The Cure had a song called A Strange Day. It's one of my favourites from The Cure Live in Orange. Look it up! Very atmospheric.

And we have a similarly strange day here in Taunton.

Grey murk has been hanging over the stadium this afternoon. It's felt like dusk for hours.

The lights are on. The Durham players are complaining they can't see the ball in the field. The umpires aren't interested. It feels like an October evening.

Oh, and Somerset are 257-5 in their second innings and lead by 407.

Whether we get the remaining 25 overs in is doubtful. It's all about a declaration now from the hosts.

  15. wicket

WICKET: Davies c Lyth b Bess 61published at 16:53 British Summer Time 31 August

    Yorks 601-6 v Middx 391-5

Dom Bess has bowled magnificently throughout this innings and now he breaks this partnership of 128.

The ball turns away from Jack Davies, who tickles it to slip and Adam Lyth's safe hands do the rest.

Middlesex still need 61 to pass the follow-on target - could that wicket trigger a few more?

  16. wicket

WICKET Balderson c Prest b Abbas 7published at 16:51 British Summer Time 31 August

    Lancashire 200 & 133-8 v Hampshire 389

    Only two wickets to go...

Mohammad Abbas returns to the attack and he gets George Balderson going for a big drive outside off-stump.

The ball fairly flies to second slip where Tom Prest does expertly to cling on.

Abbas' figures now read 10.3-6-5-3. Masterful.

  17. Postpublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 31 August

    Essex 404 v Worcs 266 & 293-8

Logan van Beek (7) and Tom Taylor (10*) have nudged the Worcestershire lead up to 155, but the hosts have the option of a fresh cherry at the end of this Matt Critchley over.

  18. Play resumes at Hovepublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 31 August

    Sussex 607-8 dec v Derbyshire 290 & 49-1

After a delay of about half-an-hour the players are back out at Hove.

Harry Came and Brooke Guest have been taking it slow and one expects them to carry on in that vein with their side still 268 behind.

  19. wicket

WICKET Iyer b Dawson 35published at 16:46 British Summer Time 31 August

    Lancashire 200 & 131-7 v Hampshire 389

Liam Dawson strikes again for his eighth wicket of the match!

Venkatesh Iyer gives himself room to cut but the ball grips out of the left-hander's rough and he chops on.

The India batter departs for 35 off 26 balls and Lancashire are 58 in arrears, staring at an innings defeat.

  20. Somerset lead passes 400published at 16:45 British Summer Time 31 August

    Somerset 492 & 249-5 v Durham 336

James Rew is enjoying himself, reverse sweeping Callum Parkinson for a very low-flying six and belting Bas de Leede to the midwicket boundary in the next over.

Rew has 27 from 20 balls and Somerset are now 405 ahead - so the question now is how soon do they look to pull out?

There are 25 more overs scheduled for tonight, although two of those will be wiped out by a change of innings.
