  3. Tea at Utilita Bowlpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 23 August

    Hants v Essex 197-2

Dean Elgar keeps chugging along - he really could go as big as he wants.

The South African is up to 102 at tea but did see Tom Westley fall after a 144 stand for the third wicket.

It has been hard work for the bowlers, with no help from a green pitch which has played more like the M27.

  4. Tea at Edgbastonpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 23 August

    Warwicks 337 v Somerset 186-6

A decent comeback from James Rew and Kasey Aldridge in this session, but when the former fell for 49 Craig Overton still came in earlier than he would have wanted.

Warwickshire have bowled well without being incredible, a pretty even and lengthy afternoon session.

Spinner Ben Kellway has 3-59 from 19 overs for Glamorgan, who picked up three wickets during the afternoon session, which began with the home side on 247-5.

  6. Postpublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 23 August

    Hants v Essex 197-2

With Dean Elgar approaching his century, Jordan Cox has gone under the radar in his short innings so far.

But there have been three boundaries including a sweetly timed cut and a nice-looking straight drive.

In fact, he's already rushed to 25 in 32 balls. He really does look like a man in special form.

  7. Pressure on Notts in CLSpublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 23 August

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 131-6

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It was during a sloppy period of play, from a bowling point of view, when things suddenly started to turn in Durham's favour this afternoon.

Notts were 96-1 and the boundaries were coming freely. Debutant fast bowler Daniel Hogg had been pulled out of the Durham attack after just three overs, which had cost 26 runs.

Neil Wagner was then brought back on at the Finchale End. He went for a couple of fours, then packed the legside field and had Haseeb Hameed caught down the legside for 44.

Notts went from 96-1 in the 21st over to 122-6 by the midway point of the 33rd over. Wagner took three wickets during that period, while Bas De Leede and Ben Raine also claimed a dismissal each.

Raine has been particularly tight. He's bowled five maidens in his 12 overs and taken 1-20.

    Worcs 402-9 v Kent 171

Adam Finch cuts Matt Parkinson away for four and Worcestershire have their fourth batting point.

The home side lead by 231 and someone is going to have to bat well for Kent if they are take this match 'the distance'.

50 for Kasey Aldridgepublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 23 August

    Warwicks 337 v Somerset 184-6

Kasey Aldridge looks and feels 10 feet tall currently.

Wickets and runs for the Lions last Wednesday to Saturday, then that match-winning bowling performance at home to Leicestershire in the semi-final on Sunday.

He is keeping Somerset in this first-innings bonus point shoot out, and gets his fifth half century in first-class cricket.

He gets there with a three, five fours and one six, off 83 balls.

  10. 100 runs

for Dean Elgarpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 23 August

    Hants v Essex 181-2

A third County Championship century of the season for Dean Elgar!

He really has been the perfect replacement for Sir Alastair Cook at the top of the Essex batting order.

The South African, playing as a local player, has barely put a foot wrong today - including the perfectly timed punch down the ground to reach three-figures.

  11. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 23 August

    Surrey 307-3 v Lancs 204

Surrey's captain Rory Burns has led them in a great day so far.

His second hundred of the season, and highest score of the campaign, has seen them dominate this second day to take a big lead.

He takes tea 168 not out.

With Ben Foakes, 66 not out, the pair have shared 158 for the fourth wicket and they're now perfectly placed to bat Lancashire out of the game.

  12. wicket

WICKET Taylor lbw Jordan 20published at 15:51 British Summer Time 23 August

    Worcs 398-9 v Kent 171

Worcestershire's first innings is heading towards a rapid conclusion but they are in a dominant position in this bottom-of-the-table contest.

Akeem Jordan claims his fourth wicket as Tom Taylor plays all around a straight one and is leg before.

Number 11 James Hartshorn comes out to play his first Championship innings after being signed from Sussex club cricket. His highest score in 11 first-class games in New Zealand is 18.

    Middx 119-2 v Northants 207

Northants have a second breakthrough on the stroke of tea.

A maiden wicket for the county for Indian legger Yuzvendra Chahal.

Turns one past the inside edge of Max Holden and he looks bang in front.

    The visitors needed that.

  14. Division Two updatepublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 23 August

Glamorgan have another wicket at Derby with Zak Chappell bowled by Dan Douthwaite for 29. Anuj Dal is still there on 56 not out and the home side are 189 ahead on 357-7.

  15. wicket

WICKET Haynes c McKinney b Raine 9published at 15:46 British Summer Time 23 August

    Durham 531-7 declared v Notts 122-6

It is not Neil Wagner this time, what a gentleman, allowing others in his new side to pick up wickets.

Ombersley CC's Jack Haynes gets a few less than he would have wanted back in County whites today.

The last of the out and out batters gone, just allrounders for Notts now, though Lyndon James was made England Lions captain last week, so will take some confident from that convincing win over Sri Lanka.

  16. 150 runs

for Rory Burnspublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 23 August

    Surrey 295-3 v Lancs 204

Consecutive boundaries gets Rory Burns to 150 before tea.

He slog sweeps Luke Wells' leg spin to cow corner before pushing the next ball, fired down the leg side, past deep square for four more.

    242 balls with 22 fours.

Surrey are about to collect a second batting point too.

But the second new ball is now due to give Lancashire some hope.

  17. wicket

WICKET Bairstow lbw Carson 57published at 15:40 British Summer Time 23 August

    Yorks 202-4 v Sussex 189

Spin is the undoing of Yorkshire's Jonny Bairstow as he is pinned on the back foot by Jack Carson.

A good innings but Jonny Tattersall finds the boundary from the next ball, then adds two more to push the total past 200.

  18. 50 runs

for Sam Robsonpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 23 August

    Middx 115-1 v Northants 207

A very measured fifty in 131 balls for Sam Robson has led his side in a strong reply at Marchant Taylor's.

His fifth score over 50 this summer.

  19. wicket

WICKET Leach lbw Ogborne 1published at 15:34 British Summer Time 23 August

    Worcs 385-8 v Kent 171

Suddenly it's raining wickets at New Road.

Worcestershire lose their third for 14 runs as Joe Leach is beaten by one from Alfie Ogborne which cuts back from outside off stump and he is trapped in front.

  20. wicket

WICKET: Rew c Burgess b Rushworth 49published at 15:34 British Summer Time 23 August

    Warwicks 337 v Somerset 152-6

One shy of 50 James Rew is snicked off by Chris Rushworth and well held by the stood up Michael Burgess. The home wicketkeeper catches the away wicketkeeper very similarly to how Rew caught Burgess earlier this morning.

Still no batting points, still not past the follow on target, Somerset still trail by 185 despite that partnership of 87 from the two England Lions men.

Craig Overton will have to face a replacement ball for some unbeknown reason...surely Rushworth has little problem with a wicket taking ball?!
