  1. Postpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 23 August

    Worcs 336-5 v Kent 171

A single for Ethan Brookes off the returning Alfie Ogborne brings up a 50 partnership with Brett D'Oliveira for Worcestershire's sixth wicket.

Ogborne responds well by going past the outside edge. Plenty of effort but no reward so far today.

  2. 50 runs

50 partnership between Rew & Aldridgepublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 23 August

    Warwicks 337 v Somerset 116-5

Kasey Aldridge and James Rew spend a lot of time together, be it on the golf course, tennis court or even cricket pitches together. The latter sporting venue has been even more frequented of late due to the One-Day Cup and England Lions selection together. Though that also meant they had different spots to take up their solo sports rivalry on too.

They are always incredibly competitive in 1-1 sporting battles and celebrate each other's cricketing success as if brothers.

Well they have rebuilt nicely here at Edgbaston, their understanding for each other's games pretty important as they dig their side out of a hole.

  3. wicket

100 for the team, individual 50 & WICKET: McCann c Robinson b de Leede 51published at 14:53 British Summer Time 23 August

    Durham 531-7 declared v Notts 100-3

One brings two...and it is all happening all of a sudden.

Freddie McCann will be pretty happy to have got to 50 on his first-class debut for Notts, but departing the very next ball was not in his plan.

He played away from his body there and looks disconsolate having battled hard to get to this point.

Now two batters at the crease who have not yet faced a ball, Joe Clarke and Jack Haynes, both formerly of Worcestershire.

  4. Postpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 23 August

    Surrey 234-3 v Lancs 204

Rory Burns is now onto 114, his highest score of the season, having tucked one too straight from Tom Aspinwall to the fine leg fence.

Ben Foakes follows with a perfectly-timed nudge through square leg for four and is quickly up to 38.

It's been a busy partnership and Surrey's lead is growing.

  5. wicket

WICKET: Hameed c Robinson b Wagner 44published at 14:48 British Summer Time 23 August

    Durham 531-7 declared v Notts 96-2

Not the best of balls, a strangle down the leg side really, though it did seem planned, Neil Wagner absolutely loved it as he always does.

Haseeb Hameed had looked untroubled, but could this open the door and expose the fragile Notts middle-order now?

Only 21 overs bowled, Notts were scoring freely without much risk, could this change now?

  6. Postpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 23 August

    Yorks 140-3 v Sussex 189

It's not all about Jonny Bairstow at Scarborough.

Will Luxton strokes Fynn Hudson-Prentice awauy for four and then tries to pull the next ball and is fortunate to see it fly over the slips off the top edge to the third man boundary.

He moves to 37 not out.

  7. 100 runs

partnership between Elgar and Westleypublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 23 August

The Tom Westley and Dean Elgar run machine continues to churn out runs.

The century stand comes up with Westley rolling the ball through the covers and taking himself to 47.

Hampshire haven't been able to buy a wicket this afternoon.

  8. Postpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 23 August

    Worcs 330-5 v Kent 171

Brett D'Oliveira continues to pile on the agony for Kent.

George Garrett begins a new over and his first delivery is steered away through backward point for four.

D'Oliveira now has 80 not out from just 67 balls.

  9. Postpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 23 August

    Middx 79-1 v Northants 207

Max Holden is out there with Sam Robson trying to eat into this deficit.

He took a smart early boundary, eased through point off Justin Broad and is now into double figures, 10 not out.

Robson is 33 at the other end, having flicked a full one from Luke Procter through midwicket for his fourth boundary.

    Middlesex going nicely.

  10. 50 runs

for Dean Elgarpublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 23 August

    Hants v Essex 97-1

A rock onto the back foot, a rocket to the boundary and Dean Elgar has a half-century.

It has come in a watchful 122 balls.

In Elgar's last seven Championship innings, he has passed at least 40 in six of them.

  11. Latest from Bristolpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 23 August

    Glos 30-0 v Leics 402

So far so good for the Gloucestershire openers, who have faced eight overs so far.

Ben Charlesworth pulled a short one from Josh Hull for six, and when the left-armer tried the same tactic two balls later, he put it away for four.

  12. Postpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 23 August

    Yorks 128-3 - Sussex 189

Jonny Bairstow does look like a thoroughbred when he plays shots like those.

He eases Ollie Robinson though the covers for four and then repeats the on-drive with which he began his innings to add another boundary and advance to 24 not out.

  13. wicket

WICKET Lloyd b Crane 44published at 14:30 British Summer Time 23 August

    Derbys 281-6 v Glamorgan 168

A perfectly disguised googly spins back between bat and pad and Derbyshire skipper David Lloyd is gone.

Mason Crane's next over, though, begins with a loose ball outside leg stump which Zak Chappell flicks away for four.

  14. Second batting point for Pearspublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 23 August

    Worcs 301-5 v Kent 171

    Glorious.

Brett D'Oliveira turns a decent Akeem Jordan delivery into a half-volley by taking two steps down the pitch and strokes it away through the covers for his 11th four.

    The Worcestershire total passes 300.

  15. 50 runs

50 partnership for Nottspublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 23 August

    Durham 531-7 declared v Notts 67-1

Haseeb Hameed and Freddie McCann have hung in there well to rebuild from 11-1.

Overseas Neil Wagner has been seen off and a fellow 19-year-old debutant Daniel Hogg is now bowling at the aforementioned man in the same shoes, Mr McCann.

What a brilliant influence the One-Day Cup has had on this round of Championship action, allowing youngsters to come to the fore and prove themselves in the first team ready for a youthful August-September of red ball cricket.

  16. SURREY LEADpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 23 August

    Surrey 205-3 v Lancs 204

Ben Foakes plays a sweet clip down the ground off George Balderson and follows up with a well-timed push past extra-cover.

Two boundaries in four balls and Surrey are now in front.

  17. Postpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 23 August

    Yorks 117-3 v Sussex 189

Intriguing stuff at the moment as Jonny Bairstow is wisely taking a look at what Ollie Robinson and Jaydev Uadkat are extracting from this pitch before attempting anything too extravagant.

When Unadkat gives him too much room outside off stump, though, he square cuts powerfully for a second four.

A hundred for the Surrey skipper!

His second century of the season and first since way back in April when he made 113 against Hampshire, also here at The Oval.

He drove at a very wide one from George Balderson got a cue-end to third man for four before having a slash at another and a flashing top edge flew past the cordon for four more.

A clip off Will Williams found the midwicket fence to take him to 98 before a push down the ground for two gets to him to his century in 186 balls.

  19. Postpublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 23 August

    Hants v Essex 86-1

Back-to-back maidens from Mo Abbas - he's started well after lunch.

Mid-way through the final ball of his most recent over, Abbas made a windmill action just before taking off. I have never seen him do that before.

Seemingly neither has Tom Westley, who mimics it after leaving the ball. The two pair share a good-natured joke about the oddity afterwards.

  20. wicket

WICKET Hose c Garrett b Jordan 39published at 14:12 British Summer Time 23 August

    Worcs 286-5 v Kent 171

Relief for Kent as Adam Hose pulls a short one from Akeem Jordan, but the new ball bounces more than he expects and a top edge is safely pouched by George Garrett in the deep.

Hose put on 85 in 16 overs with Brett D'Oliveira, who is 64 not out and has now been joined by Ethan Brookes.
