    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 227-9

Brett Hutton collects his first run of the morning off the final ball of Callum Parkinson's latest over with an uppish drive.

He keeps the strike as he looks to protect number 11 Luke Fletcher.

Daniel Hogg replaces Ben Raine after his short but highly effective spell.

  2. Pitch inspection at New Road at 11:45 BSTpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Worcestershire 447 v Kent 171 & 104-2

Brighter skies (silver rather than grey, at least) over New Road and the ground staff are hard at work.

Kent are 172 behind and are probably grateful for the intervention of Mother Nature but the umpires will be out there in 15 minutes or so to decide when play might be possible.

The Pears will hope it's as soon as possible...

  3. Wagner injuredpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

Notts 226-9, trail Durham by 305

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It's not good news for Durham with regards to fast bowler Neil Wagner. He fell awkwardly on the ball yesterday while fielding and has injured his shoulder.

I gather he's been for an MRI scan today but is not expected to bowl again in this game. Paul Coughlin is his replacement.

So without Wagner, where is this game heading? He took four wickets yesteday.

If Durham take two quick wickets ths morning they may well enforce the follow-on, but if Notts bat through the session that could well change things.

The weather forecast tomorrow is not the best either.

  4. Fletcher would like another 92 here...published at 11:27 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 226-9

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

He's faced all 14 balls this morning, his 137th was Lyndon James' downfall.

It was short from Ben Raine, he took on the pull but clearly edged it through to Ollie Robinson who has taken his third catch of the innings.

The fall of Lyndon James means Luke Fletcher, Nottinghamshire's No11, is last man out. He does have 92 batting at 11 on this ground from a few years back...

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 226-9

    Ollie Robinson quickly makes amends.

Having missed a chance to remove Lyndon James, the Durham wicketkeeper accepts a second chance just six balls later.

James comes forward as Ben Raine digs one in and feathers a top-edge through behind the timbers where Robinson takes a good catch.

    Luke Fletcher joins Brett Hutton.

  6. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 226-8

Lyndon James cuts Callum Parkinson's first ball away square for the first boundary of the morning.

But the spinner has head on hands after the Notts all-rounder gets an edge behind to the second ball.

It's a sharp chance, but Ollie Robinson will have expected to snare it.

  7. Postpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 221-8

Ben Raine bowled superbly yesterday for his 1-33 off 17 overs and may have a heavy workload today.

Neil Wagner has had a scan on his shoulder injury and Durham are awaiting results. The word is that he's unlikely to play any further part in this match.

Raine is on the money immediately, but Lyndon James drives wide of the fielder at mid-off and takes a single off the final ball.

Callum Parkinson opens up from the Lumley End.

    Gloucestershire 227-3 v Leicestershire 402 - start delayed

County Ground, BristolImage source, Rex Features

Slightly better news from Bristol where an early lunch will be taken at 12.30.

Gloucestershire say they are hopeful "there will be a chance of play this afternoon".

Ben Charlesworth is waiting to resume his innings on 105 not out and James Bracey has 34.

  9. Play under way at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 220-8

It’s positively balmy in the north east.

A typically poorly-timed light rain shower can’t spoil our fun for long - and the forecast gives an improving picture through Saturday afternoon.

Lyndon James faces the first ball of the day from Ben Raine, needing to add plenty more to his unbeaten 50 to give Notts a fighting chance of avoiding defeat.

The deficit is 311 and the Notts all-rounder has number 10 Brett Hutton for company.

  10. Postpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

"That is a massive wicket as far as Yorkshire are concerned. You can see the way the Yorkshire lads are celebrating, they know that's a massive wicket."

  11. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Scarboroughpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Yorkshire 326 v Sussex 189 & 27-1

Only 17 balls possible this morning but Yorkshire did pick up the prize scalp of Daniel Hughes before they trudge off with the drizzle turning into big old fat rain, as Forrest Gump might say.

The radar suggests the Sussex respite might be short lived and this might be a relatively brief interlude.

WICKET: Hughes c Bean b Coad 12published at 11:08 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Yorkshire 326 v Sussex 189 & 27-1

    What a catch!

Ben Coad gets one to spit up at Daniel Hughes who can only glance off the shoulder of the bat and loop a ball high over the head of Finlay Bean at third slip who fires up a hand and plucks the ball one-handed out of the gloomy sky to make the breakthrough.

Perfect start for the hosts, although some umbrellas going up in the stands will dampen the enthusiasm somewhat.

Tom Clark is the new man in.

  13. Postpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Yorkshire 326 v Sussex 189 & 27-0

Jordan Thompson takes the ball for the second over of the morning. It's only 11 overs old, don't forget.

Tom Haines sucks his teeth after Thomson gets one to straighten up and beat the outside edge from the fourth delivery.

He survives, and negotiates a maiden over.

  14. Play to start at 11:15 at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 220-8

    Good news folks.

The poorly-timed rain shower has passed, blue skies have taken over the skyline and we'll be up and running at 11:15 BST.

And we've lost no overs to the wet stuff.

  15. Postpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Yorkshire 326 v Sussex 189 & 27-0

Tom Haines glances one from Ben Coad down to fine leg for the only run of the opening over of the morning to move to 15 not out.

A wan sun is fighting a brave battle with the thick cloud on the east coast. We wish it well...

  16. Good old Scarbadospublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Yorkshire 326 v Sussex 189 & 26-0

Play does indeed start on time at North Marine Road, Scarborough, where Sussex will resume their second innings, trailing by 111 runs in this Division Two match.

There has been some drizzle in the past hour and the skies remain leaden, but if you like live cricket, this is as good as it is likely to get in the next half-hour.

Ben Coad will bowl the opening over from the Trafalgar Square End. Early wickets the order of the day for the hosts.

Tom Haines (14*) and Daniel Hughes (12*) are back in the middle for Sussex...

  18. Wet and wild start to the weekendpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

County Ground, BristolImage source, Rex Features

Ah, the start of the August Bank Holiday weekend in the United Kingdom... perhaps we should have expected this.

The weather radar this morning does not provide much hope for a full day of play anywhere, we're afraid to say.

With huge swathes of southern and central England getting an early morning soaking, our best chances of play beginning on time look likely to be up at Scarborough where Sussex will return to the middle 111 behind against hosts Yorkshire in Division Two.

The picture, if not the skies, should become clearer in the next few minutes, and we'll let you know as soon as we know.

  19. Drizzle in CLSpublished at 10:51 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 220-8

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

There's a bit of drizzle in Chester-le-Street and the main covers are on. Looks like some of that unreliable southern weather has accidentally moved north.

Hopefully, it's just a passing shower and we will get going soon. If Durham take two quick wickets this morning they may enforce the follow-on.

But it will be interesting to see how much of a part fast bowler Neil Wagner can play.

He took four wickets yesterday, but then fell heavily on his shoulder while fielding and headed off back to the dressing room.

  20. Top three hold key for Lancashirepublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancashire 204 & 4-0

    Rory BurnsImage source, Rex Features

Division One leaders Surrey have a seventh win of the season in their sights following skipper Rory Burns' magnificent 227 on the second day against Lancashire at The Oval.

The left-hander hit a six and 29 fours in his 348-ball innings, and shared a stand of 197 with Ben Foakes, who contributed 82.

A largely inexperienced Lancashire side will resume needing another 236 to avoid an innings defeat - and will look to their top three of Keaton Jennings, Luke Wells and Josh Bohannon for a major innings.

"There's been some positive stuff, and some not so positive stuff. We're a long way behind in the game and we're going to have to play some really good cricket. It's about one ball at a time and a lot of the old cliches," seam bowler Will Williams told BBC Radio Lancashire.
