Ben Coad's five-for has Yorkshire on the brink of a crucial win over leaders Sussex

Another absorbing day of county cricket is at a close, and all nine results will need to be settled on the final day.

All matches were affected by the weather to some extent, though Yorkshire made the most of the Scarbados sunshine as they eventually ousted stubborn Division Two leaders Sussex to tee up a modest run-chase on Sunday.

Durham also made the most of the north east climate as they closed on Division One victory over Notts, needing just four wickets tomorrow to seal the win, while Worcestershire require just two and a quick chase to beat Kent, despite Tawanda Muyeye's superb 211 on day three for the visitors.

Surrey need nine wickets to see-off Lancashire after a rain-hit day at the Oval.

Derbyshire will look to seal their first home win since 2019 by polishing off the Glamorgan tail but the weather means it will be harder for Middlesex to engineer a win, and Gloucestershire need 10 wickets on the final day if they are to beat Leicestershire, despite double-centuries from Ben Charlesworth and James Bracey today.

We'll be back after 10:30 BST tomorrow for all the thrills and spills of the final day. Until then, good evening!

    Yorkshire 326 & 28-2 v Sussex 189 & 239

Dan Moriarty turns the final ball of the day from Ollie Robinson for four and Yorkshire will need to score another 75 on the final day to beat the Division Two leaders.

Sussex slumped to 84-4 after resuming on 26-0 at North Marine Road, but Tom Alsop (61) and John Simpson (67) staved off any prospect of an innings defeat with a stand of 85.

Ben Coad, though, took four wickets with the new ball for figures of 5-69 to put Yorkshire on course for their third win of the season.

  4. Close of play at Derbypublished at 18:51 British Summer Time 24 August

    Derbyshire 429 v Glamorgan 168 & 236-7

Derbyshire have waited 1,802 days for a home win. What's one more?

Glamorgan's Mason Crane and Dan Douthwaite dug deep to stave off the threat of an innings defeat this evening in the lengthening shadows, but their side remain 25 runs in arrears with three wickets in hand.

They will need to dig even deeper, and hope for considerable help from the weather, if they are to escape Derby without a defeat this weekend.

  5. Close of play in Bristolpublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 24 August

    Gloucestershire 544-4 dec v Leicestershire 402 & 41-0

Quite a day for batsmen after the morning session was washed out in Bristol.

Gloucestershire added 317 to their overnight 227-3, with Ben Charlesworth the only wicket to fall for a magnificent 210.

He put on 290 with James Bracey, who was 207 not out when Graeme van Buuren decided to declare.

Leicestershire's openers survived 10 overs to the close and they will start the final day 101 behind.

  6. wicket

WICKET Muyeye c Roderick b Hartshorn 211published at 18:48 British Summer Time 24 August

    Worcestershire 447 v Kent 171 & 353-8

A maiden first class double century from Tawanda Muyeye has just about kept Kent's chances alive in this match, but they suffered a huge blow as he falls in the final over of the day.

The 23-year-old has been brilliant throughout his six hours and nine minutes at the crease, but eventually prods at one from James Hartshorn and offers Gareth Roderick a diving chance low to his right.

A magnificent innings ends after 279 deliveries with 23 fours and three sixes.

    That will be stumps.

Kent will be back in the morning with a lead of 77. Worcestershire need two wickets and a run-chase. It's been an absorbing game of cricket.

  7. Close of play at Utilita Bowlpublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 24 August

    Hants 40-1 v Essex 438-8d

Only 36 overs were possible on day three, and in all honesty, the game stayed pretty much motionless.

Sam Cook and Shane Snater injected some life with a short thrash about in the hope of getting to 450 - and another bonus point.

When that became impossible, Tom Westley declared.

Snater got Fletcha Middleton caught behind, but otherwise, Nick Gubbins and Tony Albert were unmoved and largely untroubled.

Hampshire still need to avoid the follow-on to feel safe. But the moment they reach 289 tomorrow (should they do so) this match will be condemned to a bonus point match.

  8. Postpublished at 18:43 British Summer Time 24 August

    Worcestershire 447 v Kent 171 & 353-7

Kent debutant Akeem Jordan has faced 15 balls without scoring.

Tawanda Muyeye will be on strike for the final over of the day at New Road. He is on 211 from 275 balls.

    The visitors lead by 77.

  9. Postpublished at 18:42 British Summer Time 24 August

    Yorks 18-2 - target 103

Almost three gone for Yorkshire as Ollie Robinson fizzes two in a row past the outside edge.

Dan Moriarty is happy to shoulder arms to the last ball of the over.

  10. Close of play at Edgbastonpublished at 18:42 British Summer Time 24 August

    Warks 337 & 179-5 v Somerset 239

Alex Davies flicks a single to wide third man off Andy Umeed who bowls a tidy penultimate over of the day.

He collects a single off Tom Lammonby and gives Dan Mousley five balls to face to close out the day. Which he does.

Two late wickets have checked Warwickshire's progress as the hosts end day three 277 runs ahead with five wickets in hand.

The honours belong to Davies who batted through a rain-reduced day and goes off for his isotonic recovery drink unbeaten on 109 from 199 balls.

  11. Postpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 24 August

    Derbyshire 429 v Glamorgan 168 & 232-7

Incredibly there are some fans sloping away from the County Ground and into the evening...

With Derbyshire potentially three wickets away from sealing their first home win in the County Championship in 1,802 days.

I don't care how bad the traffic is or how exciting your evening plans, you'd stay to the bitter end, right?

Dan Douthwaite and Mason Crane are trying to ensure we all reconvene tomorrow morning to play this one out...

  12. Postpublished at 18:38 British Summer Time 24 August

    Hants 39-1 v Essex 438-8d

With three overs left today, the umpires have had a chat about the ball.

It gets through the gauge easily and we've back going.

Simon Harmer gets a lovely bit of drift and turn to just go around Nick Gubbins' hanging bat. He really is a joy to watch!

  13. wicket

WICKET Thompson c Haines b Robinson 1published at 18:38 British Summer Time 24 August

    Yorks 18-2 - target 103

Nightwatch Jordan Thompson is undone by a good one from Ollie Robinson as Tom Haines takes his second catch in the gully.

Nightwatch 2 Dan Moriarty comes to the crease.

  14. Close of play at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 24 August

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 212-6

Jack Haynes plays out a maiden to Daniel Hogg (what else) and that should be his final action of the day.

Then its over to Lyndon James looks to survive the final six balls of the day from Ben Raine.

He does just that, ending with a defensive push to seal yet another maiden.

A battling rearguard action from Haynes and Matt Montgomery rescued Notts from 99-4, putting on 96 in 50.3 overs to give them hopes of escaping with a draw.

Two late wickets have left Durham just four wickets away from a third championship win of the season.

They will need some help from the weather on day four, mind you.

  15. Postpublished at 18:33 British Summer Time 24 August

    Glos 544-4 dec v Leics 402 & 29-0

Rishi Patel flicks Ajeet Singh Dale for four at Bristol. He has nine, Ian Holland is 13 not out and there are four more overs to come.

  16. Postpublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 24 August

    Warks 337 & 177-5 v Somerset 239

Play is fizzling out a little on day three at Edgbaston.

Alex Davies looks to light things up as he aims a big flash to the bowling of Tom Lammonby. Big swing, no ding.

He guides the next with much more control down to third man and lazily ambles a single. He's earned the right to amble after 195 balls at the crease.

    Two overs to go.

  17. wicket

WICKET Bean c Haines b Unadkat 10published at 18:27 British Summer Time 24 August

    Yorks 17-1 - target 103

    Jaydev UnadkatImage source, Rex Features

    Well, well, well.

Finlay Bean tries to turn Jaydev Unadkat to leg but the ball skews off the outside edge and Tom Haines takes a good catch at gully.

Not what Yorkshire wanted at this stage of the day. Jordan Thompson comes out in the nightwatch role.

  18. Postpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 24 August

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 212-6

A wide half-volley gets what it deserves as Jack Haynes cracks Daniel Hogg for a second four of his 17th over.

The deficit is down to 98.

Lyndon James is then brought to his knees as Ben Raine's first ball of a new over catches him in, let's say, a delicate part of his anatomy.

Haynes walks down the wicket to offer his consolation.

James, batting for the second time today, responds by opening the face ad running the ball down to the third man boundary to get off the mark.

A healthy and genuine edge flies past Alex Lees at third slip and finds the same piece of rope.

    Two overs to go.

  19. wicket

WICKET Parkinson c Roderick b Taylor 10published at 18:25 British Summer Time 24 August

    Worcestershire 447 v Kent 171 & 349-7

Matt Parkinson flashes at a drive but can only nick behind to Gareth Roderick off Tom Taylor.

The lead is 73 with three wickets in hand and 32 balls due to come tonight.

Worcestershire's patience and persistence is being rewarded.

Akeem Jordan is the new man for Kent, joining Tawanda Muyeye who is unbeaten on 207.

  20. Postpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 24 August

    Hants 30-1 v Essex 428-8d

I'll level with you, this isn't particularly watchable if you've spent the last month watching The Hundred!

Toby Albert and Nick Gubbins are metaphorical walls, blocking absolutely everything Essex have bowled at them.

Saying all that, Albert has just beautifully straight-driven for four down the ground to move to 14 off 58 balls. Gubbins in four off 29.
