  1. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 95-3

The skipper daren't look at the debutant.

Ben Slater edges low to first slip on 49 but Scott Borthwick grasses the chance.

It's the second time he's dropped Slater - both off Daniel Hogg.

  2. It's raining at the Ovalpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancashire 204 & 4-0

As feared, the rains have returned in the capital and the covers are back on...

We'll try again later, you'd hope!

  3. 100 runs

100 for Tawanda Muyeyepublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

The second century of the 23-year-old's burgeoning first-class career, and mark my words, not the last...

He reaches three figures from 109 balls with a single off Joe Leach. He hit 14 fours and two sixes along the way too.

He sprints through, jumps in the air, off comes the helmet, up goes the bat. There's a bow in there too.

In what has been a pretty dismal campaign for Kent thus far, this is certainly a moment to savour. Some player.

  4. 150 runs

for Ben Charlesworthpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Glos 309-3 v Leics 402

Another big shot to reach 150?

No. Ben Charlesworth contents himself with chopping Louis Kimber away for a single - but that is enough.

It has taken him 221 balls and he has hit six sixes and 16 fours so far.

James Bracey has 71 at the other end and they have added 152.

  5. Postpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Yorks 326 v Sussex 189 & 97-4

Maiden over by George Hill to Tom Alsop.

The overhead clouds at North Marine Road are now sepulchral.

Yorkshire summon spinner Dan Moriarty to bowl the next one.

  6. Postpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 91-3

Daniel Hogg is hunting a fourth wicket of the day and a third of the innings.

Bowling round the wicket, the 19-year-old squares up Ben Slater with an inswinger which wraps the Notts opener on the pad.

Perhaps doing too much and going down leg.

There's more danger as he beats Slater's outside edge once again.

A fourth maiden from nine overs for Hogg whose tail is up.

  7. wicket

WICKET Clarke lbw b Hogg 5published at 14:27 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 90-3

    BIG wicket for Durham.

Joe Clarke is a man who has played many big rearguard innings for Nottinghamshire, but not this time.

Daniel Hogg is having a day to remember as he jags one back into the pads of Clarke who stares down at the pitch as his 21-ball innings comes to an end. But he has to go.

That's a third wicket of the day from debutant Hogg.

Jack Haynes joins Ben Slater with Notts in a deep, deep hole.

  8. Bad light stops play at Derbypublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Derbys 429 v Glamorgan 168 & 70-3

There is rain in the air, but the umpires have the light meter out and have called for the covers.

Derbyshire will be happy with that mini-session with two wickets, including the always-dangerous Sam Northeast.

Glamorgan remain 191 runs in arrears.

  9. Second batting point for Glospublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Glos 300-3 v Leics 402

This really is some innings by Ben Charlesworth.

He is down the pitch to off-spinner Louis Kimber and deposits it over mid-wicket for the sixth six of his innings.

The left-hander is now 145 not out.

  10. 6 runs

for Tawanda Muyeyepublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Worcestershire 447 v Kent 171 & 127-3

Tawanda Muyeye moves to 90 from 94 balls with a simple pick-up shot off the first ball of James Hartshorn's latest over which was straying towards leg stump... for six, over midwicket.

    He's a strong young man.

    The deficit is under 150.

  11. Postpublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Yorks 326 v Sussex 189 & 90-4

Jordan Thompson overpitches and John Simpson drives pleasantly for four.

The next one is of fuller length, Simpson has nothing to do with it but it bounces more than expected and Jonny Bairstow has to take it in front of his face.

What Sussex do not need in this situation is uneven bounce.

  12. Postpublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 86-2

A nice piece of fielding on the rope from Bas de Leede denies a seventh boundary for Ben Slater who plays nicely through the covers off the returning Daniel Hogg.

De Leede makes some ground from midwicket to fine leg to again deny Notts four runs and keep them down to two leg byes.

Eight from the over. Let's call it a loosener.

  13. WICKET Northeast b Chappell 13published at 14:19 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Derbys 429 v Glamorgan 168 & 66-3

Ooooh that is a cartwheel that Simone Biles would have enjoyed in Paris earlier this month!

Zak Chappell brings one in slightly to go between Sam Northeast's bat and pad and it sends the middle stump catapulting back toward Brooke Guest.

    It guests 9.7 from me!

  14. Play to start at the Oval at 14:45 BSTpublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancashire 204 & 4-0

Groundstaff at The OvalImage source, Rex Features

... IFFFF there is no further rain. Which there might be by then, I have to say.

Lancs trail by 236 runs with all 10 wickets in hand in the second innings.

If they do get on though then tea will be set for 16:10 BST.

  15. Postpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 78-2

Another look to the heavens as Ben Raine looks for divine intervention.

The seamer angles one away from Ben Slater who plays and misses. And not for the first time today.

That's back-to-back maidens from Raine who has strung 16 dots together. But no wicket.

Durham skipper Scott Borthwick then turns to spin as Callum Parkinson returns for a twirl in place of Bas de Leede.

A single from Clarke before Slater welcomes the left-arm spinner back by caressing him for four.

    The deficit is 224.

  16. WICKET Kellaway c Guest b Brown 36published at 14:14 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Derbys 429 v Glamorgan 168 & 64-2

Is this going to be the day?

It has been 1,802 days since Derbyshire last won a home County Championship match and they have a breakthrough.

Pat Brown bowls in the channel outside off stump, Ben Kellaway wafts and edges behind.

The bad news for Derbyshire is it has got a bit dark so the floodlights are on, with torrential rain 10 miles away in Burton.

  17. 6 runs

Postpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Glos 285-3 v Leics 402

After a tidy first over, leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed is given some rough treatment by Ben Charlesworth.

An overpitched ball is hammered back past him - it was technically a caught and bowled chance - for four and the next is lofted handsomely over long-off for a maximum.

Charlesworth is now 133 not out - this is his highest first-class score.

  18. wicket

WICKET Leaning lbw b Hartshorn 27published at 14:12 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Worcestershire 447 v Kent 171 & 119-3

A good time, not a long time...

Kiwi James Hartshorn gets one to shape in and keep low and Jack Leaning barely waits to see the finger go up after being thumped on the pads infront.

Joey Evison joins Tawanda Muyeye in the middle. Kent trail by 157 and the blue skies are now silver and if anything aiding the bowlers.

The visitors need to dig in but 86 of their 119 runs have come in the form of boundaries in this innings.

  19. Postpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Worcestershire 447 v Kent 171 & 118-2

Back-to-back boundaries from Jack Leaning off Tom Taylor through the covers, taking advantage of a bit of width on offer.

14 runs from the first two overs of the third day.

Only 25 more overs like this and Kent would be ahead...

  20. wicket

WICKET Coles b Thompson 13published at 14:09 British Summer Time 24 August 2024

    Yorks 326 v Sussex 189 & 84-4

Great delivery by Jordan Thompson which beats James Coles' defensive push and uproots leg stump.

Sussex skipper John Simpson comes out to bat with his side still 53 in arrears.
