Cam Steel gets forward to kill the spin of Archie Vaughan who is one wicket away from five-wicket hauls in both innings against the defending champions.

    In just his second match.

    And there it is!

Vaughan spins one into the pads of Cam Steel and lets loose a huge appeal. And it's given. A pair for Steel, more headlines for the off spinner.

Kemar Roach are in. Nine overs to survive.

I hate to mention this, but there's rain not far away. Surely not.

Jack Leach is bowling a little quicker and flatter and strikes Jordan Clark on the front pad.

    Big appeal. Not out.

Maiden for Leach. Ten overs left to squeeze out three wickets and blow this title race wide open.

Paul Atkinson: It's getting a little darker in Taunton? I know, I live there. Turn the floodlights on then....

Tom: Build Archie Vaughan a pavilion.

Jas Singh is not a real No.11!

He has a great technique and has been in no problem whatsoever.

He watches a ball flick his pad and skid to the boundary before solidly blocking five balls from Kyle Abbott.

The lead is 135 with 19 overs left.

    Ten wickets for Archie Vaughan!

Tom Curran looks to cut against the spin and drags on to his off stump.

    This really is incredible.

Somerset need just three wickets and Surrey have lost their first innings saviour.

    Cam Steel joins Jordan Clark.

100 up for Surreypublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 12 September

    Surrey 101-6 - target 221

Tom Curran gets off the mark with a boundary off Jack Leach and then milks a single from the next ball.

An uncharacteristically poor over from Leach. But he has bowled 30 overs almost without a break, so you can forgive him a few stray balls.

Jordan Clark survives two big lbw shouts from Archie Vaughan, the second thanks to an edge.

Wicketkeeper James Rew also drops what could have been an edge from Clark.

The 18-year-old needs just one more wicket for 10 in the match.

    Pandemonium.

What an ending to a superb match.

Sorry to butt in on the madness at Taunton.

Harry Finch is taking the lead now and trying to avoid making Jas Singh face a single delivery.

The lead is now 131 with 20 overs left in the day.

  9. wicket

WICKET Shakib Al Hasan c Gregory b Vaughan 0published at 16:39 British Summer Time 12 September

    Surrey 96-6 - target 221

    ANOTHER!!!!

A third catch in as many overs for Lewis Gregory at first slip as Archie Vaughan takes a third wicket.

Shakib Al Hasan edges to Gregory for a five-ball duck and Taunton is getting excited!

    Jordan Clark joins Tom Curran.

  10. wicket

WICKET Garrett c Brown b Wheal 4published at 16:35 British Summer Time 12 September

    Kent 207 & 326-9 v Hampshire 403

    Very very interesting.

George Garrett hammers a four to the leg side boundary but nicks off Brad Wheal two balls later.

James Vince is practising his slog swings at first slip while waiting for the new batter Jas Singh...Make of that what you will.

    Lead: 130. Overs: 22.2.

  11. wicket

WICKET Sibley c Gregory b Leach 56published at 16:35 British Summer Time 12 September

    Surrey 96-5 - target 221

    Now then!

Just when you think this match has petered out, two wickets in two overs fall as Dom Sibley's brilliant 182-ball vigil is over.

He reaches forward to a Jack Leach delivery which takes the edge and flies quick and low through to Lewis Gregory who takes his second catch.

Tom Curran joins Shakib Al Hasan.

Archie Vaughan in and a Dom Sibley single brings the new man on strike.

Shakib Al Hasan goes back and Vaughan almost finds the edge.

More yelps and encouragement from the slips.

Too little, too late? There's eight overs left and it's getting a little darker.

  13. wicket

WICKET Foakes c Gregory b Leach 20published at 16:30 British Summer Time 12 September

    Surrey 95-4 - target 221

Finally a chance, but it's down!

Jack Leach draws a genuine outside edge from Dom Sibley, but it drops agonisingly short of Lewis Gregory at first slip.

The Somerset skipper stays prostrate on the ground, in frustration.

Sibley then takes three runs to rub salt in the wound.

    But then, breakthrough!!!

Leach has bowled beautifully today and gets a deserved second scalp as Ben Foakes prods forward and edges to Gregory who takes the catch low down.

A minimum of nine overs to go. Shakib Al Hasan is in.

  14. wicket

WICKET Parkinson c Vince b Abbott 7published at 16:28 British Summer Time 12 September

    Kent 207 & 321-8 v Hampshire 403

Maybe we won't need a declaration.

Guess what, it is a new spell for Kyle Abbott so obviously he immediately gets a wicket. It has been a trend in this match.

For this one, Matt Parkinson diverts to James Vince at first slip.

Lead is 125. 23.4 overs left.

Square leg umpire David Millns tries to take evasive action but is hit on the hand as Dom Sibley connects with a pull off Archie Vaughan.

Perhaps saved three runs there as Surrey add a single to a total which has moved at glacial speed this afternoon.

    Ten overs to go, folks.

    Hear me out.

Kent should try and bash a few quick runs (easier said than done against Mo Abbas) and set Hampshire about 160 in around 20 overs.

A draw puts Kent 36 points away from safety, a win would have them just 28 points adrift. That could be the difference between Division One and Division Two cricket in 2025.

The lead is currently 122 with 25 overs left on the table.

Jack Leach absolutely beseeches the umpire to raise a finger as he hits Ben Foakes on the pad.

But the umpire is not remotely interested. That was going to miss leg by some distance.

Foakes rocks back and miscues a little to point.

Maiden it is. Leach's 16th from 27 overs.

It seems a long time ago now that Archie Vaughan dismissed Rory Burns and Ryan Patel in the space of four balls.

The second with an absolute beauty.

There's no joy in the pitch for the bowlers as Dom Sibley plays out a maiden in absolute comfort and security.

A few spectators decide they've seen enough and make for the gates.

I'm not saying this game has died a death but I've been surprisingly interested in the fact that the post office van has turned up in the car park.
