Put those handshakes away for now...

Brad Wheal has been introduced back into the attack and his freshness has picked up a wicket.

Charlie Stobo doesn't get over the ball and clips to midwicket.

After a wicketless afternoon, Hampshire have struck in the evening. Lead is 110.

Ben Foakes works Jack Leach through the legside for a couple to take him on to 20 and move the fourth-wicket partnership on to 45.

This game is rather meandering to a damp squib.

    Just 13 overs left.

    Time for a drink.

    Kent 207 & 306-6 v Hampshire 403

Hampshire have been in the field for 169 overs in a row, having asked Kent to follow-on. It is starting to show.

Kyle Abbott is visibly tiring after bowling 38 of those overs, and the hope of victory is beginning to drain.

They've only managed to get one wicket in the first seven overs of the second new ball, despite some awkward stuff from Mo Abbas.

Handshakes are permitted from 16:20 BST...

Archie Vaughan concedes a single from his 22nd over but there's no alarms for the batters.

So Somerset skipper Lewis Gregory asks the umpires to take a look at the ball.

Well it's worth a try. Play on.

Hopefully Surrey will play exactly like this against us in the blast on Saturday.

  6. 50 runs

50 for Dom Sibleypublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 12 September

    Surrey 88-3 - target 221

Archie Vaughan is back after his brief respite.

Dom Sibley sweeps his first ball and takes a single which brings him his 43rd first-class fifty, off 165 balls.

It's not what you'd call bright cricket, but absolutely worth its weight in gold for Surrey.

An impressive show of resilience, concentration, discipline and technique to stave off everything the Somerset spinners could throw at them.

Dom Sibley angles the final ball of Brett Randell's second over down to the third man boundary for his fifth four.

He's one away from a very important fifty.

Lewis Gregory has seen enough from his quick men and brings Jack Leach back to replace Craig Overton.

No runs but no scares for Ben Foakes.

Meanwhile in the background, Tom Banton is spotted in the car park on crutches. No news of his MRI scan just yet.

    Fifteen scheduled overs left.

  8. Postpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 12 September

Mo Abbas is getting the ball to move in dangerously.

He goes up for a big appeal against Charlie Stobo.

That would have smashed into the middle of middle...had Stobo not hit the ball!

    The lead is 105.

Craig Overton beats the outside edge of Ben Foakes bat as the wicketkeeper thinks better of playing at it.

Foakes then picks up three with a shot of rare aggression.

The Somerset man hasn't taken it well and when Sibley defends the next ball, Overton picks up the rebound and shapes to hurl it back angrily at the stumps.

    Now, now.

  10. Postpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 12 September

    Kent 207 & 300-6 v Hampshire 403

    Kent's lead is over 100.

How many will Hampshire be happy to chase? There are 30 overs, minus two overs for the change over, left in the day.

    130 in 20 perhaps?

Charlie Stobo needs to change his bat and then the next ball gets a lucky inside edge to the boundary.

Well done to Ben Brown. By standing up to the stumps, it drew the Kent batters back into the crease and brought lbw back into the game.

Brett Randell into the attack and what must be a very rare occasion in this match we have pace at both ends.

Certainly the first time in this innings.

Dom Sibley nudges a single from the first ball and Ben Foakes looks to have all the time in the world to show some rock-solid defence.

Foakes then clips the final bal through the onside for two. He goes to 14 off 66 balls.

A minimum of 18 overs remain. Sorry, Somerset fans.

  13. wicket

WICKET Leaning lbw Abbas 100published at 15:49 British Summer Time 12 September

    Kent 207 & 287-6 v Hampshire 403

    Now then.

Jack Leaning doesn't add to his 100 as Mo Abbas thuds into his shin.

Abbas yells out in celebration as the new ball works.

Kent lead by 91 with 31.5 overs left today.

Dom Sibley takes a single off Craig Overton to move his stately innings to 42 from 156 balls.

Ben Foakes rather wafts at the next ball and almost gets an edge through to wicketkeeper James Rew.

One he should have left alone. Overton hasn't given this one up just yet, but you feel hopes are being steadily blunted.

The batters milk a single each from the last two balls as Sibley moves to within three of his fifty.

  15. 100 runs

100 for Jack Leaningpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 12 September

    Kent 207 & 286-5 v Hampshire 403

Jack Leaning doesn't get out between 50 and 100!

He has converted all three of his fifties to three figures this season, including both home and away against Hampshire.

This has been a very good innings, in highly testing conditions.

He reaches the milestone with a clip off the hip off his 160th ball.

    So nearly the breakthrough.

Jack Leach beats the outside edge yet again for no reward with another ball that Ben Foakes is forced to play.

Somerset skip Lewis Gregory, at fist slip, puts his hands to his face in exasperation.

    Dot-dot-dot-dot-dot-dot.

Hate it when pragmatism overrules an exciting chase for a chance to be 40-odd points ahead going into final two games. The Hollioake-led Surrey would’ve gone for it!

    Surrey 72-3 - target 221

A rainbow in the near-distance hints that more rain maybe on its way.

Somerset skipper Lewis Gregory tries a change of plan as Craig Overton comes in for just his fourth over of the innings and his 12th of the match.

Dom Sibley gets a thick outside edge to the third ball, but there's no pace in the pitch and it's safe enough. They run through for two to move on to 41.

Now then. Overton gets some sharp movement off the seam and beats Sibley's outside edge. Encouragement.

James Vince doesn't bowl very often any more.

His first delivery shows why...he hides the ball in his run-up and then bowls a long hop. Not sure what the mystery was there!

He used to bowl quite sharpish but this is a trundle.

Just four from the over and Hampshire have got to the second new ball.

    Super length, Jack Leach.

Ben Foakes doesn't know whether to go forward or back to the third ball of the England spinner's 23rd over.

He hangs back and comes so close to edging it. Phew.

A 13th maiden for Leach. But no more wickets. Unlucky.
