  1. Final day under way at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 212-6 (f-o)

How much resistance can Jack Haynes and Lyndon James provide against the Durham attack with the nearly-new ball?

We’re about to find out. The early morning sunshine is already giving way to cloud cover.

Haynes to start all over again on 59 not out. He faces the spin of Callum Parkinson.

  2. Play under way at Worcesterpublished at 10:59 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Worcs 447 v Kent 171 & 353-8

James Hartshorn will start things off with some unfinished business, namely his 16th over.

He brought play to a close last evening by dismissing double-centurion Tawanda Muyeye with its fourth ball.

Next man in Alfie Ogborne will take strike for his first ball trying to avoid picking up a pair. Two dots to start.

Tom Taylor is on at the other end.

How many more can the Kent tail eke out this morning?

If Lancashire can bat through today, save the match and head home with their fifth draw of the season it would give them huge boost heading into the final four games as they look to steer clear relegation.

Two of their most experienced players are resuming this morning, in Keaton Jennings and Josh Bohannon, and much will depend on this partnership.

With 16-year-old Rocky Flintoff due in next, and three of the next four batters all under 23, if the Red Rose avoid defeat, it will probably represent their best day of the season so far.

  5. Yorkshire hope to avoid Hove repeatpublished at 10:51 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Yorks 326 & 28-2 v Sussex 189 & 239

Yorkshire will be taking nothing for granted as they look to close to within nine points of Division Two leaders Sussex by knocking off the 75 runs they need on the final day in Scarborough.

Set a target of 103 after Ben Coad took five wickets to help bowl Sussex out for 239, they lost Finlay Bean and Jordan Thompson in 10 overs before the close.

Victory would be Yorkshire's third in a row in the Championship and should move them up to second in the table, with Middlesex's game at rainy Northwood seemingly headed for a draw.

But Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace said: "If you remember at Hove, Yorkshire needed 25 or 26 with four wickets to go and Lythy (Adam Lyth) going nicely on 80 and we won the game - so it's never over."

  6. Will Durham beat the weather?published at 10:48 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Durham 531-7 dec v Notts 229 & 212-6 (f/o)

Durham will have one eye on the weather as they look to complete their third Division One win of the campaign.

The hosts need to take just four wickets, while Nottinghamshire require another 90 runs just to avoid an innings defeat.

But the early afternoon forecast is murky, to say the least, with heavy rain predicted to arrive soon after lunch, followed by lighter rain and further showers up to the close.

The fact the game has continued into the final day owes much to the stalwart efforts of Jack Haynes and Matt Montgomery with a fifth-wicket stand which put on 96 in 50 somewhat turgid overs.

Nottinghamshire's chances of escaping with a seventh draw of the season now rest chiefly on the shoulders of Haynes - who resumes his marathon 160-ball innings on 59 this morning - and Lyndon James (8 not out) who made a first innings fifty.

The bad news for them is the rested Durham attack will resume with a ball which is just seven overs old.

Alex Davies now has four Championship hundreds in 2024

Warwickshire all-rounder Jacob Bethell believes timing a declaration right may be key to their chances of victory over second-placed Somerset at Edgbaston.

The Bears lead by 277, with skipper Alex Davies 109 not out, as they look to move themselves further away from the relegation places.

"We're still not in a bad position - we've got a decision to make on what we do tomorrow morning," Bethell told BBC CWR at close of play on day three.

"To lose myself and Barny (Ed Barnard) in quick succession made the last half an hour of play was a bit docile - if we could have got 30 extra runs there, maybe we wouldn't have to bat as long to set up a score."

  8. Muyeye on 'love-hate relationship' with cricketpublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

Kent opener Tawanda Muyeye believes he has grown up as a batsman at New Road after hitting a career-best 211 on the third day against Worcestershire.

The bottom-of-the-table visitors are facing the prospect of another defeat, just 77 ahead with two wickets standing, but Muyeye's performance - following on from his first-innings half-century - again underlined his immense promise.

"Cricket's a tough game - I hate it sometimes, and I love it a lot of the time, and to have one of those days where everything goes your way is great," Muyeye told BBC Radio Kent.

"At some stage I needed to grow up, be responsible and not be there for a good time, be there for a long time as well. For me, cricket has always been fun and about entertaining people."

There are two ways today can go...it can either take a place in County Championship folklore, or everyone shakes hands at 16:50 BST.

Quite simply, Essex need 19 wickets to make this anything other than a draw.

And if there was one team in the country that could take 19 wickets in 96 overs, it is one blessed with Sam Cook, Jamie Porter, Simon Harmer and co.

As Porter told BBC Radio Essex: "It is going to take something special but it wouldn't be the first time we have done something special to get a win."

  10. Derbyshire willing to 'be patient' for winpublished at 10:36 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Derbys 429 v Glamorgan 168 & 236-7

Derbyshire are aiming to clean up Glamorgan's tail on the final morning as they look to seal a first win in 26 Championship matches.

Kiran Carlson and Colin Ingram scored half-centuries as the Welsh county moved to within 25 runs of avoiding an innings defeat - having lost only once so far this season.

"We had a lot of runs to work with, we were beating the bat and creating chances, sometimes you have to stay patient and we had a nice balance of bowlers," spinner Jack Morley, who took 3-35, told BBC Radio Derby.

“Derbyshire haven’t had a win at home in a while, there’s just one over to the new ball and hopefully we can wrap it up quickly, but if not we’ll stay patient.”

Marginally better than yesterday, so let's hope there won't be too many interruptions.

An idyllic scene for the final day of Middlesex v Northants

We've had quite a bit of rain over the past three days - and there may be more to come (hope not!) - but intriguing finishes are in store in several of our nine County Championship matches.

There are only four rounds to go after this one, so title favourites Surrey will want to capitalise on a strong position against Lancashire as they only have one more home game this season.

And Yorkshire hope to put one over on Sussex after being on the wrong end of a tight finish down south earlier in the campaign.

Welcome to our coverage. Play is scheduled to begin at 11:00.
