  1. Postpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Warks 337 & 270 v Somerset 239 & 144-3

Little respite for Michael Rae who has his headband back on after a switch to the Birmingham End.

Two singles for Tom Abell take him to 32, while Tom Banton goes to 11. Those are the headlines from a quiet over.

  2. 100 runs

103 lead for Northantspublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Middlesex 264 Northants 207 & 160-8

    All outcomes remain possible here.

The lead is into three figures, there is probably enough light and certainly enough overs left in the day and Middlesex would definitely have a go at a short chase.

They have to get these last two wickets though.

  3. Postpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Warks 337 & 270 v Somerset 239 & 141-3

Tom Banton pulls Ed Barnard through midwicket for his first boundary.

For good measure he then drives Barnard through the covers and to the boundary in front of an almost deserted Hollies Stand.

Michael Rae moves towards his mark, but is sent back to his fielding position.

Skip Alex Davies calls for the slow left-arm of Jacob Bethell.

Three singles and a couple of byes come from it.

  4. Bad light stops play in Bristolpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Glos 544-4 dec v Leics 402 & 304-5

    Louis KimberImage source, Rex Features

With one over to go before the new ball, umpires Jack Shantry and Surendiran Shanmugam decide the light isn't good enough to play on.

Peter Handscomb is 63 not out, Louis Kimber has 38 and Leicestershire lead by 162.

This sixth-wicket partnership is currently worth 61.

  5. wicket

WICKET: Sanderson c Stoneman b Brookes 2published at 16:16 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Middlesex 264 Northants 207 & 153-8

Middlesex just two wickets away now with the lead 96.

Not a great shot from the Northants man, a leading edge bobbing up to Mark Stoneman at cover.

Another couple and the hosts will be fancy their chances of a run chase for the victory.

  6. 50 runs

partnership between Prest and Brownpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Hants 306-3 v Essex 438-8d

Ben Brown and Tom Prest have simply had to put bat on ball in this partnership, such is the easy nature of the pitch.

Essex think they've had Brown run out coming back for a second - which also ticked over the fifty stand - but the finger does not go up. That's the first half-scare Brown's had today.

Hampshire are also up to two batting points, to go with their two bonus points from bowling.

  7. Postpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Glos 544-4 dec v Leics 402 & 300-5

Ollie Price continues and his first ball is put away with a reverse sweep by Louis Kimber, who is 36 not out.

Peter Handscomb flicks Dom Goodman for a single and the 300 comes up.

  8. wicket

WICKET Lammonby c Bethell b Rae 35published at 16:13 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Warks 337 & 270 v Somerset 239 & 127-3

The trap is set and Tom Lammonby falls in.

Michael Rae continues to fire the ball in short down the legside and Lammonby flicks it straight to the waiting Jacob Bethell.

That flurry of excitement is over. New Tom, please.

Banton comes to the crease to join Abell.

  9. 50 runs

50 partnershippublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Warks 337 & 270 v Somerset 239 & 127-2

Ed Barnard returns to the attack.

Tom Abell flicks one off his hip and they race back for two and that's the fifty partnership with Tom Lammonby, brought up off a brisk 56 balls in just 34 minutes.

The pair trade singles as six more runs are added.

Just the 242 runs needed at a required rate of 7.3.

  10. The final session begins at Edgbastonpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Warks 337 & 270 v Somerset 239 & 121-2

Michal Rae to get things going after tea with Warwickshire hunting wickets.

He again aims down the legside to Tom Lammonby who accepts the challenge, swivelling and guiding it past gully for four.

Rae repeats the trick, dropping it short outside leg and Lammonby pulls it all the way over the fielder at long leg for six!

Two more off the final ball and that's 12 from the over.

    They can't be, can they?

  11. Back under way at Utilita Bowlpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Hants 298-3 v Essex 438-8d

    One session more.

How many more bonus points can be pilfered in this one innings-a-side match? Hampshire are on the brink of their next point.

Tom Prest opens up the session by nudging a single into the off side.

  12. Postpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Glos 544-4 dec v Leics 402 & 286-6

Final session in Bristol and Peter Handscomb is immediately under way with a single off Ollie Price - 55 not out now.

There are five overs to go to the new ball after this one, by the way.

  14. Tea at Northwoodpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Middlesex 264 Northants 207 & 142-7

Toby Roland-Jones celebrates another wicketImage source, Rex Features

This has been a captain's contribution from Toby Roland-Jones who now has nine wickets in the match and has just reignited hopes of a win on the stroke of tea.

Northants lead is up to 85 with 39 overs left in the tank but Roland-Jones's 4-64 and some sharp catching from Middlesex must make them slight favourites now.

Assuming they can nip out the tail and set themselves a target not much over three figures, we could be set for a decent conclusion to this match.

  15. Tea at Edgbastonpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Warks 337 & 270 v Somerset 239 & 109-2

Rob Yates overpitches with the final ball of the session and Tom Abell helps it on its way, driving it through extra cover for four.

It takes him to 24, off 27 balls, and the partnership with Tom Lammonby (21) to 35.

Somerset go into tea a 'mere' 260 from victory with 35 overs. Conversely, the Bears need eight wickets.

Neither seems terribly realistic at present.

    But you just never know.

  16. Tea at Utilita Bowlpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Hants 297-3 v Essex 438-8d

A session which will live long in the memories of Tom Prest and Toby Albert.

But probably not many others, if the truth be told.

Both batted exceptionally well for their hundreds and to get Hampshire past the follow-on target.

Essex only managed to dismiss Prest - a top-edged reverse sweep - as the pitch got harder and harder to extract anything out of, even with the second new ball.

  17. Tea at Bristolpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Glos 544-4 dec v Leics 402 & 286-5

Gloucestershire call up Chris Dent to bowl some left-arm spin in the over before tea.

It's respectable enough as Leicestershire add four singles and go in for their sandwiches with a lead of 144.

As we said earlier, barring a clatter of wickets, it's looking like a draw in this game.

Peter Handscomb is 54 not out and Rishi Patel (75) and Ian Holland (56) shared a first-wicket stand of 142 at the start of the innings.

  18. wicket

    WICKET: McManus c Helm b Roland-Jones 24published at 15:42 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Middlesex 264 Northants 207 & 142-7

With the final ball before tea Toby Roland-Jones gets a massive wicket.

Middlesex were starting to slump a little with Lewis McManus and Justin Broad denying them sight of the tail.

But Tom Helm has pulled off a diving catch in the cordon to send them to the cakes with a massive spring in their step.

  19. 100 runs

100 up for Somersetpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Warks 337 & 270 v Somerset 239 & 102-2

Tom Lammonby pulls Michael Rae in front of square but is kept down to two by a sliding Dan Mousley.

The shot takes Somerset to three figures as the visitors see off another over in what looks likely to be the pursuit of eight points for a draw.

Warwickshire need to start making things happen with the ball, and soon, if they are to revive their hopes of a win.

  20. 100 runs

for Tom Prestpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Hants 294-3 v Essex 438-8d

A majestic hundred for Tom Prest.

The third of his embryonic Championship career and his second against Essex.

WIth the pressure largely off now, this is a good chance to beat his previous best of 208 and go very big.
