    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancs 189 & 169-7

"A big black cloud is on it's way," says BBC 5 Live Sports Extra's Kevin Howells as Conor McKerr comes in for another over.

We were going to say that Tom Hartley and Tom Aspinwall don't seem in a lot of trouble at the moment, but that would be tempting fate........

    Hants 218-2 v Essex 438-8d

There are six overs until the second new ball is due.

But that doesn't stop the old ball from failing the gauge tests and needing to be replaced.

As always happens in this situation, the umpires fondle every ball in the box before eventually picking one.

Tom Prest worries not about what the ball looks like as he whacks the fourth ball of Matt Critchley's over down the ground before the final delivery is carted for six! Prest up to 78.

    Middlesex 264 Northants 207 & 104-6

Big swing and grabbed at second slip.

That hooped away from Rob Keogh's bat, Tom Helm with his second wicket, and Northants are struggling now.

The lead is 47 and the tail is very visible for the hosts.

    Worcs 81-2 v Kent - target 101

The Pears continue to chip away with a Rob Jones single and a leg bye off George Garrett's seventh over.

Joey Evison is into the attack for Kent and Kashif Ali drives him beautifully for four past mid-on. A single takes him to 38.

Nice timing earns a fifth four for Kashif Ali with a clip through midwicket which trickles through the damp outfield to the rope.

Alfie Ogborne then goes round the wicket and thuds one into the batter's arm.

But the 21-year-old then offers Kashif too much width and he takes full advantage by cutting past the man at gully for a second boundary of the innings.

The runs required are down to 28.

for Toby Albertpublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

Did you know both of Toby Albert's parents were Olympic equestrians (for Jamaica and Sweden, obviously!)?

Well, this has been a gold medal-worthy innings.

A slap through the covers and then a cutted single take him to three figures. He pumps his fists in celebration before raising his bat.

It is his second Championship century, both this season.

  7. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Warwickshire 337 & 270 v Somerset 238 & 37-0

Difficult one but Alex Davies misjudged that, spilling it at mid off after initially looking favourite.

Andy Umeed gets a life on 13 and, for good measure, launches Chris Rushworth for a maximum on the sixth ball of the over.

    Salt. Wound. Rub.

    Glos 544-4 dec v Leics 402 & 226-4

Peter Handscomb pulls a ball from Dom Goodman for four to end the latest over at Bristol as Leicestershire extend their lead to 84 with six wickets remaining.

Handscomb is 30 not out and Rehan Ahmed has 18.

    Hants 207-2 v Essex 438-8d

Shane Snater has taken over the short ball ploy.

Like Paul Walter's attempts, it isn't causing Tom Prest or Toby Albert an ounce of trouble.

Snater is trying to go shorter and shorter and in the end bowls into the pitch about a yard from his own feet to balloon over Prest's head for a rather comical no ball.

    Worcs 65-2 v Kent - target 101

Rob Jones plays George Garrett off the back foot into the leg side for two.

Ooof! Jones then fends at a ball that lifts from Garrett.

He breathes a sigh of relief as it narrowly evades his outside edge through to wicketkeeper Harry Finch.

    Thirty-six to win.

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancs 204 & 158-7

    Would you believe it.

Matty Hurst has batted so well and that is an innocuous delivery by Conor McKerr to start a new spell - but he clips it straight to Ryan Patel at mid-wicket.

He can't believe what he has just done.

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancs 204 & 157-6

Tom Hartley is not willing to just block against Will Jacks.

He hammers him for six over mid-on and progresses to 18 not out.

Conor McKerr will replace Sam Curran at the opposite end.

    Worcs 63-2 v Kent - target 101

Left armer Alfie Ogborne joins the attack around the wicket to Rob Jones.

His second ball is a touch too straight and Jones turns it into the leg side for two.

Over the wicket, Ogborne pitches it up and Jones plays and misses. He's lucky not to get a tickle on that.

Jones milks a single and Kashif Ali caps the over in style by cutting the ball past the two slips for his fourth boundary.

    Just 38 runs required.

A leg glance for a single gets Rob Jones up and running after lunch.

Kashif Ali looks to get on with it and takes a rather wild waft at his second ball after the resumption.

Fortunately for him it misses the edge and is through to wicketkeeper Harry Finch.

One from the over - 45 runs to go.

Change of tactic by Surrey as off-spinner Will Jacks comes into the attack for the first time in the game.

It's his first bowl of the year in a red-ball game and he makes a good start, giving up only a single to Matty Hurst, who has 57.

Hint of swing and Roland-Jones strikes again.

A touch more than a hint to be fair to Prithvi Shaw whose off stump is knocked back with a beauty.

Swing so late it had almost passed his bat before darting back in.

Two young Hampshire batters going about their work nicely.

They have made sure there have been no worries about a collapse, and have got their side within 100 runs of avoiding the follow-on.

Yorkshire put themselves right in the promotion mix this morning with a four-wicket win over Division Two leaders Sussex at Scarborough.

It was the third win in a row for head coach Ottis Gibson's side - and only the second defeat of the season for Sussex.

"To get across the line was an amazing feeling," Gibson told BBC West Yorkshire Sport.

"I think it was won with endeavour from all the players, especially the bowlers - our bowling effort across the two innings was absolutely fantastic. At no stage of the game did they get away from us, even when they built partnerships."
