    What a shot!

Matty Hurst sets himself for a big hit over leg and he absolutely nails it. Six!

    He's on to 98.

Big turn and bounce for Zafar Gohar from the footmarks at the other end. Karun Nair, though, keeps his hands high and survives.

He is 46 not out and George Bartlett has33. These two have so far added 64 for the fifth wicket.

  4. 6 runs

Postpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 13 May

    Notts 503 v Lancashire 331 & 234-9

That's a third of the 18 runs Matty Hurst needs!

A huge six over midwicket off Olly Stone.

And four more of them as Stone goes for a yorker and it turns into a low full toss that Hurst whips away to the boundary at deep square.

    Hurst is now on 92.

Matty Hurst needs 18 for a maiden century and now has Saqib Mahmood for company.

Mahmood plays out the rest of Calvin Harrison's over.

    Over to Hurst.

  7. Postpublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 13 May

    Kent 407 & 30-2 v Worcestershire 618-7 dec

Joe Denly survives a big lbw shout from Ben Gibbon as Kent continue to wobble.

Four wickets have fallen today, they only have eight more at their disposal.

  8. wicket

WICKET Williams lbw b Harrison 8published at 14:06 British Summer Time 13 May

    Notts 503 v Lancashire 331 & 224-9

    Leggie versus tailender. Leggie wins.

Calvin Harrison to Will Williams. The batter goes back when he should go forward and is hit on the pads.

It was definitely hitting the stumps, but was it pitching outside leg?

It doesn't matter - the decision is out.

Harry: "Zak Crawley can't score in County Cricket but still bullet proof for England. Failure after failure. Imagine if the same persistent opportunity was given to Haseeb Hameed. English Cricket is rigged with favouritism just cz his face fits. Hameed > Crawley."

Ouch. Granted Zak C hasn't made 'the big runs' for Kent in the games he has been allowed to play so far this season, but neither had Hameed before the current game.

  10. 'Very smart innings from Hurst'published at 14:00 British Summer Time 13 May

    Notts 503 v Lancashire 331 & 221-8

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

Matty Hurst has played really well, it's a very smart innings this from him.

Last night and today with Tom Hartley last night as well, because it could have got quite ugly that for Lancashire and they managed to find a way to stop it doing that.

They've managed to get a response in their second innings from a position where they could have been blown away for less than 100.

  11. Postpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 13 May

    Hampshire 503 & 41-2 v Durham

Hampshire have added seven runs in the 20 minutes since lunch.

The small group of spectators at Utilita Bowl need great credit for sticking with this one.

  12. wicket

WICKET: Compton c Roderick b Gibbon 11published at 13:58 British Summer Time 13 May

    Kent 407 & 22-2 v Worcestershire 618-7 dec

    Kent are two down.

Ben Gibbon's first ball strangles Ben Compton down the leg side as Gareth Roderick takes another good catch low to his right. Compton is furious and rips his helmet off as he stomps back to the pavilion. Even bad balls can get good wickets.

Kent still 189 short of making Worcestershire bat again.

Joe Denly comes in ahead of Jack Leaning. And is on a pair... but not for long, a glorious cover drive from his first delivery finds the ropes.

Meat and drink for a man of his class. How Kent need him to linger here.

  13. Career best for Hurstpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 13 May

    Notts 503 v Lancashire 331 & 219-8

Another cracking pull shot from Matty Hurst, this time off Olly Stone brings him four runs and takes him to 76.

A single from another hook shot of the final ball of the over takes him to 77.

    That is a career-best first-class for the 20-year-old.

Can he make it to a maiden century?

  14. Postpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 13 May

    Northants 171 & 233-4 v Gloucestershire 409 & 319-5 dec

Another quick physio check on Karun Nair - presumably a safety first approach to monitoring for any hints of concussion after that bouncer struck him.

    He and we will continue...

  15. 200 runs

200 up for Lancashirepublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 13 May

    Notts 503 v Lancashire 331 & 214-8

Positive stuff from Lancashire since the interval.

Two off Olly Stone brings the total up to 200.

Then a very forceful pull from Matty Hurst takes him to 70 not out.

In the next over, Will Williams gets off the mark with one down to the third man fence.

That may have been a bit fortunate but there is nothing lucky about this one as he puts a half-volley away through the legside for a second four in the over.

  16. Postpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 13 May

    Northants 171 & 228-4 v Gloucestershire 409 & 319-5 dec

George Bartlett somehow evades another short one from Marchant de Lange who has opened the session from the other end from Zafar Gohar.

So close to a second helmet strike in two overs against the big South African paceman but the Northants man just dipped and turned his head at the last second.

Going to be a test of mettle as well as batting this afternoon, you'd expect, especially with a new ball available in six overs or so.

  17. 'A difficult start for Lancashire'published at 13:46 British Summer Time 13 May

    Nottinghamshire 503 v Lancashire 331 & 198-8

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

The opening month of the season has been difficult one for Lancashire, bottom of Division One and looking at a third defeat in five games.

If they lose at Trent Bridge it would be a third successive championship defeat, they're worst sequence of defeats since 2001.

One bright hope at the start of this season is Matty Hurst, a gusty looking cricketer, he has plenty of shots but looks equally capable in defence. His second half century in as many games, its four in his first 10 Championship innings.

  18. Postpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 13 May

    Northants 226-4 - target 558

Karun Nair clearly hasn't suffered any after-effects from that bang on the 'lid' just before lunch.

He's out there to resume his innings at Wantage Road and is soon on strike as George Bartlett helps himself to a single.

There's an lbw shout from Zafar Gohar, but the India batter survives,

After today, there are just eight more days of County Championship cricket remaining before the competition is put into hibernation until 23 June to accommodate the T20 Blast. The next two rounds, though, will be full ones with nine matches in each, so we hope you'll join us from 17-20 and 24-27 May to follow all the action.
