    Sussex 204 & 261 v Essex 504

    Victoria Polley
    BBC Essex Sports Editor

They have got it! And Michael Pepper has been hit in the process, he has taken his helmet off and he looks in some pain - that has rather dampened these celebrations.

That one looked painful for Pepper and that was a much-needed win for Essex in the County Championship.

A second and much needed County Championship win of the season for Essex.

Henry Crocombe misses a straight one and is bowled by Matt Critchley.

Wicketkeeper Michael Pepper is hit painfully in the chest by the ball as it ricochets off the stumps but he's okay.

Four wickets for Critchley to go with his century.

    Bartlett c Roland-Jones b Helm 9 (Middlesex 625-8 dec v Northants 261 & 75-5)

75-4 becomes 75-5 as George Bartlett is caught by Toby Roland-Jones off Tom Helm.

Remember Northants are following-on here and are still 289 runs behind Middlesex.

They are mainly playing for pride now with Saif Zaib and Rob Keogh out in the middle.

  4. wicket

    Coles c Porter b Harmer 108 (Sussex 204 & 261-9 v Essex 504)

The end is nigh for Sussex.

James Coles goes on the sweep and top edges the ball to Jamie Porter who takes a simple catch a mid wicket to give Simon Harmer his second wicket

  5. Postpublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 25 July

    Sussex 204 & 260-8 v Essex 504

Five bonus penalty runs for Sussex.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 25 July

    McManus b Roland-Jones 30 (Middlesex 625-8 dec v Northants 261 & 75-4)

Middlesex take their first scalp of the morning as Toby Roland-Jones accounts for Lewis McManus.

The Northants batter had dispatched a nice four through the covers with the previous ball but is in two minds on the next delivery and when he decides to pull out of the shot and leave it it's too late and he diverts the ball onto his own stumps.

  7. Postpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 25 July

    Glamorgan 327 & 34-2 v Kent 155 & 360 - Glamorgan target 189

Glamorgan's run chase is under way in Cardiff, they need to reach 189 to beat Kent.

They lost a couple of late wickets last night which added a little extra spice to proceedings as Kent go hunting for more this morning.

Kiran Carlson and nightwatchman James Harris are at the crease.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 25 July

    Patel c Lyth b White 92 (Yorks 516-7d v Surrey 346-5)

Ryan Patel pulled a few balls onto the terraces yesterday and strikes a third six to move into the 90s.

But Jack White then has his man with a full ball that Patel goes to drive but doesn't get it right at all and lobs a catch up to mid-off.

He misses out on a century and a start for Yorkshire.

He's hit two centuries, a 50 and 47 in his four innings for Hampshire so far and now Tilak Varma has revealed he could be in for a longer stay on the south coast.

The Indian batsman has certainly made a big impression and he's told BBC Radio Solent he could be staying for the One Day Cup campaign as well.

"I'll find out in the next couple of days if I'll be playing in it or not," said Varma

"I need to speak to the BCCI. I think what we had scheduled in August has been pushed for September. If there is no schedule, then I'll be there."

  10. 'The best batting conditions of the match'published at 11:10 British Summer Time 25 July

    Warks 184 & 62-2 v Worcs 333 & 243

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM commentator

It is the fourth and final morning of this County Championship derby match and we have got the best batting conditions of the match so far, with bright sunshine.

Warwickshire are facing a very tall chase and would be looking at one of the highest targets they have ever reached, if they were to beat Worcestershire.

393 is the requirement and they have already got some early runs and with the short boundary in play it is possible if they can keep enough wickets in hand.

  11. 250 runs

250 up for Sussexpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 25 July

    Sussex 204 & 251-8 v Essex 504

We're into a bit of cat and mouse now.

Essex are setting the field back to give James Coles a single if he wants one.

He's batting with Henry Crocombe - the number 10 - so he's not taking the invitation.

    Sussex bring up the 250.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 25 July

    Jack lbw Tongue 2 (Hants 370-7 v Notts 578-8d)

    Josh Tongue strikes.

The England man went wicketless yesterday but he traps Eddie Jack early on day four.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 25 July

    Karvelas c Pepper b Harmer 4 (Sussx 204 & 249-7 v Essex 504)

    Essex get an early one.

Simon Harmer bowls one down the leg side and Ari Karvelas follows it to get a thin tickle to Michael Pepper behind the stumps.

Bright sunshine at Hove - the weather is not going to save the home side.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 25 July

    Bancroft c Wells b Anderson 35 (Glos 381 & 99-1 v Lancs 557)

James Anderson strikes fourth ball of the morning!

And he had his old Aussie adversary Cameron Bancroft for the second time in the game.

Not Jimmy's finest delivery but a total miscue from Bancroft as he goes to turn a full, straight delivery to leg and gets a leading edge to midwicket.

    Perfect start for Lancashire.

  15. 100 for James Colespublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 25 July

James Coles follows-up his first innings 50 with a century second time around.

It's a seventh championship century for Coles who gets there from 193 balls with 14 fours and one six.

He has been standing on a burning deck since tea yesterday.

  17. Division Two latestpublished at 10:59 British Summer Time 25 July

    #bbccricket

Leicestershire need just six more wickets to see-off Derbyshire and take a stranglehold on top spot in Division Two.

We could be in for a tight finish at Cardiff where Glamorgan need a further 164 runs to beat Kent and the visitors require eight wickets.

Middlesex are in charge against Northamptonshire at Northwood with the visitors already three down in their second innings and 300 runs adrift of making the home side bat again.

  18. Can Glos keep out Lancs?published at 10:58 British Summer Time 25 July

    Glos 381 & 98-0 f/o v Lancs 557

It's looking like the best day of the Cheltenham festival so far with a glorious forecast and what could be a gripping day in prospect.

Tom Hartley's best Lancashire figures - following a maiden first-class century - helped the visitors enforce the follow-on yesterday but The Shire got through 30 overs of their second innings unscathed.

Plenty more batting to do though for the home side. It will take at least two sessions to make the game safe as they resume still 78 behind at the College.

  19. Essex on the verge of victorypublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 25 July

    Sussex 204 & 245-7 v Essex 504

James Coles hits a boundary for SussexImage source, rex

Essex seem set to complete only their second win of the four-day season.

They need three wickets while Sussex require a further 55 runs just to make the visitors bat again.

James Coles is still there on 99 not out having shared a 141-run partnership with Tom Alsop for the third wicket.

"It was nice to spend some time out there, especially with Colesy who is batting brilliantly again but the game has not gone the way we wanted it to from day one," said Alsop.

"It's very difficult to drag yourself back into the game from the position we were in, especially against a team of Essex's quality.

"We've been on the other side of that in a few games this season and we shouldn't forget that but against quality teams once you are behind it's quite difficult to wrestle it back."

  20. Pears to win?published at 10:54 British Summer Time 25 July

    Warks 55-2 - target 393 v Worcs

We haven't said 'Worcestershire on course for victory' really at all this season. Just the one victory for the division's bottom side.

But eight more wickets will get their survival bid going again and they have 337 to defend.

Warwickshire lost two cheap ones last night but may feel this target is within them. But they will need a much better showing than their sorry effort in the first innings that put them in the mire.

Could be the game of the day at Edgbaston.
