  1. Postpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time

    Essex 255-9 v Yorks (6 overs remaining)

Six fielders around the bat as Dan Moriarty bowls to Simon Harmer.

Harmer looks unruffled as he plays out five dot balls, then drives the last into the covers to try and keep the strike.

It's a bit of a scramble for non-striker Jamie Porter to get home, but he dives in amid a cloud of dust and Essex survive. For now.

  2. Postpublished at 17:29 British Summer Time

    Essex 254-9 v Yorks (7 overs remaining)

George Hill's been brought back to try and finish this game off - and complete a 10-wicket haul at the same time - but he won't do it in this over.

Simon Harmer takes three runs off Hill, leaving last man Jamie Porter to survive one ball - which he does.

  3. 'The game is on the brink'published at 17:28 British Summer Time

    Essex 123 & 253-9 v Yorks 216 & 426-6 dec

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

The game is on the brink and that ball was just through the gate, there is no two ways about it, Yorkshire just got one through.

Essex have tried their best all day to challenge the stumps and keep themselves in play and keep their opponents playing when they would be quite happy not to.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time

    Rajitha b Moriarty 21 (Essex 252-9 - 8.5 overs remaining)

Kasun Rajitha is bowled as Dan Moriarty squeezes one between bat and pad!

    One wicket needed for Yorkshire...

    Essex 123 & 242-8 v Yorks 216 & 426-6 dec

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

Dom Bess is up to bowl and think we know what's coming.

We are going to see fielders dotted around the bat in the hope of a push from the batter and a catch from one of the fielders.

  6. Postpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time

Essex 242-8 v Yorks (min 6 overs remaining)

Jonny Bairstow is really ringing the changes in terms of bowling options - it looked as though he'd settled on entrusting this to the spinners, but then he hands the ball back to seamer Matthew Revis.

The tactic from Revis, as it has been for most of this game, is to pitch the ball short while varying his angle.

For now, Simon Harmer and Kasun Rajitha are standing firm and the Sri Lankan isn't afraid to go for a shot when the opportunity's there. he pulls Dom Bess for a couple before guiding him past slip to the boundary.

  7. 'Yorkshire need two deliveries'published at 17:12 British Summer Time

    Essex 123 & 235-8 v Yorks 216 & 426-6 dec

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

Essex are continuing to try and block it and Yorkshire are needing two successful wicket taking deliveries.

  8. Postpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time

Essex 235-8 v Yorks (min 8 overs remaining)

It looks as though Yorkshire have decided spin is their best route to closing out this game, with Dom Bess and Dan Moriarty now operating in tandem again.

There are five close fielders crowding Simon Harmer as he defends solidly against Bess, who chalks up another maiden.

  9. Postpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time

Essex 233-8 v Yorks (min 10 overs remaining)

Left-arm spinner Dan Moriarty is back on but his first over is an expensive one, with Kasun Rajitha punching him off the back foot for a couple and then drilling one to the rope at deep extra cover.

At the other end, Jack White finds the edge of Simon Harmer's bat, but the ball flies beyond the slips and brings Essex another four runs.

    At least 10 overs left.

  10. Postpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time

Essex 219-8 v Yorks (min 12 overs remaining)

Jack White is seeking his first five-wicket return in Yorkshire colours and he's got four so far this innings.

It looks like a golden opportunity for White to achieve that goal, but he'll have to be patient as Simon Harmer plays out a maiden.

  11. Postpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time

    Essex 219-8 v Yorks (13 overs remaining)

Kasun Rajitha has handled the pressure well so far, taking his fair share of the strike although Simon Harmer is certainly the senior of the two out there in batting terms.

Rajitha unfurls a lovely cover drive off Dom Bess which brings him a couple of runs, then plays out another over.

  12. Postpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time

    Essex 217-8 (target 520) v Yorks

Simon Harmer drives Jack White for a cover boundary, but that matters little at this stage, other than denting the bowler's figures.

Runs have never been an issue today - it's all about wickets and, after taking none in all but two sessions, Yorkshire have grabbed four of them in next to no time.

We have a minimum of 15 overs left for Essex to try and hold on.

  13. 'The lack of runs creating pressure'published at 16:48 British Summer Time

    Essex 123 & 217-8 v Yorks 216 & 426-6 dec

    Victoria Polley
    BBC Essex Sports Editor

The balance of getting through the balls and seeing overs out and defending. But also the lack of runs creating pressure for the bowlers who are batting.

They are trying to find those edges and make them play, and Shane Snater was forced into it on that occasion.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time

    Snater lbw b White 0 (Essex 212-8 - target 520) v Yorks

No runs for Shane Snater - and now he's on his way as well!

Snater is trapped in front of the stumps by Jack White, who collects his fourth wicket.

Yorkshire need just two more as Kasun Rajitha comes out to the middle.

  15. 'An enthralling game of cricket'published at 16:43 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 313 all out

    Dave Bradley
    Cricket commentator

It was an enthralling game of cricket. Ollie Robinson wheels away with his arms in the air.

The Sussex fielders race in and celebrate, whilst Ben Gibbon goes up to his partner Tom Taylor and they will begin to wander off.

Worcestershire will be gutted considering how close they got. I suspect the dismissal of Jake Libby for 167 was the turning point in the day.

  16. Round seven fixturespublished at 16:41 British Summer Time

As we head into the final overs at Chelmsford, here's a list of the next round of Championship fixtures, which begin on Friday:

    Division One

    Riverside: Durham v Nottinghamshire

    Taunton: Somerset v Sussex

    The Oval: Surrey v Yorkshire

    Edgbaston: Warwickshire v Hampshire

    Worcester: Worcestershire v Essex

    Division Two

    Cardiff; Glamorgan v Northamptonshire

    Bristol: Gloucestershire v Kent

    Old Trafford: Lancashire v Derbyshire

    Lord's: Middlesex v Leicestershire

  17. Postpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time

    Essex 212-7 (target 520) v Yorks

Shane Snater has faced 30 balls so far and is yet to get off the mark.

Essex won't care if he remains without a run, as long as he can keep the Yorkshire bowlers at bay for another 18 overs or so.

Jack White, whose three-wicket burst last night put Yorkshire in prime position for a victory today, is back on and tests Snater with a beauty that whizzes past his outside edge.

  18. wicket

SUSSEX BEAT WORCS BY 47 RUNSpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time

Gibbon b Robinson 0 (Worcs 313 all out)

Ollie Robinson ends it by uprooting Ben Gibbon's off stump.

Too good for a No 11 and a fitting end for the former England man who has battled through pain to put in a real shift here.

It is a second win of the season for Sussex but that has been a very good game from both of these two sides.

Worcs remain winless but can take a huge amount of positives from defeat, not least of which the performances of Tom Taylor with the ball and Jake Libby with the bat.

His 167 got Worcs to within, if not touching distance, then clear sight of a victory.

Yet it was the fall of his wicket, Fynn Hudson-Prentice doing the honours as he took his seventh wicket in the match, which proved the turning point.

A cracking fixture played in great spirits, in glorious unbroken sunshine and one which went down to the final session. Perfect.

  19. 'You can hear the cheers around the ground'published at 16:37 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 313-9

    Dave Bradley
    Cricket commentator

You can hear the cheers from around the ground after that wicket.

Tom Haines got underneath it, Fateh Singh went for it and the fielder was there ready for that shot.

Singh might be a bit disappointed with that one.

  20. Postpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time

    Essex 207-7 (target 520) v Yorks

George Hill's career-best match figures are 7-66, but he's already got nine in this match - and wouldn't Yorkshire love him to make that 10 or more?

The 24-year-old has bowled them back into position to force victory with this spell either side of tea and the visitors still have a minimum of 20 overs left to claim these last three wickets.

Hill has just had an lbw appeal against Simon Harmer turned down, which looked a decent shout. Even if it wasn't, you'd try your luck at this stage of the game.
