    Sussex 284 &256 v Worcs 180 & 296-8 (target 361)

First ball from Jack Carson goes through missing everything and bouncing off Josh Simpson's glove.

The second is driven (again elegantly) by Fateh Singh through cover for two.

It is 'Dot Dot Dot' to finish as Worcs stay 65 away from a win.

  2. Tea put backpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 294-8 (target 361)

Lovely shot from Fateh Singh who drives Fynn Hudson-Prentice elegantly back to the long on boundary.

A scrambled single makes it five from the over to leave 67 runs to the finish line.

Tea should be now but official word is that it is being nudged back 15 minutes as Sussex requested the chance to finish the match.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time

    Pepper lbw b Hill 68 (Essex 199-5 - target 520) v Yorks

Last ball of the session - and George Hill does the trick!

The medium-pacer draws Michael Pepper across his stumps, raps him on the pads - and there's a sight we haven't seen all day, that of the umpire's finger being raised.

Pepper is gone for 68 and this partnership of 154 with Matt Critchley is finally broken.

Can Yorkshire take advantage of this now slightly open door after tea?

  4. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Edgbastonpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 504 & 15-0

And just like that, here come the covers.

You suspect it wouldn't need to be a very long shower to persuade the two skippers that it might be time to shake hands.

Rory Burns is five not out and Dom Sibley has four after Surrey were asked to follow on 161 in arrears.

Following an extended morning sessions, the umpires order tea to be taken after a very short one.

  5. Postpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 504 & 15-0

Short mid-on and short mid-wicket now in place for Dom Sibley.

Creative thinking by Alex Davies but it doesn't bring the breakthrough he was hoping for as another over ticks by towards tea.

  6. Postpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time

    Essex 197-4 (target 520) v Yorks

No joy so far for George Hill, who's mixing it up nicely in his latest over, a maiden, but his golden touch appears to have deserted him for now.

Dom Bess has returned at the other end, which seems a reasonable ploy as he got the old ball to turn now and then earlier this afternoon.

But nothing, it seems, can break the concentration of Matt Critchley and Michael Pepper - until the tea interval, anyway. That's due in six minutes' time.

  7. Postpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 287-8 (target 361)

Slight break in play after Fateh Singh has his helmet and head checked after a bang on the former from a Ari Karvelas delivery.

He shows no ill effects nudging the next ball for a single.

Tom Taylor has joined him at the other end and has a first class high score of 80, two List A centuries and a T20 50 not out on his CV.

How Worcs could do with him producing now.

  8. 'Libby will get a standing ovation'published at 15:27 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 286-8

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

That is more than likely the vital wicket for this match.

What a wonderful innings that has been by Jake Libby

He will get a standing ovation and everyone around Hove is standing and clapping. He is being applauded all the way back to the pavilion.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:25 British Summer Time

    Libby c Clark b Hudson-Prentice 167 (Worcs 286-8, target 361)

    Is that the game?

Two wickets in close succession remove the two set batsmen and surely this match has swung Sussex's way now.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice had replaced Ollie Robinson and he has turned the match with a wicket maiden.

Bit of a tired shot to be honest as Jake Libby swishes at a widish ball and it flies to Tom Clark's right, chest high at second slip.

It is a good grab and a crucial wicket in the context of this game.

  10. Postpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time

    Essex 195-4 (target 520) v Yorks

Stalemate in these last couple of overs, a maiden apiece from Ben Coad and Jack White - and it's starting to look more likely that stalemate could also be the overall outcome at the end of this match.

Still plenty of time, but Yorkshire really need a breakthrough before the tea interval. That's why they've handed the ball to George Hill, who took six wickets in the first innings.

Six more would do nicely again for the visitors...

  11. 'Another twist in this game'published at 15:23 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 286-7

    Dave Bradley
    Cricket commentator

It was good catch low down to his right by James Coles.

The partnership is broken and Matthew Waite has to trudge off, it is another twist in this game.

The pendulum might be starting to swing back the way of Sussex.

  12. Postpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 504 & 8-0

There is a short mid-on in place for Dom Sibley, but the opener picks the gap at mid-wicket off Ollie Hannon-Dalby and opens his account with a boundary.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:19 British Summer Time

    Waite c Coles b Karvelas (Worcs 286-7, target 361)

    Ari KarvelasImage source, Rex Features

    Bingo! Sussex have a wicket.

Ari Karvelas has been a little hit and miss but that is the former as he squares up Matthew Waite as he pushes forward and gets an edge which flies to James Coles at third slip.

Worcs still need 75 and, with Jake Libby still in at the other end on 167, this remains in the balance.

  14. Postpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 281-6 (target 361)

That one from Ollie Robinson keeps low and Matthew Waite manages to jab down his bat to keep it out at the last gasp.

It appears to have cost him a bat which he changes and also takes the opportunity to rid himself of his sweater.

The Sussex bowler ends his over with a belter which beats the defensive prod but, once again, misses.

Robinson looks skyward as if to ask a higher authority than umpire Ben Debenham what on earth he needs to do to take a wicket.

  15. Postpublished at 15:15 British Summer Time

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 504 & 2-0

Warwickshire do, of course, have a new ball.

Ethan Bamber makes his second delivery rear off a length and Rory Burns is relieved that a thick edge does not go aerial as he takes two to third man.

  16. 150 runs

150 partnership for Critchley and Pepperpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time

    Essex 195-4 (target 520) v Yorks

Matt Critchley turns Jack White for a couple on the leg side and that takes his partnership with Michael Pepper to the 150 mark.

There have been glimmers of hope for Yorkshire with this second new ball, with White beating the bat a couple of times.

Ben Coad did manage to draw an outside edge from Critchley in his last over, only for the ball to reach ground agonisingly short of the diving Fin Bean at third slip.

Lady Luck doesn't appear to be smiling on Yorkshire at the moment.

  17. Postpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 280-6 (target 361)

Ari Karvelas appears to pin Matthew Waite in front and there is a concerted appeal as you would expect.

Replays show there was a significant inside edge on to the pad, it was going down leg side and was almost certainly a little high.

Not a right lot to recommend it to be honest.

Half an hour to tea and the identity of the pair batting when this session ends would appear key to the outcome of this game.

  18. Warwickshire enforce follow-onpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 504 & 0-0

You have to love a bit of optimism.

It is, though, a very tall order to expect Warwickshire to take another 10 wickets today having toiled for a session and a half for one - almost as tall as 6ft 7ins Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

Remember, the Surrey order includes Rory Burns (32 Tests for England), Dom Sibley (22), Dan Lawrence (14), Ben Foakes (25) and Jason Roy (5).

The first-innings deficit is 161 runs. We think there may be 43 overs left.

  19. 'What a fine, fine effort'published at 15:08 British Summer Time

Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 504 all out

    Phil Britt
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire

Barnard has taken the wicket of Fisher and what a fine, fine effort that has been by Fisher and Foakes.

Surrey trail by 161 if they wanted to enforce the follow on they could.

I would be surprised if they did - it would take a miracle.

  20. Postpublished at 15:08 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 279-6 (target 361)

A wild swing of the bat towards point from Matthew Waite nearly finds the edge as the slip cordon go up and then down in unison.

Ollie Robinson then fires a similarly wild delivery down leg side and John Simpson's dive cannot stop it going for four byes.

The bowler comes back with another two which beat the outside edge but fail to take it.

This is edge of the seat stuff.
