There are a minimum of 40 overs remaining at Chelmsford, which should be plenty of time for Yorkshire to pick up six wickets.

But they haven't taken one since the 17th over of this Essex innings last night - more than 66 overs ago - and Ben Coad and Jack White really need to make something happen quickly with this second new ball.

Essex may have to face more balls than they would like if they are going to hold out.

You would expect Yorkshire to take this one as deep as they can, because even with 10 overs to go if you manage to bag a couple of quick wickets, you could be back in and give the opposition a scare.

It has been placid, quiet and no real clear cut opportunities.

Here we go, then - not Yorkshire's final throw of the dice by any means, but arguably their best chance of finding a way to pierce this Essex armour.

The new ball is taken and duly handed to Ben Coad, who pitches one short and is pulled to the fence by Matt Critchley.

Otherwise, it's five dot balls for the Yorkshire seamer- and one draws a leading edge as Critchley misjudges a leg-side flick, but the ball drops into space.

It goes without saying that the visitors could have done with it flying into a fielder's hands instead.

OHD is fractionally short and Matthew Fisher - Surrey's number 11 - stands tall and thumps it past cover for four.

A firm push into the off side from Jake Libby brings up two runs and his 150.

This is looking an increasingly confident and potentially match winning knock with 103 needed.

Four from Jake Libby slapped back through long on from the opening delivery of Tom Clark's over as the bowler bangs it in too short.

A hand is held up by the bowler as if to apologise to his teammates. Libby has moved to 146 and the runs needed to 108.

Another five are run from the remaining five balls and Clark could be pulled by captain John Simpson with the runs starting to flow.

Nine from that over.

Essex's batters are getting plenty of opportunity to practise their limbo dancing skills as Matthew Revis maintains his policy of short-pitched bowling from around the wicket.

It's a policy that has yet to bear any fruit so far for Yorkshire and you'd assume they'll have some different tactics in mind when they take the new ball very shortly.

A sudden flurry of runs for Matt Critchley lifts him to his 50, cutting Matthew Revis for four and then steering him to the third man boundary alter in the over.

The all-rounder has used up 190 deliveries and spent almost four hours in the middle to get there.

It's the third time he's passed 50 this season and this partnership with Michael Pepper remains unbroken at 131.

That is a grand total of 1,161 runs so far over the four days for the loss of 14 wickets.

Leg stump half-volley from Ethan Bamber, Ben Foakes clips it to mid-wicket for four.

It brings up a 150 stand with Matthew Fisher - the highest ever for the 10th wicket against Warwickshire.

The previous holders of that particular record were Geoffrey Boycott and Graeme Stevenson who put on 149 against the Bears for Yorkshire in 1982.

Ollie Robinson's opening delivery with the new ball is not quite on the mark with a full toss despatched by Matthew Waite for four.

But he comes back well with five dots including a fifth delivery which so nearly takes the edge.

Bright sunshine now and Worcs need 120.

Seam finally makes an appearance for the first time this afternoon, with Matthew Revis tearing in around the wicket and dropping one short of a length that Matt Critchley gratefully paddles away to the square leg boundary.

Critchley has moved on to 45, which is only 32 runs scored in almost a session and a half today. But from the home side's perspective, the words 'not out' against his name are all that matter.
