  1. 'Worcester are slowly chalking off these runs'published at 11:51 British Summer Time 12 May

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 145-4

Worcester are slowly chalking off these runs and there is no rush for them.

There is still another 86 overs left in the day so there is plenty of time.

  2. Postpublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 12 May

    Essex 80-4 (target 520) v Yorks

Apologies are due to Jack White, who wasn't being taken out of the attack at all - Yorkshire have switched him to the Graham Gooch End instead.

White finally concedes a run for the first time today, with Michael Pepper advancing into double figures.

Yorkshire also give away four byes as George Hill spears one down the leg side and the visitors are still searching for the breakthrough this morning.

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 141-4 (target 361)

Ari Karvelas has beaten the bat of Jake Libby with one which leaves him off the pitch. In his previous over got one to spit off the deck and ping Ethan Brookes on his right hand.

The Sussex man was on the end of an official caution for letting two beamers slip from his hand and skipper John Simpson clearly feels he might get a little bit out of this pitch.

That said, Libby has just driven him down the ground for four. Beamer incoming!

  4. Postpublished at 137 overs

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 402-9

This is exactly what Warwickshire didn't want.

They have been out there almost 45 minutes and still haven't managed to take the final Surrey wicket.

They've also been forced to use their main new-ball bowler, Ethan Bamber.

Time for a change now, though, as spinner Rob Yates returns.

  5. Postpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 12 May

    Essex 73-4 (target 520) v Yorks

Maybe it seems a tad harsh on Jack White to be withdrawn from the attack after four overs in which he hasn't conceded a single run?

On the other hand, White's replacement at the Sir Alastair Cook End is George Hill, who showed a handy knack of taking wickets at important times in Essex's first innings.

Hill's first over goes for a single, which drags Michael Pepper up to eight, while Matt Critchley has moved to 21 with another boundary off Ben Coad.

  6. ouch!

    Ouch!published at 135.5 overs

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 402-9

Ben Foakes tries to pull a ball from Che Simmons but he's a fraction too late.

A short breather and a rearrangement of his 'under-carriage' is necessary.

  7. new ball

New (old) ballpublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 12 May

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 126-4 (target 361)

A first boundary of the morning with Ethan Brookes driving Ollie Robinson back down the ground on the on side.

That will do nothing to improve Robinson's mood after the bowler has repeatedly complained to umpires about the state of the ball only to have it chucked back to him in a 'get on with it' sort of manner.

Robinson takes his cap from the umpire and has another moan with the result that the two umpires and John captain Simpson finally agree to change it.

Conditions looks perfect for swing bowling with jumpers in the middle for the Sussex fielders, jumpers in the crowd, flags hanging limply and the sun keeping himself to himself for the moment.

Change of bowling with Ari Karvelas coming on for Fynn Hudson-Prentice.

  8. 'It is a crawl this morning'published at 11:31 British Summer Time 12 May

    Essex 123 & 68-4 v Yorks 216 & 426-6 dec

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

It is a crawl in terms of the scoreboard this morning, but the happier side will be Essex.

They haven't lost a wicket, despite that they have only added four runs from the boundary.

  9. Postpublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 12 May

    Essex 68-4 (target 520) v Yorks

For Yorkshire, it's all about applying as much pressure as possible to the batters and that's one reason why they have close catchers in on both sides of the wicket for Ben Coad, along with a trio of slips.

Essex are just battling to blunt Coad and Jack White and, in that regard it's so far, so good for them.

Michael Pepper has yet to add to his overnight score of seven and he's been at the crease for more than an hour now. Matt Critchley has 17 to his name.

  10. Postpublished at 134.1 overs

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 401-9

Warwickshire wanted to keep their new-ball bowlers fresh but now turn to Ethan Bamber. His first delivery is a beautiful leg-cutter which beats the edge of Ben Foakes' bat.

  11. 400 up for Surreypublished at 133.3 overs

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 400-9

Che Simmons fires in a bouncer and it is called a wide on height.

An understated way for Surrey's total to reach 400 - but from their point of view, the time these two are taking out of the day is the most important thing.

  12. Postpublished at 133 overs

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 399-9

Matthew Fisher is no mug with the bat - he has two first-class 50s and a highest score of 88.

He blocks out a Rob Yates maiden and the deficit remains 266.

  13. 'Foakes has held that innings together'published at 11:20 British Summer Time 12 May

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 399-9

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

That is Ben Foakes' century and what a way to get there with consecutive sixes.

He has held that innings together when it could have easily collapsed completely when those wickets were falling and he has just taken some time out and and some more runs out.

From a personal point of view he becomes the fourth centurion of this match.

  14. Postpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 12 May

    Essex 68-4 (target 520) v Yorks

The scoreboard at Chelmsford is finally whirring in action as Matt Critchley nudges the first runs of the morning, steering Ben Coad to the third man boundary.

It's Jack White who is causing more problems for the batters so far - he's sent down three maidens in a row and has just had two lbw appeals against Michael Pepper turned down.

The ball was probably doing too much on each of those occasions, but well worth a shout from White and the Yorkshire slip cordon.

  15. Postpublished at 132 overs

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 399-9

Umpire Peter Hartley isn't happy about Che Simmons following through down the pitch and 'has a word' with Warwickshire skipper Alex Davies.

Simmons switches to round the wicket from where he shook up Surrey's power order batters yesterday.

Ben Foakes glances his final ball for four and that is a 50 partnership with Matthew Fisher for the 10th wicket.

  16. Postpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 12 May

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 120-4 (target 361)

Stifled appeal from Ollie Robinson as another one swings down the slope and Jake Libby scuttles through for a single given as leg byes.

Ethan Brookes, who made 20 in the first innings before becoming one of Fynn H-P's five victims, is the new batsman.

Back to back sixes off Rob Yates take Ben Foakes to his first century of the season - and 17th of his career.

It's been a superb knock for his team and has taken him 197 balls.

All built around a sound technique, it's no wonder he is so highly rated with the bat at The Oval.

  18. Postpublished at 130.1 overs

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 378-9

One over only for Ed Barnard - here comes spinner Rob Yates.

There's a loud appeal as Ben Foakes tries to sweep his opening delivery and makes no contact, but the umpire shakes his head.

  19. Postpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 12 May

    Essex 64-4 (target 520) v Yorks

The dependable Ben Coad shares bowling duties with Jack White and he also opens up with a maiden to Matt Critchley.

Still no runs scored this morning as White fizzes one just past the outside edge of Michael Pepper. Three overs gone - just the small matter of 93 to go as far as Essex are concerned.

  20. Postpublished at 130 overs

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 378-9

Matthew Fisher clips away a Che Simmons full toss and they take three. The next ball rears up at Ben Foakes, but he flips it round the corner for a single and moves to 90 not out.
