  1. Division Two updatepublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 22 August

Brooke Guest is disgusted with himself after chipping a catch to mid-wicket to give Ned Leonard his first scalp for Glamorgan after joining them on loan from Somerset.

Derbyshire are 47-2 after 17 overs, 121 behind after bowling Glamorgan out for 168 - Zak Chappell taking 6-47.

They are still off the field because of rain at Merchant Taylors' School, where Northants are 149-7 against Middlesex, with Lewis McManus and Ben Sanderson the not out batsmen.

    Surrey 67-0 v Lancs 204

George Balderson throws it up too full and Rory Burns drives beautifully through mid-on.

Balderson doesn't change his length with his next delivery but Burns does...and caresses it through mid-off.

You don't link Burns and aesthetically pleasing batting together very often but he gets an "oooo" of excitement from former team-mate Rikki Clarke in the BBC London commentary box.

  3. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 22 August

    Worcs 71-0 v Kent 171

Gareth Roderick chips the ball back towards bowler Joey Evison, who gets his right hand to it but can't take the chance and it deflects away for four runs. Roderick is 37 not out and Jake Libby has 24.

    Surrey 50-0 v Lancs 204

It’s been a dominant day so far for the champions and Rory Burns and Dom Sibley have backed their bowlers up perfectly here so far.

    Rehan AhmedImage source, Rex Features

Not a shot you see all that often in red-ball cricket - certainly not in the pre-Bazball era.

Zaman Akhter bangs one in short at Rehan Ahmed, who leans back and uppercuts it over the slips for six, bringing up a 50 partnership with Ian Holland.

The next one is also short and pulled away for four as Ahmed advances to 34 not out.

Tom Alsop celebrates scoring a fiftyImage source, Rex Features

A master class in patience from Tom Alsop.

Sussex have felt like they have had to fight every delivery today with the movement and accuracy, but Alsop has fought harder than anyone else.

A rare attacking pull shot to the ropes takes him to a 142-ball half-century in just over three hours of defensive resolve. A very well-deserved, and earned, landmark.

  7. wicket

WICKET: Mousley c Umeed b Overton 10published at 17:05 British Summer Time 22 August

    Warwickshire 165-6 v Somerset

A wicket and a second bowling point for Somerset.

Craig Overton deserves that – his second – and an increasingly heated exchange between the fiery Somerset captain and Warwickshire's Dan Mousley goes the former's way.

With Surrey rattling their way past Lancashire, the visitors need every point they can get so a sixth wicket and a second bowling point is helpful.

  8. Postpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 22 August

    Worcs 59-0 v Kent 171

Akeem Jordan is making a decent impression in his first appearance for Kent - his first three overs have only cost 10 runs.

We're in a fairly soporific period of play with Worcestershire seemingly giving as much attention to keeping wickets intact as looking for boundaries.

  9. wicket

    WICKET Hudson-Prentice c Hill b Revis 6published at 17:02 British Summer Time 22 August

    Yorks v Sussex 134-6

I said in the 14:55 post that Fynn Hudson-Prentice will be playing shots.

And that has been his undoing as he throws his hands at a wide delivery and it is a good head-high catch at first slip by George Hill.

Hill repaying Matt Revis for catching off his bowling earlier!

A first point for Yorkshire as well, which you never know might be important come the end of September in the fight for promotion.

  10. new ball

New ballpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 22 August

    Durham 337-3 v Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire are starting to look a touch ground down at the Riverside but will be hoping a new ball brings some better luck.

It is Luke Fletcher who gets first look at it.

  11. ouch!

Postpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 22 August

    Yorks v Sussex 134-5

Jordan Thompson was struggling with a problem in his leg earlier in the day, and now he's hit the deck again mid-over.

His left leg is stretched out as if he has a bout of cramp by his team-mates.

He continues but the following delivery is completed with a very stiff limp and more stretching.

A gel is brought out from the dressing room at the end of the over, and he's going to stay out on the field.

  12. Postpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 22 August

    Yorks v Sussex 132-5

Fynn Hudson-Prentice is not one for bedding in and blocking his side out of trouble.

If a shot can be played, Hudson-Prentice is playing it.

And the upshot of that is the shot of the day through the covers as he picks up on a bit of width from Matt Revis.

Rain stops play at Northwoodpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 22 August

    Middx v Northants 149/7

Northants still scrapping and maybe this break will favour Middlesex.

  14. wicket

WICKET Reece b van der Gugtenpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 22 August

    Derbys 21-1 v Glamorgan 168

    A breakthrough for Glamorgan.

Luis Reece shapes to play towards mid-wicket but the ball holds its line and cleans him up.

After his unbeaten 46 earlier on, Timm van der Gugten is now doing his bit with the ball.

  15. Postpublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 22 August

    Surrey 21-0 v Lancs 204

    Steady away here for Surrey.

Dom Sibley flicks Josh Boydon wide of long leg for the first boundary of the innings.

And then he’s too short and gets cut for four by Rory Burns.

  16. Postpublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 22 August

    Worcs 56-0 v Kent 171

An interruption at New Road because of an object on the outfield.

"Is it animal, vegetable or mineral?" asks a member of the BBC commentary team.

Groundstaff bring out a shovel and a broom.

Has a ghost horse been taking the air and left a present?

  17. wicket

WICKET Simpson c Revis b Hill 16published at 16:44 British Summer Time 22 August

    Yorks v Sussex 125-4

    John Simpson can't believe it!

He has batted so hard and patiently for his 16 off 42 balls and then he's absolutely middled one straight to Matt Revis at midwicket.

Simpson couldn't have struck that any better and would certainly have been four had it not been straight at Revis.

  18. Division Two updatepublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 22 August

Derbyshire's openers are still together, with the score 18-0 in the eighth over, after they bowled out Glamorgan for 168 at the County Ground.

Ian Holland hit two successive fours in the latest Marchant de Lange over at Bristol where Leicestershire are 165-4 after 43 overs - with Holland now 78 not out.

  19. Back underway at Edgbastonpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 22 August

    Warwickshire 144-5 v Somerset

The hosts are out again after the delayed tea break with the intention of steadying a ship that took a few hits in the middle session.

Jacob Bethell and Dan Mousley are tasked with putting together a partnership for the sixth wicket. Josh Davey and Craig Overton the pair tasked with stopping them.

Alex Lees reaches a hundredImage source, Rex Features

It could not be described as one of the more rollicking efforts from the 31-year-old former England man but he has played a mature and sensible knock to anchor this innings for Durham.

Happy to let Ben McKinney outscore him at approaching double the pace, the opener has ticked over nicely to bring up his 27th first class hundred and third this season.

He does so in 224 balls with a punched four off Freddie McCann and celebrates with a quick chat with Ashton Turner, with whom he has now brought up a 50 partnership.
