A rainy Utilita BowlImage source, Rex Features

After a day of watching wet sheets at Utilita Bowl, the umpires have decided there will be no play on day one.

Not a great surprise as it has rained consistently since 11:00 BST.

  3. Glamorgan all outpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 22 August

    Derbys v Glamorgan 168

    Loanee v loanee.

Ned Leonard is down the track and hoists spinner Jack Morley down the ground for a magnificent six.

He tries to repeat the shot next ball but this time aims more towards long-on where Luis Reece takes the catch.

Timm van der Gugten is left on 46 not out, having overseen lower-order resistance from Glamorgan, who were 32-6 during the morning. They will take tea during the changeover.

for Ian Hollandpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 22 August

    Glos v Leics 135-3

    Ian HollandImage source, Rex Features

Marchant de Lange overpitches and Ian Holland slams it away through the covers to reach 50 off 100 balls - his first for Leicestershire in the 2024 Championship.

Peter Handscomb is his new partner, on four not out, following the dismissal of Ajinkya Rahane.

  5. Postpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 22 August

    Worcs 4-0 v Kent 171

Following a single for Gareth Roderick, Grant Stewart is convinced he has Jake Libby lbw, but the umpire doesn't agree with his assessment.

Libby clips the next away through the leg-side and takes three runs as Worcestershire survive the opening over of their reply unscathed.

  6. Postpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 22 August

    Surrey v Lancs 192-8

Another debutant is out there now for Lancashire with 20-year-old Josh Boydon making his first-class bow.

He and Tom Aspinwall - only in his fourth first-class match - are trying to get their side through to tea in seven overs time.

Aspinwall plays one of the shots of the day as he pulls Conor McKerr high over midwicket for six!

  7. Hutton back on the fieldpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 22 August

    Durham 253-3 v Nottinghamshire

Notts seamer Brett Hutton is back on the field lurking at mid off and has just fielded the ball low with no apparent discomfort.

No indication whether he will be able to bowl but Notts skipper Haseeb Hameed will almost certainly err on the side of caution with so much of the match to come.

  8. Postpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 22 August

    Durham 252-3 v Nottinghamshire

A first batting point in the bank for Durham.

  9. wicket

WICKET: Keogh c Robson b Brookes 25published at 15:35 British Summer Time 22 August

    Middx v Northants 109-5

That counterpunch was indeed brief by Rob Keogh.

He ironically goes to leave one just outside off from Henry Brookes but doesn't up periscope in time and gets a toe-end to first slip.

  10. wicket

WICKET: Shaikh c Lammonby b Ball 8published at 15:33 British Summer Time 22 August

    Warwickshire 125-3 v Somerset

    Another one for the visitors.

That was probably there to be hit, a half volley outside off but Hamza Shaikh had to reach for it a touch and didn't quite make it sending it to the safe hands of Tom Lammonby at backward point.

  11. Division Two updatepublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 22 August

Derbyshire's Zak Chappell now has six wickets, having Fraser Sheat caught for 18, and Glamorgan are 141-9 after 43 overs.

Leicestershire have just lost their third wicket at Bristol, with Ajinkya Rahane brilliantly caught one-handed by Cameron Bancroft at second slip off Dom Goodman for 12, and are 115-3 in the 30th.

  12. wicket

WICKET: Hartley c Foakes b McKerr 5published at 15:26 British Summer Time 22 August

    Surrey v Lancs 175-8

A second wicket in five balls and Surrey are on the verge of rolling Lancashire now.

Conor McKerr is round the wicket and gets one to leave the left-handed Tom Hartley, whose jumping out of the way slightly and then feeling for it and edging behind.

  13. wicket

WICKET: Balderson c Jacks b Worrall 33published at 15:24 British Summer Time 22 August

    Surrey v Lancs 173-7

Dan Worrall takes a wicket for SurreyImage source, Rex Features

George Balderson had played nicely this afternoon to give his side some life.

But he's gone now after a battling 62-ball stay, driving at a full one from Dan Worrall that leaves him a fraction and he edges to first slip at shoulder height.

  14. Postpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 22 August

    Yorks v Sussex 85-4

Jordan Thompson has a perma-grimace on his face but is continuing.

It is much easier to bowl through any pain he's in with the amount of swing he's getting at the moment.

  15. Postpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 22 August

    Middx v Northants 104-4

A little counterpunch here from Rob Keogh and he quickly brings the Northants 100 up.

Four boundaries in seven balls with two flicks to leg - the first almost finding midwicket - a steer through gully and a force off the back foot through cover.

He adds a fifth by turning Ethan Bamber to long leg.

  16. wicket

WICKET: Robinson c Harrison b James 13published at 15:23 British Summer Time 22 August

    Durham 247-3 v Nottinghamshire

Lyndon James has another. And it is the in-form Ollie Robinson who wafts at a full one and gives Calvin Harrison catching practice at slip.

Durham have gifted Notts a couple of wickets here and, after a tough morning, they have hope to hang on to.

  17. ouch!

Hutton limps offpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 22 August

    Durham 236-2 v Nottinghamshire

That is a bit of a worry for both Hutton and Nottinghamshire as the bowler pulls out halfway through his over and goes off for treatment.

It looked more hamstring than the Achilles injury which ruled him out of a big portion of this season – this is his first red ball action since April.

That is probably good news but going a bowler down if he cannot recover is not.

  18. wicket

WICKET Coles lbw Thompson 5published at 15:20 British Summer Time 22 August

    Yorks v Sussex 85-4

Jordan Thompson has returned to the attack and immediately tails a yorker into James Coles pads.

No doubt in umpire James Middlebrook's mind to give that one out, and Yorkshire are right back on top.

It isn't all good new for Thompson and Yorkshire. The bowler needs some treatment on his leg after that scalp.

  19. wicket

WICKET Garrett c Jones b Leach 0published at 15:19 British Summer Time 22 August

    Worcestershire v Kent 171

    Joe LeachImage source, Getty Images

Two in the over for Joe Leach gives him figures of 6-52 as Kent are bowled out in the 50th over after being put in at New Road.

Having been 73-0, their hopes of a substantial total were undermined by a three-wicket burst by Leach before lunch and he has repeated that following the interval.

The home pacemen have been backed up by some excellent catching and Rob Jones takes his fourth of the innings at second slip to remove last man George Garrett.

That will be tea and Kent badly need someone to match Leach's impact with the ball in the final session of play today.

  20. Five wickets for Joe Leachpublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 22 August

    Worcs v Kent 171-9

What a way to mark your first Championship game since May.

Fit-again Joe Leach, who will retire at the end of the season, has Alfie Ogborne caught at second slip to complete the 18th red-ball five-for of his career.

George Garrett is number 11 for bottom-of-the-table Kent who are not going to register a single batting point unless a remarkable partnership with Akeem Jordan follows.
