Hants v Essex - play delayed by rain

The covers at Utilita BowlImage source, Rex Features

Wondering what you're missing at Utilita Bowl?

Well, nothing. It is still raining, albeit rather finely.

The 50 or so spectators I can count in the stands would have been excited by the ground staff emerging about an hour ago...but they only fiddled with the covers for a few minutes before heading back to cover.

  2. wicket

WICKET: McKinney c Hameed b McCann 121published at 14:33 British Summer Time 22 August

    Durham 189-1 v Nottinghamshire

    A fine century ends.

Ben McKinney might not be best pleased about the manner of its end, chasing a horrid leg side drag down and chipping it to Nottinghamshire skipper Haseeb Hameed.

But he has earned that pat on the back from captain Scott Borthwick as they pass on the stairs to the dressing room.

He was looking to accelerate after reaching three figures and walks with 121 from 129 deliveries and head held high indeed. He has given Durham a superb platform.

  3. wicket

WICKET Parkinson c Jones b Taylor 13published at 14:31 British Summer Time 22 August

    Worcs v Kent 133-7

Aggressive batting by Matt Parkinson and Grant Stewart as they add 30 in six overs for Kent's seventh wicket but the partnership is now at an end.

Parkinson drives at a ball from Tom Taylor and Rob Jones takes the catch in front of his face at second slip.

Debutant Akeem Jordan is the new batter and smashes his first ball square for four.

    Durham 189-0 v Nottinghamshire

Ben McKinney is really motoring now. Hits a glorious maximum off Freddie McCann over the mid-off boundary and has now walloped Luke Fletcher for a lovely four.

He has quickly moved to 121 (off 128 deliveries) leaving his partner Alex Lees as the anchor (65) at the other end.

This is getting away from the visitors who could do with coming up with a new plan.

    Yorks v Sussex 52-2

Having been asked to bat, and losing two early wickets, Sussex will be happy with the position they've found themselves in.

Daniel Hughes has been the dominant runscorer and proves such with a classical cover drive to move himself to 35 and his team to 50.

Tom Alsop has been playing the survivor role with seven off 42 deliveries so far. Solid stuff.

  6. McKinney 'looks set for big things'published at 14:24 British Summer Time 22 August

    Durham 175-0 v Notts

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

19-year-old Ben McKinney has reached his first century in County Chanmpionship cricket in just his second appearance in the competition.

He made 35 on his debut at Sussex last year. It was the beginning of the season. But he's had to wait until now to play in it again.

He has hit some gorgeous shots today. He's timed the ball so well and brought up the hundred with a trademark cover drive for four.

Having made his Lions debut last week, the former England Under-19 captain looks set for big things. At the other end Alex Lees has 63.

    Glos v Leics 57-0

While we were bringing you news of events elsewhere, Rishi Patel pulled Dom Goodman for six as he and Ian Holland brought up a 50 partnership for Leicestershire in Bristol.

The home side have now turned to Marchant de Lange, their quickest bowler, but his first delivery was slashed away by Holland for four.

  8. wicket

    WICKET: Vasconcelos c Roland-Jones b Helm 13published at 14:21 British Summer Time 22 August

    Middx v Northants 49-2

Ricardo Vasconcelos is always easy on the eye and he lays into a drive off Ethan Bamber to take his first boundary.

A second follows as he plays forward and opens the face to guide Tom Helm wide of gully.

But he then totally miscues a pull off Helm and lobs up a catch to mid-on!

Bonus second wicket for Middlesex and a dangerous player gone cheaply.

We don't have an action shot of Ben McKinney so this will have to do.

What a moment for the 19-year-old as he reaches a 117-ball century in only his second Championship appearance - and first of the season.

He punches the air after driving Freddie McCann elegantly for the 15th boundary of his innings - a superb knock for his team.

  10. wicket

WICKET Douthwaite b Brown 36published at 14:15 British Summer Time 22 August

    Derbys v Glamorgan 87-7

After a stand of 55 - by some distance the best of the innings - Glamorgan lose their seventh wicket at Derby as Dan Douthwaite is beaten by a beauty from Pat Brown which knocks back his off stump.

Not a lot he could have done about that one. Mason Crane comes out to join Timm van der Gugten.

  11. Postpublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 22 August

    Surrey v Lancs 117-4

Matt Hurst and George Balderson trying to settle Lancashire into the afternoon session.

Hurst feasted on a wide one from Jordan Clark to slap it away to the cover fence.

And he's gone after another with some width from Tom Lawes and takes him up and over cover for four more.

  12. Somerset decision looking 'questionable'published at 14:10 British Summer Time 22 August

    Warwicks 56-1 v Somerset - lunch

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Asking Warwickshire to have a bat looked a good call by Somerset's stand-in captain, Craig Overton, when he made it under grey, drizzly skies with a chill breeze blowing across the ground.

But when play finally got under way under sunny skies, an hour or so later, it wasn't looking quite so obvious - and by lunch, with Warwickshire having made largely untroubled progress to 56-1 on a slow, flat pitch, it was looking distinctly questionable.

Somerset do have one wicket to show for their enterprise, when Alex Davies chased a short, wide one from Kasey Aldridge, to be caught behind. But on the evidence so far, this is a day for batting, rather than bowling.

Yorkshire wicketkeeper Jonny BairstowImage source, Rex Features

Jonny Bairstow takes a thud to the back of his head when trying to get down to a ball down the legside.

It took an awkward bounce and the wicketkeeper is on his haunches rubbing his head between overs.

He waves away the physio and continues.

  14. wicket

WICKET Compton c Roderick b Finch 20published at 14:06 British Summer Time 22 August

    Worcs v Kent 103-6

Ben Compton doesn't like it - but he has to go.

Gareth Roderick accepts an inside edge for his third catch of the innings as Adam Finch claims his second victim since lunch.

Compton batted for almost two and a half hours and faced 88 balls for his 20.

The visitors were 73-0 during the morning session - but it's all been downhill since then.

  15. 50 runs

for Alex Leespublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 22 August

    Durham 147-0 v Notts

Wonder what Notts are making of their decision to put Durham in now?

Alex Lees nudges spinner Freddie McCann away for a single and reached 50 off 114 balls.

Another solid knock by the England opener, who has been content to play in teenager Ben McKinney's shadow in this innings.

  16. wicket

WICKET Finch c Libby b Hartshorn 5published at 14:03 British Summer Time 22 August

    Worcs v Kent 103-5

A wicket on debut for New Zealander James Hartshorn as Harry Finch is guilty of a loose shot and is caught by Jake Libby at gully.

It's a deserved wicket for Hartshorn, signed by Worcestershire from Sussex club cricket, and he has 1-11 from eight overs so far.

    Yorks v Sussex 37-2

In these conditions, you need a bit of luck, and Daniel Hughes gets some.

Jordan Thompson has returned and switched ends. He finds a patch outside the off stump that jumps up and finds the edge of Hughes' bat.

There is no gully, who would have had a comfortable catch had he existed, and four runs for the Australian - who is up to 27.

  18. Division Two updatepublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 22 August

Shot of the day at Derby where Dan Douthwaite drives Pat Brown straight back down the pitch for four. The Glamorgan all-rounder has 31 not out in their 73-6. Conditions looking a little bit easier now.

Rishi Patel has started well for Leicestershire at Bristol - he has 23 and they are 35-0 in the 11th over against Gloucestershire.

  19. wicket

    WICKET: Shaw c Stoneman b Roland-Jones 24published at 13:57 British Summer Time 22 August

    Middx v Northants 31-1

Big blow for Middlesex as Prithvi Shaw falls for 24 after a blazing start.

He goes to turn Toby Roland-Jones to leg and the ball seems to stop in the pitch and he gets a thick leading edge that pops up to cover.

    Durham 132-0 v Notts

Brett Hutton drops short at the start of a new over and Ben McKinney has all the time in the world to pull it away for four runs.

The youngster adds a single and progresses to 86 not out from 99 balls.
