    Surrey v Lancs 98-3

    Rocky FlintoffImage source, Rex Features

The day began with a minute's silence for Graham Thorpe, disturbed only by a stiff breeze blowing across the ground from the Thames.

A very competitive session then followed as Surrey nipped out both openers cheaply and it brough Rocky Flintoff to the crease on the day most 16-year-olds are worried about their GCSE results.

His dad was there to watch and after a skittish start he settled well to drive Tom Lawes through point for his first boundary and pull Jordan Clark for another.

He did enjoy a huge moment of fortune when dropped horribly at third slip off Lawes but he's got to lunch 32 not out.

Liam Hurst with him on 15, who ends the session with a delightful straight drive off Dan Worrall for four.

  2. new ball

Ball changepublished at 12:57 British Summer Time 22 August

    Durham 120-0 v Nottinghamshire

At the third attempt Nottinghamshire finally get a ball change, the first one doggedly refusing to slip through the rings when the umpires have a look.

  3. Postpublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 22 August

    Surrey v Lancs 87-3

Some more luck for Flintoff as he flashes at Dan Worrall outside off and gets a flying edge over the shoulder of third slip.

No chance for the fielder and it races down to the third man boundary.

Probably too close to him for the stroke but Flintoff survives again.

  4. Near thingpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 22 August

    Durham 120-0 v Nottinghamshire

Ben McKinney, on 63, uses up a life.

His expansive drive to Calvin Harrison edges between wicketkeeper and slip, to much frustration from Notts fielders who clasp hands to head as the ball races to the boundary.

  5. Postpublished at 12:53 British Summer Time 22 August

    Worcs v Kent 88-3

Joey Evison square cuts Tom Taylor for four - a welcome boundary for Kent following the recent flurry of wickets.

The next one, though, narrowly misses the outside edge as he tries to drive.

Taylor must be feeling a little hard done by - his nine impressive overs so far have come at a cost of only 14 runs.

  6. Postpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 22 August

Lancashire's Rocky Flintoff might not thank us for posting this, but here he is under the watchful eye of dad Andrew at Old Trafford back in 2013.

  7. Postpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 22 August

    Surrey v Lancs 83-3

Jordan Clark is back, whose first five overs went for 26, and he concedes another boundary second ball.

He bangs one into Flintoff, who rocks back and pulls in front of square for four.

  8. Postpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 22 August

    Warwickshire 17-0 v Somerset

Plenty of encouragement for Somerset early on here who have strung four slips across the cordon.

Craig Overton finds the edge of Rob Yates's bat and Josh Davey beats Alex Davies all ends up twice in consecutive balls before being punched through the covers for four.

  9. Postpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 22 August

    Surrey v Lancs 78-3

Matt Hurst joins Rocky Flintoff and he very smartly pulls his second ball for four.

Had a lot of time there. Impressive start.

Can Rocky Flintoff get through to lunch? He's 23 not out.

  10. Postpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 22 August

    Worcs v Kent 84-3

Almost another for Joe Leach but Joey Evison's edge doesn't quite carry to Adam Hose at first slip.

Suddenly Worcestershire are well on top but Brett D'Oliveira will probably be wary of over-bowling his most experienced team-mate following a three-month injury lay-off.

Leach now has 3-35 from eight overs.

  11. 100 runs

100 up for Durhampublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 22 August

    Durham 102-0 v Nottinghamshire

Great start for the hosts at the Riverside after being put into bat by Haseeb Hameed, Alex Lees and Ben McKinney reaching three figures with minimum fuss.

A cleanly hit sweep off Calvin Harrison's leg-spin brings up the first milestone.

  12. Lunch at Bristolpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 22 August

    Gloucestershire v Leicestershire 5-0

With no prospect of an early resumption, the teams are taking lunch in Bristol.

Just 19 balls were bowled during the morning session after Gloucestershire won the toss and put Leicestershire in.

By the way, it's home skipper Graeme van Buuren's 34th birthday today. Let's hope he'll see some more action later on.

  13. wicket

WICKET: Bohannon b McKerr 26published at 12:40 British Summer Time 22 August

    Surrey v Lancs 73-3

    Surrey break the partnership!

Conor McKerr with a length ball just outside off and Josh Bohannon pokes at it slightly lazily, perhaps trying to run it down to third man, and drags it into the base of his leg stump.

  14. 'Quite a week' for McKinneypublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 22 August

    Durham 94-0 v Notts

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

What a lovely innings from Ben McKinney. He's reached his first Campionship 50, in his fifth first-class match.

He's hit eight sumptuously-timed fours, most of them beautiful cover drives.

It's been quite a week for the 19-year-old. He played in an England Lions win against Sri Lanka last week, having scored his first century in one-day cricket, just a few days before that.

Alex Lees is 33 not out at the other end.

  15. Latest from Northwoodpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 22 August

Middlesex v Northants - delayed by rain

Some good news from north London! There will be an early lunch taken at 12:45 BST, and if there is now more rain, play will start at 13:25 BST.

  16. Postpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 22 August

    Warwickshire 5-0 v Somerset

Josh Davey takes the new ball for Somerset in an eventful first over in which there are signs of some lateral movement, a half-hearted appeal for lbw against Alex Davies and a hard cut from the opener for four.

  17. wicket

WICKET Leaning c Roderick b Leach 6published at 12:34 British Summer Time 22 August

    Worcs v Kent 79-3

    Another one for Joe Leach.

A thin edge through to keeper Gareth Roderick and Jack Leaning is gone.

After an opening stand of 73, Kent have now lost three wickets for six runs, all to the venerable Worcestershire all-rounder.

What a servant he has been over the years.

  18. Postpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 22 August

Hants v Essex - start delayed by rain

    Hooray, it has stopped raining!

However, there won't be any play before lunch which means it will be a 13:40 BST start at the earliest.

  19. Somerset hope to keep pressure on Surreypublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 22 August

    Warwickshire 0-0 v Somerset

Having reached the One-Day Cup final and last eight of the T20 Blast, Somerset now turn their attention to the prize they probably deep-down covet more than, a first Championship title.

They have a 23-point gap to make up on favourites Surrey and will hope to close that at least a little over the next couple of weeks, prior to their showdown at Taunton, starting on 9 September.

The ever reliable Craig Overton needs four more wickets to reach 50 in the Championship this season and they are content enough with the strength of their core squad to allow Ben Green, Alfie Ogborne and Ned Leonard to join other counties on loan this week.

There is no Chris Woakes for Warwickshire, but former Durham seamer Chris Rushworth is fit enough to return to the team for the first time since suffering a leg injury in April.

  20. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 22 August

    Surrey v Lancs 67-2

Rocky Flintoff put down at third slip!

Tom Lawes is in the channel on a good length, Flintoff pushes at it quite hard and gets a healthy edge straight to third slip at a stomach height but the catch goes down.

    Shocker.

Flintoff responds with a clip for two through square leg and then a crisp drive for four through point - his maiden first-class boundary.
