Yep, Chris Woakes' excellent spell is done and Brydon Carse is back.

The field is set with short stuff in mind but he starts with a fuller ball that Glenn Phillips hastily gets forward to defend.

Glenn Phillips punches through point for four and then adds a couple more with push into the covers.

Seven from the Shoaib Bashir over in total as New Zealand move to the brink of wiping out the first-innings deficit, albeit having lost half of their second-innings wickets.

Three singles from Chris Woakes' latest over, the fifth of his spell so that might be him done for the day.

    We shall see.

Half an hour left in the day. England would love another wicket or two to really turn the screw.

Overall PitchViz ratings by day in this Test (higher ratings indicate tougher conditions to bat on):

    • Day 1: 5.1
    • Day 2: 5.6
    • Day 3: 3.9

Despite day two being the toughest day to bat in this Test, England scored 319 runs at an average of 63.8. Similarly, although day three has been easier to bat on, England have been very aggressive, executed their plans well, and held onto the chances created, managing to pick up five wickets already.

Well, the Brydon Carse v Daryl Mitchell battle is short-lived as, after two overs of short stuff, Carse is replaced by Shoaib Bashir.

    Maybe a change of ends?

Either way, it's a solid over from Bashir with just a single from it as New Zealand remain watchful.

Sometimes you look at Ben Stokes with the amount of bowling changes and think he's panicking, but he's always asking questions of the batters and trying to challenge them with something new. Everyone out there in England colours knows what is happening.

That PitchViz rating makes Chris Woakes' two wickets all the more impressive.

Nothing much happening but he found just enough to winkle out a couple of wickets and ensure England remain firmly on top.

PitchViz (out of 10, higher = tougher for batting)

    • Day 1, Session 3 - 4.1
    • Day 2, Session 3 - 3.5
    • Day 3, Session 3 - 2.7
  10. NZ 135-5published at 39 overs

Another over with just a single from it but there is still plenty going on out there as Brydon Carse and Daryl Mitchell exchange a few words.

Neither man is likely to back down in that contest. Should make for great viewing.

Refresh your browser, Nic. Tim got the hook 25 minutes ago after failing to break the partnership.

Although I'm sure he'll happily take credit for my - I mean Chris Woakes' - wickets.

Oh yes, Chris Woakes has found his rhythm now.

He gets one to go like a leg break to beat Daryl Mitchell, who advances to try and negate the movement but to no avail.

It did so much he was never in danger of edging it either, mind.

Trying hard to review a new version of a syllabus for a professional IT exam, but keep being distracted by falling NZ wickets. Keep it up, Woaksey, I don't mind in the slightest!

It's short stuff from Brydon Carse to Daryl Mitchell, who has been joined in the middle by Glenn Phillips.

The England quick starts over the wicket but goes round for the last couple of balls.

Mitchell is taking no chances after that double blow in the last over and plays out a maiden.

Ben Stokes senses this is the moment for England and brings Brydon Carse back into the attack after those two quick wickets.

It's a long shot but the tourists could wrap this up tonight. The prospect of an extra day on the golf course will no doubt be spurring them on...

No hat-trick but that is a brilliant over from Chris Woakes.

Two wickets, including the massive one of Kane Williamson.

Huge for him given his struggles overseas and huge in the context of the game.

New Zealand are five down and still trail by 18 runs.

Chris Woakes is on a hat-trick!

UltraEdge confirms the faintest of edges and Tom Blundell, who clearly had no idea he got bat on that, has to go.

It's another superb ball from Woakes, this one on a perfect line and length and nipping away to find the feather behind.

England are up and about now!
