    Tough!

Ben Stokes spills as return catch as Ben Curran drills the ball back at him.

Stokes looks down at his fingertip with a pained expression to bring panic to a nation.

  2. Zim 37-2published at 12 overs

I'm keen to see more from Sam Cook today. He took 1-72 in the first innings yesterday. If I'm being harsh, he wasn't quite as accurate as I'm sure he'd have liked. People talk about his pace, that's not going to change. I want to see him be a bit more accurate today.

Even though he only bowled 20 balls, Ben Stokes was the pick of England's seamers yesterday.

Had it been Muzarabani fielding there rather than Duckett, he might have got it.

    It was a poor shot.

"Catch" yells Ben Stokes as an edge flies off Ben Curran's bat through the gully.

Had Cameron Green been there he might have got it but given it's Ben Duckett, who is about two feet shorter, he had no chance.

  8. Zim 31-2published at 10.1 overs

The first delivery swings out of the hand of Ben Stokes but Sean Williams flicks it off his pads for a single.

Ben Stokes bowled beautifully yesterday. He got the ball to swing. He looked a different league.

Oooo. Ben Stokes is going to open the bowling this morning.

Good signs for England. My colleague Stephan Shemilt laid out why in just 20 balls, against limited opposition, Stokes gave England so much to cheer yesterday.

And here come the players to decent applause.

There has been rain in Nottingham overnight and it remains gloomy.

It's a morning for the seamers.

Zimbabwe's fans were dancing all day, making noise, chanting, singing, waving flags. I'm not sure they believed they could win the match but they believed in their player. Brian Bennett really enlivened everything here. Even the England supporters loved what he did.

Zimbabwe needs more performances like that going forward. They've got 10 more Test matches this year and that was inspiring. Hopefully the rest of the team can galvanise around a player like him.

He won't get another bowl during this match unless Zimbabwe score 270 more runs but I've just spotted Zimbabwe's big quick Blessing Muzarabani deep in conversation with Stuart Broad, who is working for Sky, on the outfield.

That's lovely to see. Hopefully he's managed to glean a thing or two.

Zimbabwe's situation is pretty dire. It's going to be over some time today. How quick depends on how well the England bowlers bowl. Now it's over to the Zimbabweans to win hearts over. It's never over - they may bat for two days and force a draw, or even a victory, but it's very unlikely.

What everyone loved yesterday was Brian Bennett playing with reckless abandon from ball one. He played without fear, he played with flair, he did Bazball back to England, and I think he won the crowd over.

England were good at times, rusty at others. In terms of the bowling you've got to give someone like Sam Cook an innings. These conditions should suit his style. There's a bit of cloud, a bit of moisture, he should get it moving around.

England had a good day but there's always areas you watch and go ooof. The catching, the no ball, the fumbles in the field. I just keep going onto the next series and the series after. It wasn't quite ruthless, it wasn't quite perfect. The catching is the area I want to England to get better at.

India have also named their squad to play England.

There is no space for Mohammed Shami, who has had an injury setback.

Sai Sudharsan, the current leading run-scorer in the IPL, has been picked. He is yet to play a Test. Karun Nair, who famously scored 300 against England but was soon dropped, is back in the fold.

India Test squad: Shubman Gill (captain), Rishabh Pant (vice captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Druv Jurel , Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.

Some big news from India this morning.

Shubman Gill has been named India's new Test captain, meaning he will take charge of the team in next month's series of England.

The 25-year-old has captained India in five T20s but never in the Test format with Jasprit Bumrah having stood in for Rohit Sharma in Australia recently. Bumrah has been overlooked for the top job.

Gill, who is captain for the IPL current leaders Gujarat Titans, has scored 1,893 runs in 32 Tests but his record outside of India is mixed. It's a big call.

Eng v Zim highlights: Stokes and Bennett shine

England have not been perfect in this match. I think they'd admit them themselves in their new era of humility.

But they are still in a very dominant position. Zimbabwe resume this morning on 30-2 in their second innings, still 270 runs behind England's first-innings effort.

England will be sensing a victory today.
