The second Test at Edgbaston starts on 2 July and I, for one, cannot wait. We'll be back for that, while Saturday sees the start of England women's T20 series against India for those who can't wait that long for their cricket fix!

On a day like that, it is inevitable that there are going to periods of play where you have to absorb the pressure. They did that.

England read the situation perfectly, India didn't.

We've witnessed something special on the pressure day, the final day.

You need something remarkable to get over the line in a chase like that and Ben Duckett produced that.

I've said for a while this England team will break the world record for a successful chase in a Test match. This is another step towards that.

Perhaps one of the deciding factors in the match: England had only three single-figure scores, India had 11.

The focus of it all, there was no panic. Everyone who came out knew what they were going to do and just go on with it.

    That is an incredible run-chase.

  8. 'Chasing down totals gives you confidence as a team'published at 19:16 British Summer Time 24 June

England captain Ben Stokes speaking at the post-match presentation: "We've got some good memories here over the last few years. Awesome Test match to be part of, going to the last hour of day give and chasing a big total."

On the toss: "You don't know what's going to happen before a ball's bowled. You go with what you think give you the best chance of winning of five days. Good thing Test cricket is played over five days.

"On day one it looked like there was a bit of grass on top of it and a bit of moisture underneath it. The opposition are allowed to play well, we bowled pretty well in the first session but India played incredibly well on day one."

On Crawley-Duckett stand: "To get that far none down was pretty important for us. Zak was able to stay composed, sensing Ducky was getting off to a flier.

"There's no doubt that chasing down totals gives you confidence as a team. Having confidence in this dressing room in being able to win against quality opposition gives us confidence, but we won't always be in that situation. We've got four more games coming up, we'll have to get over the excitement for next week.

"There's been a lot of skill that has contributed to us winning this Test match but our attitude as well. Every session we turned up with the attitude that we could blow this match apart.

"If it goes to the last hour of day five it's a pretty good wicket. Josh Tongue twice did it for us, clearing up the Indian tail twice relatively cheaply was massive for us."

  9. 'A tough one to take'published at 19:13 British Summer Time 24 June

India captain Shubman Gill speaking on BBC Test Match Special: "A tough one. We had our moments on top, but England are so good and we needed to kill the game when we had the chance."

On Rishabh Pant: "He was brilliant. Our top five were brilliant. We still have a young team and a few catches didn't go our way so that's where the game slipped away.

"Going into this game we thought the wicket would offer more than when we played at Edgbaston.

"We bowled well in the first session but once the Dukes ball gets old, it is easy to score runs. We have a lot of practice sessions organised in the break."

On Jasprit Bumrah: "He is fine. We will see closer to the next Test, but he should be fine."

What happens to India from here? They are a young team but they have played some good cricket and shouldn't lose too much heart.

  12. 'Opening stand took the game away from us'published at 19:06 British Summer Time 24 June

India captain Shubman Gill: "A brilliant Test match, we had our chances in the match but a few dropped catches and out lower order didn't contribute as much as we'd like to but really proud of our effort.

"Yesterday we thought we would get up to 430 or 435 and then declare but unfortunately, our last six wickets scored about 20-25 runs, which is never a good sign.

"After their brilliant opening partnership, we did have our chances but it didn't go our way in this match."

On dropped catches: "Chances don't come easily, especially on wickets like these and we dropped quite a few catches. But we've got a young team, a learning one and hopefully we'll improve on these aspects in the next matches."

On if he could have done anything differently on day five: "Not really, the first session we bowled we were pretty spot on, we bowled pretty well. It's hard to stop runs once the ball gets old. You need to keep taking wickets to stay in the game.

"But they batted really well, after the ball got old, they took their chances and their opening partnership took the game away from us."

On Ravindra Jadeja: "He bowled brilliantly and did create some chances for us."

On Jasprit Bumrah's availability in the series: "It's more game by game. There's a good break after this Test match so once we're close to the match, we'll see."

What a day of cricket we've seen, an historic win for England after a remarkable chase.

  14. 'Maturity from everyone was incredible'published at 19:01 British Summer Time 24 June

Player of the match Ben Duckett speaking at the post-match presentation: "To get into day five and have a finish like we did is incredible. It was really important me and Zak got through last night without any wickets falling.

"We knew if we batted through this morning we'd probably get the total. Get through Jasprit Bumrah's first spell and then play our natural games.

"Showing maturity at times today from everyone was incredible. At times we were completely behind. India played superbly on day one - massive credit to our bowling side, who got the tail out in both innings, don't do that and you can add 50-60 runs in both innings.

"We do try and stay calm in different situations, when you've got Joe Root out in the middle it's fairly easy to stay calm, I always believed he was going to take us over the line.

"Jasprit Bumrah is a world-class bowler, it's very clear, in the first innings he was superb. To limit his damage was massive for us."

On facing facing Ravindra Jadeja and the reverse sweep: "It felt really difficult with a straight bat spitting out of that rough, it's a shot I go to a lot. He bowled well, to us left-handers it was tough out of those foot holes."

  16. 'We got the job done'published at 18:57 British Summer Time 24 June

England captain Ben Stokes speaking on BBC Test Match Special: "What a mint Test match. To get to day five and come home with the win is amazing and what a game to be a part of.

"There was skill from both teams, runs galore and to finish it off, a great start to the series. We know how fast this ground is and it was an awesome game of cricket. from India as well."

On whether he considered making the wrong decision at the toss: "It's a good job Test cricket is played over five days. You make a decision and you don't know what is going to happen. Both teams had a lot of luck go their way.

"Pressure was built. We did what we needed to do in the crucial moments of this game. This win here is not down to just the skill, but the attitude of this dressing room."

On Josh Tongue: "It is a skill to have that in your bowling attack. To have someone like him is great, he's fast and he has an awkward action.

    "We got the job done."

  19. 'To start this series with a 1-0 win is huge for us'published at 18:51 British Summer Time 24 June

England opener and Man of the Match Ben Duckett speaking on BBC Test Match Special about England's win: "Incredible, what a Test match! It was a huge number of runs and we have been lucky with the weather. I am lost for words.

On his opening partnership with Zak Crawley: "I had to do my job. Zak played beautifully and we knew we had to set the tone up. The boys in the middle order were calm as anything as well.

"We only had to look at the scoreboard to know that if we batted the overs, we would win the game. There were moments when I thought about stepping into another gear but the breaks in the game helped us to stay calm.

"To start this series with a 1-0 win is huge for us. It felt calm in the dressing room. To have Root out there, it's pretty easy to be calm."
