  1. SL 56-4published at 11 overs

Shreyanka Patil after drinks for India.

The required rate is up above 12 an over but Nilakshika Silva and Kavisha Dilhari content to knock the ball about for the time being.

Patil beats the outside edge of Nilakshi's bat with a peach to finish the over.

There's an air of resignation on the glum faces of the Sri Lanka players in the dugout. They know they are heading out of the World Cup.

There's the intent from Sri Lanka we were talking about.

We don't want to see Sri Lanka go into a shell. I want to see their batters express themselves on the surface.

  3. drinks break

Sri Lanka 54-4 at drinkspublished at 10 overs

Some good intent from Nilakshika Silva as Sri Lanka ty to find some momentum shortly before halfway point.

Nilakshika wallops Asha Sobhana's second ball through mid-wicket to pick up a welcome boundary.

Time for some drinks in Dubai.

  4. SL 46-4published at 9 overs

    Love some perms chat.

Sri Lanka have avoided those low-total records, anyway, after Nilakshika Silva and Kavisha Dilhari milk singles off Deepti Sharma.

  5. Permutations...published at 17:26 British Summer Time 9 October

    Firdose Moonda

    I have some permutations...

If India keep Sri Lanka to 91 or less then India's net run-rate goes ahead of Pakistan's.

If India keep Sri Lanka to 124 or less then India's net run-rate becomes positive.

If India keep Sri Lanka to 127 or less then they will take their net run-rate ahead of New Zealand's.

After lots of zooming in on this Sue Redfern gives it out.

Anushka Sanjeewani came down the pitch looking to hit over the top, but changed her mind and tried to cut the ball instead.

That fraction of a second costs her as she desperately stretches her foot back after missing the ball but Richa Ghosh is fast. Too fast.

They are going to zoom in on this and Sue Redfern [third umpire] has a difficult decision.

    We are talking millimetres.

Asha Sobhana gives it some air again with the final ball of the over and Anushka Sanjeewani dances down the pitch.

She misses and Richa Ghosh has the whipped the bails off.

Have India got number four here?

  9. SL 43-3published at 7.3 overs

Asha Sobhana, who has more than a hint of Anil Kumble about her bowling action, is thrown the ball by Harmanpreet Kaur.

A solid start from the India leggie as she gives it plenty of air attempting to draw a false stroke from the Sri Lanka batters.

  10. SL 40-3published at 7 overs

Almost another brilliant catch, this time from Shreyanka Patil at deep wicket.

Kavisha Dilhari goes across the line to Arundhati Reddy's fourth delivery and Patil sprints round and dives full length only to for her hands to fall just short of the ball.

    A super effort, that.

A little earlier, Renuka Singh was all smiles after Harshitha Samarawickrama had a bit of dash at a wide one.

Anushka Sanjeewani swung across the line without any risk.

Normally when you say Sanjeewani plays across the line it sounds dodgy, but that one was played with so much authority.

  12. SL 32-3published at 6.1 overs

    Nice from Anushka Sanjeewani.

She steps across her stumps and with strong wrists whips Arundhati Reddy's first ball to the shorter boundary at mid-wicket for four.

Having seen this innings start so poorly for Sri Lanka this is a reasonable recovery.

  14. SL 28-3published at 6 overs

Deepti Sharma with the final over of the powerplay

There's a bottom-handed biff from Kavisha Dilhari straight down the ground off Sharma's penultimate delivery but it's cut off by Shafali Verma after a chase and Sri Lanka have to settle for three.

  15. SL 21-3published at 5 overs

Anushka Sanjeewani and Kavisha Dilhari able to calm things down a little by rotating the strike as Renuka Thakur bounds in with menace on her face.

This was the big wicket for India as Chamari Athapaththu was caught at slip.

India are putting themselves in a brilliant position in this group, their net run-rate is going to shoot up!

  17. SL 15-3published at 4 overs

    I've done some research.

Sri Lanka were bowled out for 46 by South Africa in August 2022 during the Commonwealth Games. Those matches were full T20 internationals.

That number is also the lowest total made in a World Cup - by Bangladesh against West Indies in November 2018.

A few vital runs from Anushka Sanjeewani's bat off the bowling of Shreyanka Patil, including Sri Lanka's first boundary via a streaky sweep missed by Richa Ghosh.

  18. SL 6-3published at 3 overs

    This is worth a look.

Substitute fielder Radha Yadav proves her worth as she takes a brilliant catch in the opening over.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2.2 overs

    Harshitha c Ghosh b Singh 3 (SL 6-3)

*Starts looking up Sri Lanka's lowest totals in T20 internationals.

Left-hander Harshitha Samarawickrama has a big airy waft at a delivery wide outside off stump from Renuka Singh.

Harshitha manages to get the faintest of edges on it and Richa Ghosh stood back had all the time in the world to snaffle the catch.

Sri Lanka are three down for not very many.

    A classic off-spin dismissal.

Already we are 11 balls into Sri Lanka's reply and you feel the game is up.
