Jemimah Rodrigues was looking to keep that on the ground.

She was starting to look dangerous. However, India still have some big hitters.

And Kavisha Dilhari breathes a sigh of relief!

Ama Kanchana gets a crucial breakthrough as Jemimah Rodrigues throws away such a positive start. It's short and wide, but Jemimah just guides it into the hands of Udeshika Prabodhani at backward point.

Two wickets in two balls gave Sri Lanka a sniff to get back in the game after India's good start.

That catch would've changed things even more.

  4. 6 runs

    Ind 126-2published at 16 overs

Of course, Harmanpreet Kaur heaves the next ball for four and then ends the over with a glorious slog sweep for her first six.

That is what you call rubbing salt into the wound.

  5. dropped catch

    Oh no!

The trend of dropped catches in this tournament continues as Kavisha Dilhari puts down a sitter at deep square.

Sri Lanka's captain Chamari Athapaththu looks disgusted and so does Jemimah Rodrigues for giving the chance away in the first place. A filthy short ball is clubbed straight to Dilhari, she barely has to move, but it pops out of her hands and Jemimah gets a second chance.

India need to keep going. They will want to emulate what South Africa did today.

  7. Ind 113-2published at 15 overs

    Jemimah Rodrigues has started beautifully.

A short ball from Chamari Athapaththu is pulled to the ropes and she looks in the mood this evening.

  8. Potential semi-final switchpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 9 October

England, of course, could potentially play India in the semi-finals if they win Group B and India finish second in Group A.

Interestingly, if India did get through as runners-up there would be a tweak to the date and venue of their semi-final.

At the moment B1 v A2 is due to be played in Sharjah on Sunday, 18 October.

However, according to the wording of section 16.10 of the International Cricket Council (ICC) playing regulations for the tournament there's special provision to amend the schedule.

It states: "If India qualifies for the semi-finals, they will play in semi-final 1 which is scheduled to be played in Dubai on the 17 October."

  9. Ind 107-2published at 14 overs

Two more singles are ticked off to finish Inoka Ranaweera's over.

Sri Lanka are quite far behind the cut-off time here, which is astonishing considering how much spin they've bowled. They've got to make up that time to avoid having to bring a fielder in for the final over.

  10. Not outpublished at 13.4 overs

It was indeed bat first. A faint edge saves the India captain.

    Now then!

Harmanpreet Kaur goes for the sweep this time, and Sri Lanka think it might've struck the pad first.

    Let's see...

    That's a beautiful shot.

Jemimah Rodrigues down on one knee hits the sweep. She isn't a big girl, but she has so much power.

  13. Ind 103-2published at 13.2 overs

    Wonderful shot from Jemimah Rodrigues.

She is such a busy, proactive player and displays that intent with her first boundary, sweeping firmly in front of square for four.

  14. Ind 98-2published at 13 overs

Jemimah Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur are in the middle, tasked with the rebuild.

India were cruising, the openers were batting serenely but all of a sudden, things look trickier.

    Two quick wickets.

I don't know if the run out broke Shafali Verma's concentration.

We now have two batters on nought and they've not faced a ball between them!

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 12.5 overs

    Verma c Gunaratne b Athapaththu 43 (Ind 98-2)

    Two in two!

This is soft. Shafali Verma looks tired, and loosely chips the ball up to cover where Vishmi Gunaratne takes a simple catch.

Two new batters at the crease now for India, and Sri Lanka are back in this.

    That's close!

By the barest of margins Smriti Mandhana is out! Upon reaching her half-century she has to go.

Smriti run out (Kanchana) 50 (Ind 98-1)

    Fifty and out!

Smriti Mandhana drills the ball to cover and sets off, but a quick pick-up and throw from Ama Kanchana is retrieved by Chamari Athapaththu and she whips the bails off quickly.

The batter looks gutted but gives Shafali Verma a punch on the gloves as if to say "don't worry, you carry on."

It's a great shot from Smriti Mandhana.

She brings up her half-century and she has looked good today.
