    Ind 98-0

After disappointing scores of 12 and seven in her first two innings of the World Cup, Smriti Mandhana has responded in style with a 36-ball half-century to lay a brilliant platform for India.

    Class.

  2. Ind 93-0published at 12 overs

Ama Kanchana gets out of that over pretty well in the end.

But you do not want to be bowling nine-ball overs in this heat!

When a bowler cannot get their line and length, it's painful to watch - I feel for them.

  4. Ind 90-0published at 11.2 overs

Shafali Verma is caught at long-on from the free hit, with just the single conceded which will be a big relief for Sri Lanka.

But Ama Kanchana is struggling, bowling two wides in the over plus the no-ball so far.

  5. Ind 86-0published at 11.1 overs

Oh! Ama Kanchana is into the attack and her first ball almost brings a wicket, with Shafali Verma's pull shot just evading the fielder at short fine leg.

But it is a front foot no-ball anyway, so it wouldn't have counted and now Shafali Verma has a free hit.

    Watch out in the stands...

  6. Ind 83-0published at 11 overs

Good over after drinks from Kavisha Dilhari, just five runs from it as the batters pick out the fielders that are well-placed on the ropes.

Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur are the next two in for India, and understandably they look relaxed and smiling in the dugout.

These two batters, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana have not had to do too much running as they've found the boundary.

Sri Lanka are not able to break the partnership and it means India have built the perfect platform to get 170.

    Mandhana 41, Verma 35

It's taken a few matches for them to find their stride, but India's openers have looked back to their best tonight.

At the halfway mark, India have got a platform to go big and really swing their net run-rate back into their favour.

    India are looking good tonight.

Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma didn't come out all guns blazing, but as these two face more balls you feel they're getting into their stride.

Chamari Athapaththu has rescued Sri Lanka on so many occasions and they need a strong performance from her today.

Smriti Mandhana keeps targeting her favoured area over mid-off, with two boundaries saved by Inoshi Fernando's brilliant fielding before she finds the ropes with the third attempt, expertly manoeuvring the ball a little straighter to pick the gap.

    Four more!

Smriti Mandhana gives herself some room, backing away to leg stump, and drives Udeshika Prabodhani sweetly over cover.

These two are both racing along now and Sri Lanka are struggling to stop them.

A twitchy start, but Smriti Mandhana is on her way now.

She skips down the pitch and slams the last ball of Inoka Ranaweera's over for the first six of the evening. Such a classy player, a joy to watch when she gets going.

The powerplay has been a good one for India, but most importantly there's been no wickets lost.

  17. Ind 41-0published at 6 overs

    Here she goes!

Smriti Mandhana breaks the shackles with her trademark shot, striking the ball firmly straight down the ground for her first boundary. In response, Sugandika Kumari drops it short and Mandhana pulls it round the corner for another.

It's been India's powerplay, and these will be ominous signs for Sri Lanka.

That's more of what we saw in 2020 from Shafali Verma.

Back then she had a strike-rate of 149.7 which is good especially for an opener, but last year it dropped to 113.2.

She has increased it this year to 127 so it is getting better.

  19. Ind 30-0published at 5 overs

Inoshi Fernando heaps the pressure on to Shafali Verma with three dot balls, and the opener starts to get a little twitchy.

She responds perfectly though with another lofted drive over mid-off. Lovely.

  20. Ind 24-0published at 4 overs

A very strange but successful shot from Shafali Verma brings her second boundary, with a one-legged helicopter-like flick off her legs for a one-bounce four.

She's always had all the shots and the swagger since bursting on to the international scene as a teenager, but is now learning to build an innings and improve her discipline. It'll be interesting to see how she approaches this knock with Smriti Mandhana struggling at the other end.
