Joe Root has faced just five balls of Adil Rashid in this format of the game, managing just one run with a dismissal against his name. Superchargers will be desperate for a breakthrough here.

I was surprised that Imad Wasim was not brought on a little bit earlier. That will bring some confidence for Superchargers but there is not enough pressure being built to put the result in doubt.

    Bowled 'im!

Tom Banton was still feeling his hip so had clearly decided he wanted to try and get even more of a move on.

He goes for the big sweep off Imad Wasim, misses and the ball clatters into the stumps.

This is interesting to bring an off-spinner Dan Lawrence in to two right handers. I am surprised there is no slip in place because it is turning.

Unorthodox is a good word for Dan's run-up.

Reverse sweep from Joe Root - but he doesn't mean to get it that fine!

The England star very nearly drags it onto his own stumps as the ball comes off the under-edge.

It runs away to the boundary nonetheless. Four runs.

Tom Banton then tries to hit Dan Lawrence out of Nottingham, makes no kind of connection whatsoever and it trickles into the leg side for a single.

No problem for the opener last ball, mind. Long hop from Lawrence and it's swatted away for four.

    Top stuff from Tom Banton.

He picks the googly from Adil Rashid, shifting onto the back foot quickly and pulling through mid-wicket for four.

Beaten all ends up next delivery. A classic leg-spinner that rips past the bat. Just four from Rashid's first five balls.

If Adil Rashid can get this tight and create some pressure, we could see a different game. He normally bowls it a bit flatter to start while he gets his fingers warm.

Trent Rockets haven't even got out of first gear.

  8. Rockets 40-0published at 75 balls left

    Target 125

Tom Banton ends the powerplay with a boundary!

Drilled just wide of mid-off for four more.

And it looks like Samit Patel's money is safe because here comes Adil Rashid.

That is why he is so strong. If you bowl straight to Joe Root in the powerplay, he can whack it to either side.

I will lose a lot of money if Adil Rashid does not bowl this next set.

  10. 6 runs

Rockets 33-0published at 78 balls left

That should help Joe Root get going.

He picks the ball up from just outside off and whips it just over the vacant deep mid-wicket boundary for the first six of the innings.

That will make Tom Banton feel better. Mohammad Amir is in conversations about trying to change the field.

Superchargers have kept it quiet but they do need wickets.

Wide yorker attempted by Matthew Potts but Tom Banton reaches for it and guides the ball down to deep third for four.

A sore hip isn't going to stop him playing that shot.

No batter has scored more runs at a strike rate better than Tom Banton's 275 while executing the conventional and reverse sweep against spinners in men's T20s/The Hundred since the start of 2022.

He has scored 303 runs at an average of 60.6 with these shots in this timeframe.

Tom Banton is getting a bit of treatment from the physio after being hit on the hip by Matthew Potts a few minutes back.

He looks in real pain but he is going to carry on for now.

  15. Rockets 23-0published at 80 balls left

    Target 125

Joe Root goes for the reverse scoop to try and get himself going.

He's put the shot away in Test cricket for the most part and clearly he's out of practice with it because he misses the ball completely.

It's another very good five from Mohammad Amir, just two runs from it.

Five balls left in the powerplay but Tom Banton looks to have an issue with his hip...

  16. Rockets 21-0published at 85 balls left

    Target 125

Scooped fine and it's four more for Tom Banton.

Slower ball from Matthew Potts but the Rockets opener waits for it and gets the ball fine of short fine leg with ease.

Quick single to end the set and Banton would have been gone with a direct hit.

I had a feeling Tom Banton would get the sweeps out. He used the pace of Imad Wasim and all he had to do was beat the short 45 fielder.

Superchargers need to bring Adil Rashid on sooner rather than later because this game could get away from them.

The lowest first innings total to be successfully defended at Trent Bridge in the men's Hundred is 129 by Welsh Fire in 2024. Rockets fell short by four runs in that chase.

Bowling spin to Joe Root in the powerplay is tough work because he plays it so well.

The reverse is his go-to shot and I am surprised that Northern Superchargers haven't closed that gap off in the field.

  20. Rockets 13-0published at 90 balls left

    Target 125

Conventional sweep to end the five balls from Imad Wasim.

Sliding down leg and Tom Banton helps it on its way, behind square for four more.
