The pictures we're seeing suggests it is as dark over Headingley as it has been all day but, evidently, the rain has stopped.

The plastic sheeting covering the run-ups has been removed. The main covers remain in place, though.

Good comeback by Josh Tongue after a disappointing day one. He has been very attacking this morning, switching to around the wicket, troubled the left-handers and bowled full and at the stumps to clean up the tail.

Rain could save England here. Might be a road but in these conditions Bumrah could have had 5 before tea.

The latest weather update comes from BBC Sport's Matthew Henry, who is currently elsewhere in the greater Leeds area.

He informs me that it is "chucking it down".

The good news is that it doesn't seem quite so bad at Headingley. Albeit the covers remain in place for now.

This is frustrating. It was all ready to go. Jasprit Bumrah had his run-up lined and ready.

Does that set the record for shortest innings before a rain delay? I think the batters only made it about 6ft inside the boundary before being sent back!

The rain is heavy enough that the groundstaff are bringing out the plastic sheeting to cover the bowlers' run-ups.

A passing shower? Perhaps. We'll just have to wait and see, I'm afraid.

Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley make it a few steps onto the outfield before being sent back as the umpires wave on the covers.

India aren't best pleased but they're going to have to trudge off.

England now well clear of the draw after that flurry of wickets but India remain big favourites according to WinViz.

Conditions certainly seem to be in the tourists' favour as well but it was England's choice to bowl first so they can't complain about that.

You look at Ben Stokes, he will be delighted. But now the game starts.

The India seamers will be used to bowling on these surfaces so they will fancy themselves. Jasprit Bumrah is world-class.

This is not the time you want to be facing Jasprit Bumrah. Not in these conditions.

I'm sat here thinking India are short here, we can easily get a lead here.

    Dan, High Wycombe

Come on England fans. If somebody told us this morning that we would have India 9 down and under 500 the way Gill was batting we would have ripped their arm out of their socket! Get behind the lads!!

    Sam - Rotherham

I know it’s going against the doom tide but that was an excellent session and a bit from England. A big score from India but not insurmountable if the batters get stuck in.

Rain was falling as the England players celebrated that wicket and we did see the covers being pushed onto the outfield.

But it's the heavy roller rather than the covers on the cut strip at the moment.

The India bowlers are out already, keen to get going in favourable conditions for the seamers.

These wickets will be giving Josh Tongue a load of confidence, he didn't have a great day yesterday.

England will be delighted with this last hour of play, but they will have to play really well with the bat.

Leg stump out of the ground!

Full, straight and straight through Prasidh Krishna as he has a swipe.

A fourth wicket for Josh Tongue and England have battled back well, India looked like getting well in excess of 500 at one stage this morning.

That ball came back sharply onto the stumps, there wasn't loads of movement. But what a cluster of wickets.

This is a great turnaround from the England side, but let's be honest conditions have changed massively.
