Thanks Sam - it certainly should be interesting.

Right then, having seen England work themselves back into contention in that elongated afternoon session, it's time for me to hand back to Mike Peter.

    A fascinating evening session awaits.

It has been a brilliant session of cricket. Bumrah had a brilliant spell at the beginning but England have countered back.

Sometimes the relationship between a coach and a new captain takes time to build and this may be the case here for India.

Even Ravindra Jadeja can't quite get through the over quicker enough to allow India another. That's tea.

A very good session for England either side of the rain delay. They mopped up the India tail and then battled through a very tricky opening few overs with Jasprit Bumrah charging in.

He removed Zak Crawley in the first over but since then Ben Duckett, who has reached his half-century, and Ollie Pope have shared an unbroken stand of 103.

The hosts still trail by 364 so work to be done after tea despite a good start.

To Neil at 14:54 who said we would be lucky to get to 100 I hope is eating humble pie. Well played to Pope and Duckett.

Ollie Pope gets in behind the last ball of the over and defends solidly.

A pair of singles from Jasprit Bumrah's over.

Normally I'd say the next over will be the last before tea but Ravindra Jadeja rattles through them so quickly, I would not rule out India sneaking in one more from Bumrah.

At most three overs before tea... and Jasprit Bumrah is back.

Fifty brought up in style. What a shot, he got inside the line and swept it along the ground to the boundary.

England are on the charge and showing why they are such a dangerous team.

This is the 18th time Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett have batted together in Test cricket and the 12th time they have surpassed a 50 partnership.

    Eng 105-1

Polite applause from the Headingley crowd as Ben Duckett tucks the ball around the corner for a single that brings up the 100 for England.

That turns to cheers a few balls later as Duckett sweeps firmly behind square for four to bring up a 68-ball fifty, his 14th in Tests.

Another valuable knock from the England opener.

India feel a little bit shell shocked and flat. Bumrah could have had three or four at the beginning of his spell but suddenly they are leaking runs here and there.

It does feel that this is running away from Gill.

    Pope 46, Duckett 47

Mohammed Siraj's over is extended as a very wide delivery is called wide by the umpire... but the decision is changed and a no-ball is given instead.

Andy Zaltzman on TMS points out that that means it counts as a ball faced for Ollie Pope, which feels a bit harsh.

Mohammed Siraj's impressive spell will continue into a sixth over.

In his first spell, Mohammed Siraj looked for swing and proved to be expensive. However, after switching ends, he focused on pace over swing and improved his economy rate.

    Spell 1

    • Economy - 7.6
    • False shot% - 27%
    • Average speed - 137 kph

    Spell 2

Jadeja is a clever bowler. He will vary his pace and change his angles.

England have got through the Bumrah spell at the beginning so they need to make the most of it now.

  17. Eng 96-1published at 20 overs

Long hop from Ravindra Jadeja and Ollie Pope cuts it powerfully behind square for four to start the over.

Great response from the spinner, though. Perfect length and then turn and bounce to beat Pope. We've not seen many deliveries do that.

A single ends the over with a little more than 15 minutes until the tea break.

    Michael Vaughan

The problem for Shubman Gill now is too many easy singles. This is where England have become better, when the field is spread.

They have got to milk it now and hit the ball to the gaps.

  19. Eng 91-1published at 19 overs

    Beauty!

Things have got a bit flat for India and Mohammed Siraj is trying to get India going. He calls for more energy then backs it up with a brilliant delivery.

Round the wicket, pitching just outside off and holding its line to beat Ben Duckett. The England man smiles and gives an approving nod.

Another one snakes past the edge to end the over, a little wider this time. Good from Siraj.

Since Bumrah has come out of the attack, there has been no serious questions asked of the batters. If England keep him to a wicket or two, they could win the series.
