    Notts 333 & 104-6 (lead by 234) v Hants 196

Kyle Abbott (8-3-24-2) and Sonny Baker (5-2-8-1) are not making things easy for the Notts middle order.

But the batting pair of Jack Haynes and Liam Patterson-White are in the happy position of knowing that every run is making Hampshire's task significantly harder.

With a lead already stretched to 241 the home side will feel they may built defences pretty high already. Another 50 could be impregnable.

  2. Postpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time

    Essex 123 v Yorks 216 & 99-1

The shadows are lengthening at Chelmsford and so is Yorkshire's lead, now approaching 200.

Essex have been switching from seam to spin without success - their only wicket so far that of Fin Bean, who was caught at mid-on off Noah Thain.

Four overs left for them to try and pick up another.

  3. Postpublished at 44 overs

    Kent 124-7 v Glamorgan 665-5 dec

We've lost count of the number of edges to third man Chris Benjamin has managed in this innings. But he ends James Harris' latest over with a far more authentic square drive for four and is now 59 not out.

  4. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 23.4 overs

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 69-1

Beau Webster isn't looking particularly threatening in this spell but any Australia Test player should not be taken lightly.

No chance of that as Surrey look to negotiate their way to the close without further loss.

Ryan Patel has faced 15 balls without scoring but the 16th disappears over square leg for a maximum.

  5. Postpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time

    Northants 238 & 114-5 v Lancs 276

This has been a very uncharacteristic innings from Saif Zaib, but it's probably what Northamptonshire needed.

The left-hander has taken an hour and a quarter to reach double figures, facing 50 balls in that time. But he's still at the crease, which is what matters most to his side.

Lewis McManus is alongside Zaib now, with Northants leading by 76.

  6. Postpublished at 17:43 British Summer Time

    Essex 123 v Yorks 216 & 87-1

Matt Critchley took four wickets in Yorkshire's first innings, so no reason why Essex wouldn't bring him on to try and prise out a few more this time around.

Five dot balls in the leg-spinner's first over - but James Wharton takes on the final delivery and deposits it high into the stand at the Sir Alastair Cook End.

That stroke triples Wharton's score to nine, with Adam Lyth alongside him on 59.

Eight overs left tonight and Yorkshire lead by 180.

  7. 'A good breakthrough for Warwickshire'published at 17:40 British Summer Time

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 58-1

Rory Burns doesn't look too happy about it, but the finger goes up fairly quickly. He did take a little step across the stumps.

Ed Barnard continues his good day and that's a good breakthrough for Warwickshire.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 40.3 overs

    Stewart b Harris 4 (Kent 109-7 v Glamorgan 549-9 dec)

Grant Stewart tries to cut a ball from James Harris but only succeeds in chopping it into his stumps. That's three wickets for Harris now.

Chris Benjamin reached 50 off 83 balls in the next over by pushing Asitha Fernando into the covers for a single.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time

    Keogh c Harris b Williams 28 (Northants 238 & 107-5 v Lancs 276)

Rob Keogh has done all the hard work, but that's a poor shot.

Will Williams drops it short on leg stump and Keogh scoops it rather awkwardly to midwicket, where Marcus Harris completes the catch.

Northamptonshire lead by 69, but they have only five second-innings wickets left.

Burns lbw Barnard 27 (Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 58-1)

    Ed BarnardImage source, Rex

    There it is.

Ed Barnard comes in from round the wicket, Rory Burns plays across the line and he is leg-before.

The Surrey skipper isn't too thrilled by the decision but has to walk the long walk.

  11. Postpublished at 20.3 overs

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 58-0

When you consider that Dan Lawrence and Cameron Steel bowled a combined 56 overs in Warwickshire's first innings, you do wonder who is going to be the spin option for the home side. Presumably Rob Yates.

All-rounders Beau Webster and Ed Barnard are now operating in tandem as the Bears strive for a breakthrough. Rory Burns dabs the latter down to third man for four.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time

    Clark lbw b Taylor 10 (Sussex 284 & 18-3 v Worcs 180)

Angled in and there is no doubt about that from batsman, cordon, bowler, or, most importantly, umpire.

Tom Taylor has 2-7 to go with his five-for in the first innings, and Tom Clark is the third Sussex batsman on his way.

  13. Postpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time

    Essex 123 v Yorks 216 & 79-1

Simon Harmer - still wicketless in this game - returns for what you'd assume will be his final spell of the day.

Harmer's rhythmic and looping action almost brings him a maiden, with Adam Lyth unruffled by the first five balls then rocking onto the back foot to guide the sixth away for a single.

Lyth has 58, with James Wharton on two and Yorkshire lead by 172.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time

Leaning lbw Fernando 37 (Kent 104-6 v Glamorgan 549-9 dec)

Asitha Fernando jags one back off the pitch and strikes the knee roll of Jack Leaning's rear pad. That's a stonewall lbw, surely? Yes it is, umpire Sue Redfern confirms.

  15. wicket

    James c Dawson b Baker 4 (Notts 333 & 84-6 v Hants 196)

Sonny Baker takes a wicketImage source, Rex Features

Lyndon James attempt to pull a short ball from Sonny Baker through midwicket but gets it too far down the blade and mistimes it to mid on where Liam Dawson takes the catch.

It was a good grab, low to his right and reduces Notts to six down.

Freddie McCann's first innings century is looking more important with every passing wicket as is the 221 lead.

  16. 100 up for Kentpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time

    Kent 100-5 v Glamorgan 549-9 dec

Chris Benjamin does love that third man area. A boundary off James Harris takes Kent's total past 100, which seemed a remote prospect when they were 23-5 in the 15th over.

  17. 50 partnership for Surreypublished at 17 overs

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 51-0

Dom Sibley nudges Ethan Bamber for a couple to third man and posts a 50 partnership with Rory Burns by so doing. Bamber has 0-14 from nine overs, a fine spell on an unresponsive wicket.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time

    Bean c Critchley b Thain 19 (Essex 123 v Yorks 216 & 72-1)

Out of nowhere, Noah Thain makes the breakthrough for Essex.

Yorkshire's openers have looked largely untroubled, but Fin Bean tries to pull a short ball from Thain and it sails up gently towards Matt Critchley at mid-off.

He makes no mistake and Bean departs, having shared an opening stand with Adam Lyth that was almost identical to their first-innings effort of 71.

Don't forget how that Yorkshire innings unfolded once the openers had gone...

  19. 'Can you believe it?'published at 17:14 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 & 0-2 v Worcs 180

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Daniel Hughes is absolutely furious with himself as he swishes his bat in frustration. Sussex have lost two wickets in two balls and both openers are back in the pavilion.

It was a complete error of judgement by Hughes. They had a good day until about five minutes ago. Can you believe it?

  20. Postpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time

    Northants 238 & 93-4 v Lancs 276

It'd be interesting to know what kind of fourth-innings target Lancashire would be content to chase.

At the moment, Rob Keogh and Saif Zaib are toughing it out and have pushed their side's overall lead up to 55.

If they could put another 100 or so on that, we could be in for a fascinating finish tomorrow.
