  1. Postpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time

    Kent 50-5 v Glamorgan 549-9 dec

They are back out in the middle at Canterbury and Timm van der Gugten has the ball in his hand. He has 3-17 from nine overs so far.

Kent need a big partnership between Jack Leaning and Chris Benjamin - in fact they need a huge one.

  2. Malik 'a stylish and composed batter'published at 16:30 British Summer Time

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 9-0

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

Zen Malik scored his maiden first-class century in his second match for Warwickshire to complete quite a journey.

An England Under-19 cricketer, he had trails for 12 counties without persuading any to give him an opportunity.

Finally at the age of 27 he got his break after impressing with the South Asian Cricket Academy. He scored a big century for Glamorgan in a second XI match against Warwickshire which prompted them to offer him a contract.

He was unable to impress in his two One-Day cup matches last season, scoring one in each, but after being drafted into the red-ball team at the last moment for the game against Yorkshire because of an injury to Sam Hain, he has shown himself to be a stylish and composed batter.

His 49 not out at Headingley saw the Bears home in a low-scoring game and now in much more favourable conditions, he’s done SACA and his former minor county Staffordshire proud.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time

    Sales lbw b Balderson 27 (Northants 238 & 65-4 v Lancs 276)

Just what the Lancashire doctor ordered in the first over after tea...

George Balderson pitches the ball up and James Sales is plumb lbw moving across his stumps.

Northamptonshire under pressure now - and so is new batter Saif Zaib, who comes in on a pair.

  4. Postpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time

    Essex 123 v Yorks 216 & 32-0

Adam Lyth finally registers Yorkshire's first runs of the post-tea session, latching onto a loose ball from Jamie Porter and gently steering it past mid-on to the rope.

We've seen periods in this game when a dearth of runs has created pressure on the batting side, but Lyth and Fin Bean can afford to pick their moments now with so much time left in the game and Yorkshire already 125 runs in front.

  5. Postpublished at 3 overs

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 3-0

Rory Burns and Dom Sibley are an experienced opening pair and they're not going to play at anything they don't have to, so the onus on Warwickshire is to keep it tight.

Burns drives at the final ball of Ethan Bamber's second over and a thick inside edge brings him a single.

  6. wicket

Tea at Trent Bridgepublished at 16:20 British Summer Time

    Clarke c Brown b Wheal 11 (Notts 333 & 50-3 v Hants 196)

Joe Clarke's poor start to the season continues with an 11 to add to his 6 in the first innings and Hants have a boost prior to tea.

On an individual level this has been Kyle Abbott's session with 67 and two wickets and on the same metric this has arguably been his match with five in the first innings.

But he finds himself at tea on day two on the wrong side of the balance of power with his side facing a 187 deficit.

Given we have seen 13 wickets in two sessions today this does not look a pitch that is going to offer much fourth day cricket and, as such, that lead looks highly significant.

Hants can be pleased with their start but must wish they could start the match again from halfway.

  7. 'Runs for those willing to be patient'published at 16:16 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 v Worcestershire 162-8 - tea

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

A very good session for Sussex, taking five wickets, but then a fightback from Worcestershire with skipper Brett D’Oliveira and Tom Taylor adding an unbroken 51 for the ninth wicket

Fynn Hudson-Prentice has been the pick of the Sussex bowling since lunch, taking three of the wickets to fall including two in an over, but the highlight was a stunning diving catch at mid-wicket by debutant James Hayes to dismiss Fateh Singh.

The pitch is offering assistance to the seamers but for those batters willing to be patient and play straight there are runs to be made.

  8. Postpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time

    Essex 123 v Yorks 216 & 28-0

Tea is being cleared away at Chelmsford and Jamie Porter gets the action under way again with the first over of the evening session.

Fin Bean plays out a maiden and Yorkshire's lead remains at 121.

  9. Postpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 0-0

No surprisingly, Warwickshire declared at tea.

So Surrey have seven sessions to avoid losing a game which is being played on the most benign of surfaces.

Ethan Bamber takes the new ball for the Bears. He starts with a maiden to Rory Burns.

  10. Tea at Canterburypublished at 16:12 British Summer Time

    Kent 50-5 v Glamorgan 549-9 dec

Kent reach 50 in the final over before tea as Jack Leaning picks up three runs off Zain ul-Hassan.

But the sandwiches may not be all that appetising after an afternoon which saw Glamorgan add 51 to their 498-8 at lunch before declaring.

Ben Kellaway finished on 181 not out and the Glamorgan bowlers then tore through Ken's top order, a total of reversal of what had happened over the first four sessions of play.

Leaning has 20 at tea, with Chris Benjamin on 11.

  11. Tea at Hovepublished at 16:10 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 v Worcs 162-8 (trail by 122 runs)

Honours are just about even at the end of that session with Sussex having the best of the first hour taking five wickets and Worcs battling back hard in the second hour.

Tom Taylor and Brett D'Oliveira have put on 51 for the ninth wicket and demonstrated that there is reward for application.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice, with 4-32 has done most of the damage for the hosts who will be frustrated they are still out there (or at least are going back out there after they have monstered the tea offering).

  12. Tea at Northamptonpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time

    Northants 238 & 64-3 v Lancs 276

Northamptonshire could have done without losing Luke Procter just before the interval - they were probably approaching something close to parity if the captain had kept his wicket.

New batter Rob Keogh is yet to get off the mark, while James Sales has 27 and the home side lead by 26. Despite their recovery with the ball earlier, it's still advantage Lancashire.

  13. 50 runs

50 up for Taylor and D'Oliveirapublished at 16:02 British Summer Time

    Sussex 284 Worcs 162-8

The half century partnership between Tom Taylor and Brett D'Oliveira has come in 92 balls and a shade over an hour.

And it has been an hour of application and graft which shows that there are runs and time at the crease in this wicket if you are prepared to get your head down.

Worcs still trail by 122 but the deficit was 173 when they came together which could have been a match-winning advantage for their hosts.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time

    Procter c Hurst b Phillip 23 (Northants 238 & 61-3 v Lancs 276)

As we said, Anderson Phillip is getting the ball to talk - and that one spoke loud and clear, short of a length but rearing up to take the inside edge of Luke Procter.

Lancashire needed that wicket to break the stand of 41 between Procter and James Sales and it's very timely for the visitors, arriving with just two overs until tea.

  15. Postpublished at 15:57 British Summer Time

    Northants 238 & 60-2 v Lancs 276

James Sales has begun to accelerate and he's overtaken Luke Procter now, steering Anderson Phillip just wide of the slips for four.

Phillip is getting the odd ball to talk here, but Sales has 24 to his captain's 23 as Northamptonshire focus on building their small lead.

  16. Postpublished at 22.4 overs

    Kent 39-5 v Glamorgan 549-9 dec

No wicket for the last eight overs, Kent must be so relieved about that.

Chris Benjamin (10) and Jack Leaning (15) are at the crease after Ekansh Singh's dismissal left them 23-5 in the 15th.

  17. 'A century warmly greeted by the crowd'published at 15:54 British Summer Time

    Warks 665-5 v Surrey - tea

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

Zen Malik removes his helmet and gets a hug from Ed Barnard. He has scored a century which is warmly greeted by the crowd.

What a story and what a performance. What a credit to Staffordshire and the South Asian Cricket Academy and well done to Warwickshire for picking him up.

  18. Tea at Edgbastonpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time

    Warwickshire 665-5 v Surrey

Spinner Dan Lawrence tries to surprise Zen Malik with a bouncer but it is called a no-ball on height and the Warwickshire batter defends the final delivery as we reach tea.

What an afternoon for the Bears. They have added 167 runs without loss and Malik and Ed Barnard have put on 215 for the sixth wicket.

Malik is 105 not out and Barnard has 177 and the total is Warwickshire's third highest in first-class cricket.

The declaration cannot be far away, but Surrey's bowlers must be wishing they will never, ever see a wicket like this again in their careers.

  19. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time

    Essex 123 v Yorks 216 & 28-0

Adam Lyth and Fin Bean make it through to the interval unscathed and they've stretched Yorkshire's overall lead to 121.

Bean has just picked up his first boundary of the innings, arrowing a superbly-timed drive through the covers off Kasun Rajitha and he has seven, with Lyth on 21.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time

    Slater c Albert b Abbott 13 (Notts 333 & 26-2 v Hants 196)

Ben Slater becomes Kyle Abbott's second victim, edging to second slip where Toby Albert takes a good catch low to his right.

This game is travelling and that was hte 12th wicket we have seen today.

For all that Notts will be disappointed by losing their two openers they will look warmly at a lead of 163 given how much the ball is doing.
